- A simple ribbon waist stay can add support to a heavy skirt making the bodice appear smooth and stay in place. Plus it alleviate strain on the zipper at the waist. A great, simple couture technique that can be added to any dress!

Whelp end so much thanks for the help
in the 50th all dresses had a waist-ribbon inside und was closed befor the zipper was closed. waist-ribbon was strong, had force to hold the measure of the waistline without forcing zipper to much
Exactly what a waist stay does. Well done 👍🏻
Thank you
Thank you....
Thank you for the video! It’s great! But may I ask, if we attach the waist stay on the lining or lining and actual dress? Please help to demystify. Thank you!
Thank you so much!!! 😊😊😊 This video means a lot to me; I was researching how to make this and out of coincidence you appeared. 😊🤗👏 if it's possible could you show us how to make a long lace circle skirt? Once again thank you so much. 💗💖
N C you needing a train??? If so make panels or make a circle skirt with back 5-6 in longer. Hope this helps. Happy sewing.
Do you go through all layers of the dress with the stitching or just the inside layers?
Tes Lord as many layers as possible except the very outer. Usually the seam allowance is there to get some good hold.
@@ThreadoraGowns can you still do this if you don't have a seam allowance at the waist? Like if you have a drop waist or Empire dress?
Does anyone know what the spiral shape above the presser foot is and the function?
RoRo T I think you’re referring to the thread tension dial.
Hi! Hope you could see my comment.
Can I ask- won’t placing the waist stay 1/4” far from the zipper will be too tight for the client since you’re subtracting 1/2” total off her waistline?
Thanks for the comment! You are right, it is made shorter to eliminate stress on the zipper. It makes for a smoother outward appearance too.
@@ThreadoraGowns but won’t the waist stay be too tight since you subtracted a total of 1/2”? Or is 38” not her actual waistline?
Is the ribbon stretchy?
No it’s a grosgrain ribbon, petersham has a bit of give but you want the stay to be the size of your waist. Elastic is used sometimes for comfort but I like the look of ribbon.
Is the waist stay sewn to just the lining or through all of the layers of the dress?
I like to sew it to the seam allowance of the waist under the lining.
