If you have to pick....SONY a7iv or the Fujifilm XH2? ALSO happy holidays!
I already have A74 and thinking to buy XH2 for portraits and family vacations
If only Sony colors were remotely as good as Fujiâs, all would be well. Sony autofocus, Fuji color, Canon/Nikon ergonomics, Olympus/OM stabilization/weather sealing, put all that in a blender and Iâd trade at least one kidney for it.
cue song * "all i want is the perfect camera...."đ”đ¶
Love the feel of canonâs in the hand but when I open my eyes and look at it, itâs hideous; that design is just wonky. Iâll take Nikon Ergos over Canons.
Sony incrementally improving their colors. A7IV was bump up and A7RV fixed even more with IR/AI AWB. Still not the best, but closer.
Fuji addressing their AF with stacked sensor, faster LM lens and new subject AF algorithm. Still not the best, but closer.
Canon the sleeping giant waking up. R5 released 2yrs ago still better than most.
OM not sure what they doing lol.
Colors would be a hell of a lot easier to fix in post no?
LMAO....this video made my morning. Great take on the subject, mixed with some hard, cold humor and truth. Your commentary is uplifting and a reality check in the same breath. Happy Holidays....looking forward to your videos in 2023.

hahaha thank you Jerred, honestly me posting this much is not sustainable... I'm doing this to challenging myself to see if i can do it.. :D
@@Iamtongue I hear you man. Just let me know if you need support dude, because I might be asking for the same! :)
honestly you are my favourite source for fuji info, I'm starting a new photography business and your insights have been invaluable. nice one
dawwe thank you!! I appreciate it!
Awesome video and love the humor!!!
thank you sir! i appreciate it
Awesome fuckin' video man. This is so well said - I think all of us have been tempted and lusted by the FF Sony bodies / lenses, but it's hard to make the jump when it's so pricy (I mean the GM lenses are going to set you back big time) and the editing workflow is much different. Love how objective you were here for the majority of the video - good stuff man. And as someone who uses both systems, you know what you're talking about.
But, in the end, your Fujifilm shots just give me that "reason" and "feeling". LOVE IT DUDE!
thanks brother!
Spot on video bro!
thank you my brother :D
Thx man...nice review
Thanks for the support!
Been using the A7iv for stills of people running in cloudy weather. Got some sharp ones, but only 30%. Subject detection worked great, but many misfocused, especially on the hair for women with long hair.
Pricewise you could have compared the A7iv with the Xh2s, which I'm looking at now. Unfortunately, there are no f2 zooms in the Fuji lineup to match the f2.8 Sony, especially the great 70-200 GM II.
Couldnât agree more on the slow shutter speed look, when it works those shots are better than anything
I do this all the time and it's the reason why I don't find it challenging like some ppl say it is :D
Itâs all just personal experience, what would you prioritize? Going through the pros and cons. whichever one checks the most boxes for you is the best one to get. Itâs essentially just about whichever one will help you the most express your art.
you are correct.
Nice video, thanks for posting. I like fuji colors, but in low light ISO seems to be going up very quickly. I am amateur hybrid dude narrowed down to Fuji xs20, Sony A7 iv and future Nikon Zf. I want to have compact system. Is it possible to adjust straight out of camera colors in Sony A7 iv to bring them closer to Fuji or Nikon?
From my experience itâs hard to bring Sony files to look close to Fuji.
Yes ish, there is an profile called Colbat image you can buy for LR. It has giving me close enough canon colors for my sony files that color is not an issue anymore. Other solution is Sony A7RV which really improved the colors. I like fuji colors too but if i am going to have only one camera than its must be full frame and have good autofocus and wide lens selection, so therefor Sony it is. Also you gotta remember that your images will be less sharp on Fuji Film crop sensor. Sony FF is much shaper.
You hit Faboys (of ANY brand) hard in this vid! đ€Łđđ€Łđđ€Łđ You were right eeeevery time! Great vid young man! Happy Holidays đđđŸ
thanks jose! Fanboyism needs to tone it down a bit before I fully switch over to ....sony

Awesome comparisonâŠbeen shooting professionally for 4 years Sony now and just ordered a xh2âŠi agree, even with latest sonys the colourscience of skintones (mostly weddings and fimily shooter) is a LOT of work sometimes. The detail & reliability has been absolutely amazing thoâŠbut those fuji colours really intrigue me⊠cant wait to try them against each other
Thanks for sharing your experience! It's always interesting to hear how different camera brands handle color science and skintones. Excited for you to try out the Fuji colors!
Would you take x-H2 to a professional video job? OR you would still choose Sony for that and use Fuji for personal projects only?
Probably the xh2 for sure. Iâll live with the random pulses.
Thanks for the comparison! So Sony is sharper with less megapixels? Is there any point on having a 40mp sensor then?
Yup I would say so. Iâll do an image quality test with the a7iv 50mm gmaster vs the xh2 & 33mm f1.4 after the new year so you guys can compare
full frame will always produce sharper images than crop sensor cameras...pixel pitch and size matters. I own both the xt5, a74 and a7r3 all my Sony full frame cameras blow out of the water the fuji in terms of detail.
Thank you for comparison and I just love Fuji color so much and very soulful vintage vibe. I choose XH2s for myself. Love it. I love you.
love you
Why not XH2
moved from sony to fujifilm last month, and i never regret it, i sold all my sony gears and i'm very happy with my xt4.
the skin tone color is so amazing, and overall fujifilm color is amazing for me.
i hope my next camera will be XH2, haha need to save a money for it
ohh why'd you switch?
Switched from what Sony ?
Even the old a7iii is better than any Fuji film camera out other than their medium frame..
@@Moresco24 a7c, not really,
I prefer Fujifilm, i'm happy with my xt4, make my workflow faster too, because i don't need to much time to edit it. Haha
@@Moresco24 depends what you're talking about. Only thing sony is better at is autofocusing / tracking
Should I buy xh2 or go for sony camera
Agree with everything you said. Sony for reliability especially the AF. But Fuji colors, especially the skin tones, is just something else. Thereâs something in the image that makes it unique and pleasing to look at. You can tweak Sony colors, but you canât tweak skin tones that much IMO.
Itâs kinda rough trying to get skin tones looking right .. and I tried doing a lot of things to it đ
Does the Sony A7iv overheats while shooting pics or only in video mode?
Iâve never had overheating issues
how's the rolling shutter on the fuji?
on the XH2 it's wobbly
8k video I use to add motion in the edit⊠sometimes itâs to crop a messy composition but most of the time itâs just for a creative edit in post
exavtly
What do you mean full frame look? Isn't the same 3D or separation shooting at 1.2 on a ASPC than it is 1.8 on a FF?
Ya itâs just shallowier I canât explain it what it is. But thereâs a certain look when shooting with a full frame camera that you canât replicate fully on an Apsc.
@@Iamtongue I said that because I see no difference between each other in your photos. Actually, see more "pop" the fuji ones.
Got the XH2 and the film simulations is the main reason I like it. In certain situations the 40 mega pickles are pretty cool but I wouldnât buy it just for that. I had an XH1 with 16 mega pickles and I loved it. I think a reason for its existence is to get the 8k spec for video. I like Sony for one MAJOR reason, the lens selection is amazing and would be my second choice easily.
Sonys wide selection is nuts! It's crazy that they build it up and now they can start making some funky lenses...
Thought the X-H1 was 24 mega pickles.
All this talk about pickles is making me hungry
Great review. Both cameras are fantastic for different reasons. Oddly I do like sony color, but I feel the fuji has a much more filmic look, while sony has a more contemporary look. I've shot commercial work with the xh2, and it's just a hell of a camera. The sony is no slouch in image quality either. Personally I think these cameras really compliment each other. From a spec standpoint sony definitely comes in behind, but from real world use... it's so much more a tie.
I have shot in 8k. Personally as a filmmaker, I'm dying to see how that displays on a festival screen. But my commercial work has been shot at 4k prores in xh2. So again real world use. I do wish sony had 120fps 4k.
When I bought my first Fujifilm camera, my intention was to learn Fujifilm and sell my Sony cameras/lens to totally switch. I ended up keeping both systems. Same here, I use Sony A7iv for a more professional work, and XH2 for daily casual shooting.
yay to having both systems :D
This is everyoneâs answer. Shouldnât be this way for the money weâre spending. Fuji needs to realize their gear isnât professional and price it that way or give is professional results like Sony
I have had xh2 couple of years, was curious about Sony so picked up an A7iv a few days back, not got any sony glass yet just a cheapo 50mm 1.8 (ÂŁ159 GB)âŠâŠ so cannot really say which i prefer yetâŠâŠâŠ donât know if Iâll keep both or sell one range
The 50mm f1.8 is probably the worst lens from Sony haha
@@Iamtongue gets me shooting though straight away, cannot afford the money for other lenses right now
understanable as long as it gets you off your butt and outside ot take photos :D
@@Iamtongue yes true Sir saddly its pithing down rain today here
Stupid question, but do both cameras come with lenses? I see pictures with and without lenses on websites selling these. Sorry for being so green.
there is a "body only" version and the one with a specific lens as a "kit"
@@Iamtongue thank you
Should I go for xh2 or buy a7iv
I think xh2 is far better than Sony
Which camera would you prefer for vlogging+ video shooting
It's hard to say... you can't go wrong with either. I do like the Fujifilm color's more so I'm more inclined to choose the fuji. Also apsc lens means it's smaller, and cheaper making it easier to vlog with.
I'm biased in favor of Fuji so I'm recusing myself from this poll. :)
Have you been using 160mp Pixel Shift? I think it's fun to see the true performance of lenses.
I haven't. I honestly don't see a point, i don't do anything that requires pixel shift. I will perhaps try it soon.
â@@Iamtongue I think the sole point of pixel shift is to prove naysayers wrong about 40mp being too much for APS-C. đ
Btw, I did have some minor artifact errors when using a mini tripod on a kitchen table, and I'm not sure if it's because of minor vibrations, or if it's because the camera wasn't fully settled on the squishy foam on the tripod plate. đ€ When I tried a sturdy coffee table without a tripod I had no errors. Something to look out for.
Fuji color is why I stay, the straight out of camera jpeg look is beautiful
fuji colour the goat
So all around versatile multi purpose camera, with maybe an emphasis on family portrait photography- what would you recommend? The XH2, XH2s, or the a7iv?
All 3 are really good cameras for family portraits. Sony if you want reliable AF, Fuji if you love good colors and skin tones.
Which takes better pics XH2 or XH2s?
Both
Why wouldnât you use xh2 for work?
Is the 33mpx really better than 40mpx?
Itâs months that iâm trying to decide and still canât đ
Sony a7iv if you want the 90-95% hit rate , the best autofocus, fujifilm xh2 if you want the best colors but 70-75% autofocus hit rate.
@@Iamtongue other than casual stuff as street or pets, i usually do products, music photos, cars photos and now getting into sports/motorsport and everything with an XT30 do you think is worth upgrade with a switch to sony or stick with fuji with xh2. Colours are for real something amazing though.
if you haven't seen any issue using your xt30 for those use cases. Chances are you're going to be happy with the XH2 because it's a supercharged camera.@@Tony.Visual
Separation is not only related to sensor size, it's a combination of lens aperture and sensor size. APS C lenses should have one stop more to match the full frame ones. The Fuji 200 f2 is similar to a 300 f2.8 FF, but there's no 35 f0.85 to match Ă 50 f 1.2 yet.
Also a matter of the lensâ distance relative to the subject.
But yeah if we can make f0.95-f1.0 the new apsc standard weâd be in a better position as far as apsc DOF compared to FF
End of the day, does your client knows the difference between a F/1.2 or F/2.8?
When you shoot pro sports, most of the shots are gonna be at a high ISO anyways.
@@zKMotion not always about clients. Not everyone even has clients, but having that extra stop is useful regardless of clients knowing the difference or not, I wouldnât want to to do evening, or night photography with an f2.8 lens and having to introduce even more noise to my photo than I already have to do with something like a 1.8 on apsc. As far as high iso use in sports, with an extra stop of light you can use a less of that iso, itâs a win win for everyone.
@@Eyeofkamau Regardless, there's always gonna be a catch 22 whenever it comes to FF and Super35.
As long as client pays the bills, whichever works for me.
@@zKMotion regardless, for majority of us, there a lot more to photography than that lol
Iâm definitely team Fuji. Still shooting on an x-s10. Upgrading to an xh2 for Xmas. Really looked at Sony tho. Hard to switch systems đ
Ya man youâre telling me đ„Čđ
Xh-2 mainly for their color, burst speed is plenty enough for wildlife & birds etc-etc
is the tracking on the xh2 good enough for wildlife and birds though?
Yeah, Fujifilm should have focused less on stealing the ISO dial off and more on the AF.
HAHA
I feel like most hate I see with people talking negative about fuji comes down to user error. They blame the camera for their mistakes. I tell everyone that I didnât choose fuji for their autofocus, I chose fuji for their color science and image quality
something ppl don't understand unless they try a fuji :P
If AF reliability/feature is of most importance then hands down A7IV. For everything else X-H2, being a year newer, has better specs and lower price. Fuji lens ecosystem while more limited is also cheaper on the wallet. Sony has more options, better premium lens, but bleeds your wallet. Personally, I went with A7RV, since it has the specs of my imaginary future X-H3 made available today for a hefty price premium.
Think Fuji could maybe bring touch tracking via firmware but bit doubtful. What will they sacrifice performance wise to have it? AF box in the viewfinder already lags behind the subject even though maybe the actual AF isn't. Seems to get the price point low they skimped a bit on the processor.
Fuji manager previously said X-T4 eye/subject AF was slower due to xtrans processor limits. X-T5/H2/H2s only brought 2x boost. In comparison Sony Bionz processor in older models already handled subject AF better than Fuji, but A7IV/A7RV they increased it 8x further. Probably what allows them to do multi subject face tracking etc. Ironically still don't let you process RAW in-camera.
I am still using FHD and I am fine with that.
i feel you
For India Sony a7iv is not a good video camera due to heating issues. In summer temp rises upto 48 degree Celsius. But I love its autofocus , its mind boggling how far the AF has come
OMG 48 degrees?!
Just now got back from handling an a7iv in local store, it felt crappy cheapo compared to my xh2âŠâŠ. I was all set to jump to Sony but deffo not now I am sticking with Fuji my friend
hey you win some you lose some haha
@@Iamtongue hey hi I cannot figure it the A7iv felt lightweight ladt week, yesterday I held an rv and it felt better, I checked specs and the iv is listed as heavierâŠâŠ long story short i bought an A7iv today plus a 50mm f1.8 lens (just the ÂŁ159 lens) to grt me goingâŠâŠ gonna pick up a 24-105 next month, question now is âsell or keep my fuji kitâ?????
Just sold my X-H2 for a A7RV⊠absolutely hating the color of the images so far đ
LOL that's the only thing man. AF is amazing but colors sucks!
