Fun fact: The U.S. census was responsible for the creation of one of the first computers. Taking the census was starting to take almost more than 10 years, which is a problem for something that's constitutionally supposed to happen every 10 years, so they had a machine built that'd help them with censusing. I'm a little vague on the details.

@@dawn8293 it's not a thing in Denmark. Our voting system is different. We mostly vote for parties, not individual. We can, but that vote also goes to the party. We also vote in clearly defined regions. That doesn't change depending on who ever is in charge. I'm also pretty sure the state automatically knows all that information about the population. Furthermore, the only place I have to define my ethnicity is whenever I fill out American questionnaires. I'd never be asked about that here. I'm not saying it's a non-issue, but most statistics is based on whether you're ethnic-Danish verses not. And that's based on how long your family history goes back and not the colour of your skin. As far as I know anyways. I'm not an expert 😅
Dawn Harper There are some countries that have a census by collecting new data like the US. There are some countries that don’t have a census or haven’t in a long time because of war or other instability. And there are some countries that combine administrative data that the government already has to create a census without having to collect new data, which means the population isn’t directly involved and might not even know it’s happening. Denmark was the first to use administrative data rather than collecting new data, and it switched to that method in, I think, 1970. Many more countries have switched to using administrative data since then.
I think there are also countries that just don’t want a census even though there’s no big instability but I don’t know much about them. For example, I can’t find anything about Vatican City ever having a census but I also can’t find a reason why they don’t have one. Maybe it’s just that censuses are recommended by the UN every 10 years and Vatican City isn’t part of the UN.
Great video. I do wish you had explicitly mentioned that non-citizens should participate too, that it’s not illegal to do so, etc.
I worked in the last census. Super interesting and crazy how many people it employs. Very excited that we'll be able to fill out the questionnaire online this year!

Took till 1:23 before you first said what nation this is census is for. Yes, we can figure it out, but that’s pretty blatantly US-centric and can be off-putting for non-Americans
