Someone living a quiet life in natural beauty is doing a great service to all humanity and to the earth. The earth is grateful, we’re all grateful to glimpse this, if only fleetingly but to hold in the heart. ❤

I lived on Sanday, one of the Northern Orkney isles for many years and now live in the Highlands. Surprisingly, we had better access to facilities on the island than we do here regarding shops, swimming pool, gym etc. I still miss living on the island even with occasional 120 mph winds and the longest darkest winters with horizontal sleet driving into your face. Life is ruled by the weather and shortages of coal, heating oil and petrol can be caused by the tankers not getting out when the boats don’t run. Relationships can be tricky too as you are all living in a very small community that changes its dynamics as people come in and move out. But, the sight of snow laden clouds streaming above the ocean and the sound of the haunting song of the seals will never leave me.

I understand where you're coming from ... sometimes in small communities the facilities can be more generous and available than in larger communities. I lived in the Falkland Islands and that was definitely my experience. Also, you say about the extremities of weather and the occasional shortages of supplies ... but, those edges are where we feel the most excitement, where we feel the ease and tension of relationships with our neighbours. And, then you mention the almost calming and seductive sensations of being with nature and that, somehow, eases everything. A great post, thank you x

Arran is so precise and beautiful and so full of history, I do miss its wildness, storms and the people. would love to return one day. there is so much to say about the Island, when I returned for a holiday I felt so at ease and at home, It was so hard to leave. one day I hope to return for good where my family remains.

Such beautiful scenery I had to watch it twice! I would love to live in such a place, or the highlands of Scotland; unfortunately, my husband has only agreed to live as far north as the Snowdonia area of Wales. More nature, less humans, is always a happier place for me… books, dogs, a garden… (good vegan food); really doesn’t get any better than that. :)

Wales has some beautiful places and I'm sorry to admit that as an ex-Southerner, I was blithely ignorant to just how stunning it is having never been there before and just thinking it would be all sheep and hills and nothing else! 😁

I grew up on a farm in the Snowy Mountains of Australia so I also feel that my childhood of freedom, nature and farm life made me who I am. That is why I love rambling, hiking and observing nature so much and have to be outside every day. There were some downsides, yes, and that did mean going to a larger city for high school and university and being away for long periods of time. But the connection is so strong and the land itself speaks to my heart in a way that never fails to calm or heal me, even at age 50 when I return. Winter was not fun but my Mum turfed us outside anyway, just had more layers on! Another great video Molly.

Hi Molly 😃 I've just recently subbed to your channel as I'm really a fan of these 'slow living' videos after stumbling across The Cottage Fairy's channel and falling in love with these beautifully innate and relaxing-style vlogs. It might not come as a total shocker to you if I tell you that I am also an introvert and as someone who once lived in a very over-populated (and not very nice) part of South East Essex for many years, now that I live in Shropshire, I feel like I'm truly 'spoilt' because where I am is the perfect mixture of rural and townie. I have to say that I'd like to possibly visit where you film in these videos as I've never been to Scotland (or Ireland) but as a keen walker, I know there are some stunning locations to visit!
I hope you're having a lovely Bank Holiday weekend and keep up the great content 🙂👌

Also, as an enthusiast for “small space living” you mentioned about self-build, buying land etc, it would be so interesting to watch you interview someone who has gone down that route in recent times and embraced self sufficiency, sustainablility and made it work for them financially.

I was lucky enough to live on Arran a few years ago, in Kilmory. Almost every day after work i'd be either down on the beach with the dogs or up walking through the forest paths past Glenashdale and down to the Coffee Pot in Whiting Bay. Beautiful in the summer months, but often quiet in the winter (not that it bothered me :) ). The last time I visited I was down on the beach at Kildonan and I met a stranger who knew the guy I used to work for, he said I could call in at his place anytime - if he wasn't in I was told to just make myself at home, there'd be plenty of tea to drink and books to read, he said. That still makes me smile, how people can be so welcoming. I could sit and talk all day about this place to anyone :) I often find myself daydreaming about it when my mind switches off and goes into screen saver mode. Thank you for sharing this video!

In fact, I’ve just returned from a beautiful island, Prince Edward Island, which is thousands of miles across the Atlantic from where you are. And it definitely is the kind of place I would live. I know what you mean about the busyness of summer and tourists. I live in a place that’s popular with tourists and it can be difficult sometimes. And then I think sometimes I’m a tourist imposing my presence on quiet places too. Beautiful video. Would love to see it in winter when you go home for Christmas. I just stumbled across your channel... and I'd love to one day move to one of the Hebrides islands. I visit them often enough, so the next step would be to move. But, realistically, I'm not too sure how to go about it. Land may be cheaper on the more remote islands, but it would be really hard to keep up a steady income (especially during winter). On the inner Hebrides, there's a fairly steady source of income with tourist trade... but you need to win the lotto to be able to afford even a tiny house on those islands. So, for now, it's a dream. And hopefully I'll figure out the practicalities one day 😁

Such a different way of life. I can't begin to imagine what it would be like to grow up living on island. I'm definitely not a big city person but have always lived in suburbs of mid-size towns. I think I'd love to live on a island but as I'm getting older (51) and have fibromylgia having access to good health care if pretty important. I also enjoy the theatre and concerts so like being to able to get to them when I want. I currently live about 1.5 hours south of Sydney so it's not too far to drive, but I still live in a moderate size town. ie. we have no real traffic to speak of :-).

I’ve lived on islands for short time periods. I believe island living changes people mostly due to the geographical, social, and sometimes sustainable limitations. I’d suggest that anyone interested in living on an island try it first. Maybe on vacations. Maybe in different seasons. Try to get a feel for it before packing up and moving everything there. Also, being a water and watercraft person could strengthen an island lifestyle.
