Followed your advice and invested in an inverter rather than a UPS. And from my experience over the past 1.5 years, you are 100% correct. I bought an inverter with dual battery, which was quiet expensive in the beginning. But was completely worth it, as I could do my work even during the power cuts.

UPS + Voltage Stabilizer are the saviour, I can easily use my PC even if the voltage is below 140V from the main supply.

I am using an Pentium processor with a wahiyat quality psu without ups and when there is an electricity failure it shut down obviously it will 😅 but I restart it just asks for an startup repair nothing else.
Well in certain scenarios you DO NEED AN UPS. Some of us have generators in our apartments so we generally don't have Inverter at home. However the switchover time of generator is enough to shut down your pc. So you do need a ups for that 1-2 sec switchover time. Having a big ass inverter and battery is not viable in such scenario

The main benefit of ups is understood during any kind of updates. Think you are updating your bios and the light goes of any kind of interruption can cause Post system boot failure though motherboard now a days come with dual bios. Same for windows update interruption in it can cause corruption of registry files and even more damage to your operating system. I think UPS is mainly required for specific reason if you don't have a powerful inverter
Why does it matter tho?
Even if you have a UPS and there's an update going on, you wont be able to finish it anyways. UPS dont let u run PC for hours, just a few minutes. Heavy windows updates require a while and I doubt a UPS would work
The transfer time/switchover time of typical home inverters is over 13-16ms ms ,while a good ups is around 4 ms.
So no,home inverters cant replace a good ups.

I mean windows might not boot at all if power fails while windows is installing some critical updates.
And second thing, why does the system run disk check after improper shutdown ?
I am one of those who had literally no knowledge about computer just 2 years ago. And now that i know all of these things i cringe so hard at the shopkeepers and technicians. i have had 2 ups with 2 times replaced batteries and a stabilizer for my fridge as well as my a/c. **face palms hard**

UPS is like a warning when city power is out it will just quickly switch to battery and will give you a warning that the power is out so you can save whatever work you are doing so it don't just go off.
Also you can properly shut down the system
Instead of buying costly power supply, we can buy ups from reputable brand which regulates voltage and also cuts off power in case of surge. Also gives 5 minutes backup which you can use to hybernate computer

The basic thumb rule for calculating the UPS VA : VA = 1.6 X Watts ( TOTAL LOAD) . For eg : for 360 Watts, VA = 1.6 X 360 = 576 VA approx (600 VA). So, EndlessDesire is quite prompt ! 2. The runtime output depends upon the load applied , for this particular product : 50 Watts = 47Min , 100 Watts = 23 min, 200 Watts = 9 min & 300 Watts = 4 min😁😁😁😁

Your PSU will take 850 watts only when you push it to extreme and in this case you never can! PSU delivers as much power at a given time as your PC components are using!

Surges and spikes are real problems though. However, mobos nowadays some with better power delivery mechanism. Also, UPS does not save you from bad earthing.
1. Ensure you have good earthing in your house.
2. Lay your inverter delivery system properly.
3. Use 80+ rated psu at least.
4. An additional surge protection layer might not be bad idea but keep it replacing often. Calculate ROI accordingly.

Its not just about autosave. If you are working with Autodesk Maya or some other 3d software , and suddenly there is a power cut your files can get corrupted. And it actually happens. You definitely need a backup whether it is inverter or ups of the required wattage.

i bought microtek ups for 1950 and its worth it. because i do important task and have to save task(btw someapp automatically save the task but still). and in my area light only goes for 2-3 mins or for hours(when there is some damage in line). my ups gives around 15-20 mins of backup and my specs are(i5 6500 and rx 470)

Bilkul sahi kaha. Waise bhi India mai jyadatar gharo mai Inverter UPS mode mai hi rehta hai most of the time. UPS mode mai already voltage stabilize rehti hai.
Computer seedha mains mai chalao , koi voltage fluctuations ka prob nahi rahega agar inverter UPS mai rahega.
Hard disk ki normal shelf life 5-6 yr hi rehti hai , iske baad bad sectors badne lagte hain. Isse jyada use bhi nahi karni chhaiye.

jab light jaati hai aur jab aati hai dono time problem ho sakti hai. ups ekdum hi jaroori nai hai aisa nai hai. ups aur inverter main 12000 rs se jayada ka farak ho sakta hai (invertor 15000 ka maan le to aur ups 3 ka) jo sab afford nai kar sakte hai. to ups computer ko sahi se band karne ka time de deta hai. data copy ho raha ho to usko cancel karne ka time deta hai aur pendrive remove karne ka time deta hai. ye video main jayada content nai hai bas invertor ke baare main bata rahe hai IG bhai jo sabke paas nai hai aur agar hai bhi to bhi ho sakta hai purana ho jaisa IG bhai ne bola ki 5 saal se jo aa rahe hi unka cutoff time kam hota hai. ho sakta hai ki aap society main rehete ho jaha central power backup chalta ho jo 5 se 10 second leta hai on hone main. mera sirf ye kehena hai ki scam nai hai par har kisi ko jaroorat nai hoti hai. aur IG bhai hume knowledge hai yaar asia to mat bolo :D

UPS saved me several times during work. And without UPS I lost my work progresses several times, even after autosave was turned on. UPS is a must have thing in the areas with issues of powercut.
So, UPS is one of the primary requirements for people like me. Inverter does not help, because switching time is not as fast as a UPS. It is a highly generalised idea that UPS is not necessary. Again INVERTER NEVER HELPS!

Cut off voltage in Inverter is much less... like 150V.. but in UPS, its much sensitive, like 200V.. UPS can be a boon if you suffer from fluctuations.
I had a question. When my laptop shuts down at 0% charge, during turning it on, sometimes it shows the option to repair windows. Does that have any thing to worry about the sudden shutdowns?
Yes I think it normally you shut down after turning all apps off but when your laptop shuts down suddenly your apps gets crashed and windows tries to reload your pages that's why it says repair windows

Firstly i used my old pc for 5 years without ups.. than new gaming pc also without ups ( on inverter ).. recently started facing a problem that there is a cut of electricity for a second the way ig told it used to happen in old inverter...so using ups just to prevent the 1 second cut...else inverter op..can run my pc for hours on normal usage (never did long time gaming on inverter)

Modern invertors are mostly sine wave...When invertor convert dc to ac square wave is generated which is not good at all for electronic components...so the square wave is separated into the harmonic components and lcr filter circuit is used to convert squre wave into sine wave..
