Absolutely! I feel this way too. I frame this as developing accent flexibility. People do better when they can embrace their identity and make choices. I like the focus on doing that's great.
Oh hi i was almost forgetting you😄. This is the first time i hear about the term 'Accent reduction' and it sounded strange to me at first and then i had to google it to see what it is😄. You are right. Instead of focusing on reducing my accent i always focus on how to improve my American English accent if that is what you mean. Anyway nice to see you back and wishing you happy, healthy, wealthy new year🥳
Yes, that’s exactly what I mean!! Great to hear:-) Thanks so much for your kind wishes- wishing you and your loved ones the very best in 2020 as well!!
Hi Victoria! Amazing video. You are so right! The way we frame this process is key for success. We have to build self confidence to develop that skill as any other and as you mentioned, each language has their own cadence and stress. You are a wonderful teacher. Happy Holidays and I watch your videos quite often. You are a gem 👏👏👏💫🤩
Hello Patricia!!! Thanks so much for your kind words, it’s great to hear from you!! Very happy holidays to you and your family as well- I hope you’re doing great 😊😊😊
I feel like Accent Reduction is could be a specific thing. Like for (say) a British accent, I could accent reduce to remove my regional accent to be less specific. But for learning a language and the correct accent in it then that'd be Accent Building or Accent Modification or *even better* Accent Training. (Or even lump it in with Voice Training in general). All of these would be better for precisely the reasons why you specified in the video.
Hi Victoria, I totally agree with your opinions about Accent Reduction; thank you for sharing them with us! By the way, I also learned a brand-new word: "A touch pedantic" (6:39) :-) Keep up the great work!!! Best, Albert
Hi Victoria, Yes, it has been a while since I last commented on your videos. Good memory. Can you explain to me about the "touch" in "touch pedantic"? Thanks, Albert
@@albertmo1722 Hi Albert! I have a strangely good memory for names, actually.. my husband even teases me about it. In this case, touch means a tiny bit:)
Hi Victoria, Thank you for explaining "touch" to me. How funny! I had never used it in my English conversations. Now that I know of this usage, I shall start using "touch". :-) Best, Albert from SF
Words do matter! As I commented on the the most recent Merriam-Webster video, no one understood this better than George Orwell. "Accent mastery" definitely is a better name for what your clients are engaged in.
@@AmericanAccentMastery Can you believe that we survived 2012? The rumors abounded that a great cataclysm was going to occur. Now we have 2020 looming!
Hi! Love your take on this topic. I teach ESL and I'm interested in specializing in "accent mastery." Unfortunately, I'm not finding a clear path to achieve this. Any ideas? TIA.
It really depends on so many variables! But if you put in 48 very focused hours, you'll make excellent progress! Check out this video if you want more guidance- czcams.com/video/sLxlPZcaLyY/video.html Good luck!

@@AmericanAccentMastery I'm not agree with this , because to become fluent is important reduce the accent to sound more natural and not mechanized .
By the way, I'd love to hear you use Polish vowels. That would be fun!
That’s an interesting idea, thanks Gregory!!

@@AmericanAccentMastery Thanks. It is not that easy for a non-native speaker :-)
Very good job!! Keep it up😊😊
Thanks so much 😊😊

Would this be grammatically correct if a non-native speaker said it? I hope I am not being rude or glib.
Hi there! You’re not being rude at all.. It’s fine to phrase it that way:-)
I was trying the same and a native american dude asked me " are you trying to escape your accent" and i said heck NO lol
Merry Christmas.
Thanks! Merry Christmas to you too!!
I hate 2020
