I used to make sure to dance with my 8 yr old when she was a baby all the way until she was 5..and the song I always sang in her ear as I held her was BRIGHTSIDE and she would sing the la la la part w me. I know the song is sad..but it's beautiful and very catchy. It's still Melody&MY song together I miss when she wasn't too cool to dance w daddy..before she was 8 going on 18 yelling I hate you to me when she doesn't get her way. Well...I just walked in her room playing the song while she was busy on her tablet playin Roblox..which she hardly let's anyone interrupt or stop her from doing.. she dropped the tablet & jumped into my arms n started singing along. She is heavy as heck now & this 40 yr old just ha shoulder surgery..so I was hurting..but also I felt so much love at that moment. No matter what she says..moments like that prove that She don't hate me...she will always be the lil angel I used to hold tight and sing to. I guess I said all this when I could've just said I love Nate..I love this song..and I absolutely love being a father.

Here's my interpretation (I say that because the video doesn't show you everything that's going on except for when he's at the karaoke thingy): He's in a failing marriage and coming to the said karaoke thing and singing this song (which is also about a failing relationship) is his only way to cope with the pain.
