In 2019, I was obese, pre-diabetic, my joints hurt, my feet hurt, and I had no energy. Then I came across a video that asked, "Why do we eat 3 meals a day?", it may have been one of your videos. The video introduced me to Intermittent Fasting. Given that I felt so bad, I figured I should try it. I chose a 20/4 Fasting/Meal schedule, which was a challenge at first, but after just 3 days I realized it was working. After 2 weeks I felt a whole lot better I had more energy and much of the pain was gone. In addition, I was losing weight. It took me over a year to return to normal weight and restore my health. My Doctor was shocked when she saw me.

The problem I find with piling too much food into a short time is food combining issues. Fruit seems best left alone, for me. 12 Hour fast is easy for me. 18 a challenge but I eat whole plant based so that helps. Keto seems to work for a lot of people too, so kudos.

People who eat breakfast do way better in health studies. Petter Attia wrote a paper explaining why he thinks that skipping breakfast is likely okay and that the reason why breakfast eaters do better is likely due to co-founding factors (e.g., lower smoking rates, more exercise, drinking less). Howver, in this Japan study, they adjusted for several cofounding factors: age, sex, history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus Body mass index ,Smoking status . Alcohol status , Education level, Exercise level. Sleep duration, Work - day shift, night shift, or shift work. After adjusting for confounding factors, skipping breakfast significantly increased the risk of mortality from circulatory diseases [hazard ratio (HR) = 1.42] and all causes (HR = 1.43) in men and all causes mortality (HR = 1.34) in women

    Erratum in: Yonago Acta Med. 2019 Dec 28;
In addition, in a different 2011 study in Japan, participants who did not have breakfast were four times more at the risk of developing dementia. There was not a lot cofounding variable adjustment in this study though See : Findings from a 6-year follow up(Paper & Abstract September 17th), Japanese Journal of Human Sciences of Health-Social Services, 2011, Volume 18, Issue 1, Pages 102-106, Released on J-STAGE

No difference in weight loss between people who eat 3-6 meals compared to fasting individuals. So picky the form of restriction that is best for you. And stop listing to people who say dumb things like if you don't fast you risk overeating.

We all fast every night, then we break the fast {breakfast, called that for a reason}. Talk about divisive, now you can stress out the people who eat three meals a day, and wonder why they leave debated comments, lol. Fasting also lowers blood sugar, which releases stress hormones like cortisol, adrenaline, etc., one of the reasons people wake up in the middles of the night and can't get back to sleep, their blood sugars go down and cortisol goes up. There are better ways to get the benefits of fasting, without fasting.

There is a whole movement called "Instinctive Eating" that agrees with you.
The reason most people can't do that is because most people's instincts lie. We can't tell the difference between feeling hungry and feeling sad/scared.
Every day as I am driving to my factory job, I get hit with a wave of fatigue, and I feel a strong instinct that the only way I will have energy to work is if I stop and eat lots of meat and cheese.
      This instinct is lying.

Well, eating 3-6 meals per day gave me just, fluctuation of energy (insulin), wasting time preparing and eating meals, being hungry the whole day (especially the 6 meals per day), not being able to eat junk food at all or else I would gain fat, mentally lethargic, constipation, acne etc.. now with my kinda Warrior Intermittent Fasting (Fasting during the day, and eating only at night for about 3 hours), I can eat food that I would never being able to eat following a normal diet, not that I eat just junk food, I eat very balanced, healthy and unhealthy at the same time, no more constipation, acne, energy fluctuations, full productivity during the whole day, and so on. So at least for me, Night IF is the solution, not 3-6 meals, and no Early IF either. Just follow what works for you. Best

Eating Fewer Than 3 Meals Per Day Can Shorten Life Span, Study Says
In a study of 24,011 US adults over 40, only having one meal a day was linked to a higher mortality risk in general. Skipping breakfast was associated with a greater risk of dying from a cardiovascular disease (CVD), while skipping lunch or dinner was associated with a greater risk of all-cause mortality, including a rise in CVD risk.
There was even a problem for those who ate all three meals but had them too close together. Eating two adjacent meals within 4.5 hours of each other was also shown to be linked to increased all-cause death risk.

Gout!!! Hear me out. I’ve been fasting for 3 years now. Lost 25 pounds the first 4 months and that’s it. I lift so I gained about 10 back. A year and I half into it I got hit with gout. I’ve had 5 flare ups in the year and a half since and this is with fasting 18-20 hours daily and low carb. I don’t drink alcohol. What gives??? I read that fasting increases uric acid in the blood. I’m not overweight and don’t have other health issues.

    Some feedback:
I didn't understand lot of words from this video (for example insulin, bmi and more).
I'm not into analyzing my eating habbits on deeper level, just wondering if it's normal to eat 2 meals per day. So perhaps your followers are more familiar with the words (or just are Native English speakers perhaps?).
Anyways I think you could consider editing in small info boxes with definition for more advanced words in your future videos.

Hello. I just started studying fasting a few moths ago. I started some intermittent intermittent : D lol fasting in march. 2nd week of April I did my 1st langer fast of 44 hours. Last week I did my longest ever at 67 1/2 hours. I wanted to keep going but was feeling so faint and fizzy. I live alone and did not want to pass out, perhaps hit my head etc, so I broke my fast gently. No issues and felt great after each fast but would like to learn what I need to prevent light headedness alongside fluids...drank herbal teas ie parsely, dill after researching nutrition facts. Ok....the issue concerning me most is -during my 2nd fast- my eyesight became much more blurred than usual and I actually had to increase to a stronger strength of "cheater" glasses for reading and even walking ( daily activities ). I googled and learned a fast can effect eyesight and I think I read that it does not always return to normal ???!!! :o Do you have videos on fasting and effects on eyesight ? Thank you

However- had protein, blood, creatine, albumin in in urine and parathyroid up. Vitamin D has been super low for years ie 47 one time. Thinking I need to invest in trace minerals or electrolytes for fasting though. I am very sendentary due to no people to do things with-would love to exercise if had someone to get out with but also live in nw ont in canada and been 16 winters with no working furnace-freezing...so sit under blankets doing nothing but keeping warm. I'd go healthy, whole food keto and only intermittent fast if your body initiates it. On keto, you'll only get hunger signals if truly hungry, not false signals from sugar crashes after high carb meals. Then just listen to your body.
It has been mentioned before that pregnant/nursing moms and kids under 16 shouldn't intermittent fast unless their own bodies initiate it.

I only eat one meal a day and I’m still overweight. I have coffee and about 6 Oreos each morning I’ve been doing that for years because I’m hungry in the mornings but I don’t like breakfast foods and then I never have lunch and then I make dinner in the evenings. I don’t fry foods I usually bake or sauté chicken or turkey burgers or rice with chicken potatoes etc. so I don’t know how I haven’t lost any weight over the years. I am a woman 5’7” around 206 lbs. I have been this size most of my adult life. I was a skinny kid and started gaining weight around middle school and went through 6 pregnancies and I gained weight with those the most I weighed pregnant was 279 but I lost that weight and went back to 206 second pregnancy 250 went back to 206 third pregnancy I only gained 7 lbs lost that weight the fourth pregnancy 255 back to 206 fifth pregnancy I miscarried early so no weight gain sixth pregnancy was twins stillborn at 6 month pregnant I went up to 235 with them back down to 206 and still 206. I walk a lot because I don’t currently have a car but I just cannot loose weight? I don’t understand it.

People have interpreted the studies and science all wrong with insulin. Reducing the amount of meals will minimise insulin spikes, but your body will still use the same amount of insulin per day - it’s just spread out.
Sure, you don’t want to eat 10 meals a day, you need to give your pancreas time for recovery and regeneration of insulin reserves - but you don’t need to go as extreme as OMAD.
The main problem with insulin isn’t how much is needed to metabolise a meal, it’s the severity of the spike. High spikes can quickly stress the pancreas and cause blood sugar to measure high, potentially causing damage if it occurs chronically. If you avoid foods that score high on the Glycemic Index, this won’t happen.
Eating baked goods and chocolate all in one go, versus three times a day, sure it may reduce risk of insulin resistance - but the spikes to 100 glucose will still damage the body if you eat this every day. However, if you eat healthy; Mediterranean diet, two or even three meals per day - it’s not going to increase your risk of insulin resistance over eating everything one go. The insulin spikes are very far from 100 glucose, not stressing the pancreas at all.
