手技TEWAZA「別府竹細工」beppu bamboo craft／伝統工芸 青山スクエア Japan traditional crafts Aoyama Square

室町時代に行商用の籠を作って売り出したのが始まりとされています。江戸時代には、別府温泉の名が広まり、温泉の客が滞在中に使う台所用品が作られました。これらが土産物として持ち帰られるようになるにつれ、竹細工がたくさん作られるようになり、別府周辺の地場産業となりました。
In the 19th century, the bamboo crafts made by local farmers became popular as souvenirs among the people who came here for a hotspring cure.
