Here's a project that was a collaboration of me and my 8 year old son. He wanted an axe to go with his Viking costume, so we designed and made it together. I realise this is not at all what a historic Viking axe would look like, but it is definitely fun to make, and even more fun to use!!

I found this for a haunted house, I stayed to watch a father and son bond in such a wholesome way
What a lucky kid.
This is the most wholesome video ever 😭🤚
This was the cutest thing ever 💜 Not the axe. The axe was fierce. You and your kid are so cute together 💜
Thank you SO MUCH for this video. I'm getting into prop making -- just as a personal hobby -- and I was dreading having to look into how to make an axe because I expected to find only the 2 extremes of 'something to distract your children' or 'can only be made if you have expensive pro tools'. This is a very approachable project, with great results. And you even provide templates for those wanting to follow along -- thank you!
keep up the good work Chris, both as a dad and prop maker!
much fun watching your videos mate!!
Best of luck to you and your family
+joe3wong Thanks!!

The foam is strong
That's awesome :D Thanks for the tutorial. This will help a lot with the LARP party I planned for my birthday ^^
As you did it, and I'm planning to, do you think this is okay for LARP ? I'm afraid the handle would be taken out if I hit someone...
This actually held quite well :)
Thanks a lot!
You are awesome :3
This is really great it's going to help me a lot for my cosplay! Quick question, what grit sandpaper were you using?
What a wonderful blend of accents your sun has develped Chris! quite charming.
+Robin Bevis Yep, he's kinda half Aussie, half Canadian. I wish I could sound like that:)
I personally prefer to apply wax paint with my finger, no glove. The glove wrinkles and I just feel more precise bare finger
Yeah, I used to use my finger all the time, but I found I sometimes got fingerprints on my piece, also I have gotten a lot more careful about what chemicals I allow onto my skin. You are right about the wrinkling of the glove being super annoying.
Nice barbarian helmet. A Viking helmet never had horns
What about a fireman axe from the shining
are u osom guy! and I love soooo much u work with foam! is so increrible , love from Chile!
p.s: I don't look the base of the axe):
aawww he is so cute :D
We want more steampunk!! :D
Hi Chris! Could you make a tutorial from a foam chestplate?
Please make a Roman costume !!!!
Hmmm. I have a meet-up tonight. Maybe I'll make something similar, but filled with horror to match my tumor-like face prosthetics! Who doesn't love a Silent Hill vibe?
Alternative Ending: After the camera was shit down the son killed his father and became a unicorn.
Hey, how many sort of normal size foam mat pieces would you have to use? Thanks ☺
You can easily fit it all on one of the interlocking floor mats.
Out of curiosity, is that axe strong enough for heavy battle?
I wonder if this is larp safe
how much would the Dowling cost
Super Dad
How do you find/make a pattern?
his cute
I live this video but I have a few questions, in the instructions we purchased it says to flip the pattern, when tracing the 4 axe heads, why flip the pattern?
I think it means to flip the pattern for 2 of the 4 axe heads. The axe heads are not perfectly symmetrical in design, so if you are using foam that thas a texture on one side, the pattern will need to be flipped for 2 of them to keep the texture to the inside. If your mat is not textured it doesn't matter.
Going larping are we Chris
"Helmets are cool."
Anyone else taking tips from this tutorial to make a marceline axe guitar??
Im making the eye of elyria for a necromancer azoth cosplay
What did you use to sand the texture off?
Just some 50 grit sandpaper. And it wasn't so much to sand off the texture, as to rough it up so the glue would hold well.
Where did you get the pattern for the battle ax
We made it up, but you can grab it here: www.lostwaxoz.com/shop
What kind of foam did you/he used?
I use EVA foam, like you get in the puzzlepiece foam mats
What did you use for the handle?
The handle is pvc conduit wrapped with foam.
he won, didnt he? we all know your son won.. :)

This dude make $25 to $402 a month and between $300 and $4800 a year off youtube. Good for him
That's not a lot of money compared to a real job.
Shaun Masterton Think about it this way, He makes about $300 to $4800 of youtube alone. After checking Social Blade he recently makes up to 5.3k a year of CZcams. Then he sells his patterns for about $7.00 with the exception of the "everything bundle" on his website for $33.00. Now lets say his subscribers buy his patterns. He has about 63k, now most of his subscribers probably only watch his videos and dont even buy his pattern. So lets say between 5% and 75% may buy his patterns. So that would make him about $22k to $330k alone. The best part is, this isnt a main job, but instead extra revenue made off a hobby.
Your estimates (5% and75% n shit) are MILES apart . there really not accurate.
+Shaun Masterton There is no way to give an accurate estimate without the knowledge of the person making the money. This means I have to spread the estimate to give more possiblities as to the actual total of currency he might be making.
Even still . Its not a lot of cash. Especially compared to a lot of other youtubers out there.
Is that rubber good for the appearance of leather armour?I was thinking of using just a sheet of that instead buying the more expensive leather sheeting I was looking at here..... media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m6oe591I2w1qlw9b4.jpgI want to make the axe blades larger by building around them as well the haft. I also want to give them both a authentic finish without wasting to much money. I was eyeing cans of spray on rubber instead trying to glue sheeting to what is already there. I don't have a lot of money to spend on this project.

A dremel could also work for the edges
Totally! Just make sure to wear a mask though.
