I like how they edit out the part where you run to the hardware store eleven times
Also like how they've edited out all the swearing and thumbs that were hit with hammers, and all the cut hands
LMAO
Tom Silva is the man!
I love how Tom showed there's no weight on the stud that was already cut. Very strong evidence.
It wasn't even a stud.
If there had been weight on it, it wouldn't have been able to come free like that
He said it was a gable wall and he knew a main rafter was there.. so he knew from experience that wall was not part of structure.
Where did the electrical get moved & how?
4:34 Where in the heck did SHE come from? And where did Brian go??
That is Brian, it was after the transition
Where did she come from cotton eyed joe
That's what the closet was for
Omg, im dying. Lol
Well the other side of the door is still OPEN. They were falling off one by one after testing the door.
Tommy's using a Home Depot pencil 1:48 In all the shows they always call it the Home Center!
Home depot suck$!
Free always looks great!
Lovely work 👍🏼
I love this man
"What do you think?" she says "It looks great!" Well of course she'd say that, he's holding a nail gun.
The implication,,,,
Maxid1 b man
Love hearing the accent!
Why's everything look so damn easy when Tommy is there doing it all for you?!
Good job guys
Dark green polo Tommy was invincible
Just got a backdoor thanks
Smoothly does it ;) Nice work
What did you do with the electrical outlet?
I also wondered about that. I am VERY surprised that nothing was mentioned about that which would have been very interesting and helpful.
Glad I wasn't the only one wondering about this.
Keep in mind these are heavily edited segments from the show. In the complete episode, I believe Tommy tells the homeowner to get an electrician to remove that later. He didnt touch the box.
true.....and the (dis)credit for that goes to the editor of the video
They used the reciprocating saw and got rid of it.
Those paint covered hinges really adds a lot of character. Lol
Husband helped. Wife aproved! 😁
amazing : ) i wish you were my dad LOL
Could I ask you to please tell me (or link to a video of yours) on how to install an exterior door entry threshold and the best way to weatherstrip the bottom, top and sides of the door?
We uploaded a video that may help! Watch How to Weatherstrip an Exterior Door: How to Weatherstrip an Exterior Door
Also check out a step-by-step for How to Replace a Threshold on our website: www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/how-to/intro/0,,20051658,00.html
What nails are they using?
Length and full round head?
Where can I buy a door jam?
They never show you that difficult part or moment when you get stuck and don’t know what to do lol
All the “Greats” are named Tom. Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, Tom Silva…
Total pro, kid 😂
4:35 Godzilla outta nowhere!
Frank Garrett that's the airless nail gun they make that sound after each nail
This guy can build a replica of the Empire State building out of wood
What did you nail the jam to?
Head jam into the side jam.
Please tell me the homeowner added some weather stripping to that door. Or he was okay with heating and cooling the entire attic.
Timothy Bess i'd use expanding foam to seal up and secure everything. The few finishnails and shims wont hold the doof for Long term.
And what do yah think?? Waiting for the day someone goes, it looks terrible. 😂
i am adding a half bath with a laundry room to my covered porch. (i am closing it, don't worry.:-)) I am taking out a window to add the door going from inside the house to the new bathroom. can you tell me how to easily go from brick to sheet rock with the door jam. Its about 10 inches thick from outside brick to inside sheet rock.
thank you.
You should leave the porch as it is and not close it. It saves on air conditioning. To transition from brick to sheet rock get a sledge hammer and make random holes, it's more interesting.
Did Brian appear as Brenda at the end?
What type of nail gun is that he’s using? Standard framing nail gun? Battery powered?
Battery powered with gas canister. You can buy different ones like framing, finish, etc. They're expensive though
How to open a doorway in mud wall or brick wall with mud mortar....?
Storm doors-Good interior doors 0:00/4:40
Did he glue the trim over the tape, what halfassery is this.
Never took off the tape or mentioned how to re rout power outlet.
Only thing wrong with this whole thing...they were blocking the fire hydrant! LOL ...
so on a non-load bearing wall is a king/jack stud needed?
Tommy didn't install a jack stud--there is no header--just a 2x4 across the top (where the header would normally be) acting as a nailer. Not specifically mentioned in the video, but the opening's "king studs" look to be the regular wall framing studs.
@@kenc2257 thanks for the reply, good to know I did it right!
I wish that you would show the whole video instead of cutting out parts
He did it inna day, took me a month and had to hired a framer
I would never reinstall those hinges as they showed. I’d either clean/strip the paint off or install new ones.
I would like to see a more detailed step by step version. This was to fast da da version.
What happened to the j- box and electrical wires!!!
Why not make the video a minute or two longer so you can pace it at a normal rate?
Was there no place to work other than in the street in front of a fire hydrant?
Nice buddy I didn't catch that, you a firefighter or police officer ¿
no finished product>? tease
But what they don’t show is what they did with the electrical or the illegal junction box that was covered
@2: 34 he putted drywall screws on the hinge. ???!!!
"put" not "putted"
Yeah saw that also. Seems like he uses them for everything.
They aren't drywall screws.
Watch your head
I wonder if he got a ticket for blocking thar fire hydrant.
"How to Install a House" 4:17
It blows my mind u guys don't have a million subscribers
nick longstaffe umm they have 1.1 now
Crazy tom ...
Good 0:00/4:40
No weight on a stud DOES NOT mean it's not load bearing.
Skipped alot of things
that electrical was a pain for tommy.. the lath n plaster..the moldings.. the frame.. that was a all day job...the off the shelf door is a 1 hour job but this was a longgg job.. hard and tom makes it easy... ps.. the hinge screws shouldant be drywall screws
since you apparently know more than Tommy, where is your channel and/or TV show?
Those weren't drywall screws.
Hope there is no need to get to the fire hydrant.
Anyone who ever has to take that door out is gonna hate him because he was too lazy and had to use a framing gun and went a little crazy with the nails
Wait did the homeowner do a Caitlyn Jenner ? He just transformed to a woman...
Momma thick
That's not how the door trim should be is it? You should have another piece on the bottom of each side of the door. Or is that how you do it in america? Seems lazy.
Do you mean like a square wooden, decorative escutcheon or plinth?
I have no idea what to call it in English. google "skurkloss" and it might give you an idea of what I'm on about.
Ja, på engelska kallar vi det som "base block" eller "plinth block". Se ordlistan på www.masonite.com/residential/learn/doors-101/door-glossary#P
That's how it's typically done in America in cheaper construction.
@@volundrfrey896 that isn't typical here in the US. The main reason is we like precise and precision corners. Those addons at the bottom, while that may be how they're supposed to look, do not look right to an American. They look like the homeowner ran out of wood and cut up a segment (that wasn't the right size) and attached it to the bottom.
I hate that they shortened up the episodes and made them into these rushed how to videos.
It is all a teaser and they try to direct you to their site for $$$$ to subscribe to see the full episodes.
Waaaaay too abbreviated. No substantial usable content.
*No thanks to this one. I'll just call a professional*
