Yeah, Canelo absolutely never said that he wouldn't fight Mexicans period. He said he had no problem if it was a fight to make. And like I mentioned in another comment, he was referring to his Mexican nationals and at no point did he say he wouldn't fight American Benavidez because he's part Mexican, that's just a phony claim haters came up with. Matter of fact, in an interview with Azteca when he was asked about fighting Mexicans back when the topic first came up a few years ago, they were specifically asking about Munguia who Canelo felt was too green at the time. They asked him separately about American Benavidez and Canelo said that would be a great fight but David ended up taking himself out of the unification picture by dropping his belt.
That’s a terrible excuse because he’s already beat the hell out of guys like Angulo and Chavez Jr.

True boxing enthusiasts know that Munguia is not on the same level as Canelo, in regards to skillls, but it will be a good fight for fans because Munguia is very offensive minded. At the end of the day this should’ve been Canelo vs David and it’s a shame that the boxing world is losing out on this.

A few things: First of all it's funny how Benavidez fans act like it's him or nothing because he got taken the distance with Canelo's leftovers when Munguia at least made a statement by taking out Ryder. And between Munguia and Benavidez, Munguia is the actual relentless guy willing to walk through shots to get his. Benavidez is the one who looks more bothered when he gets tagged and has his momentum stopped. Plant who's not even a big puncher had him thinking twice about coming forward until he started gassing.
Also, Canelo never said he wouldn't fight Mexicans period, he said he wouldn't target them more if they have no business being in the ring with him, but had no problem if it was the fight to make. And he was referring to his Mexican nationals, at no point did he ever say anything about not fighting American half Ecuadorian Benavidez because he's part Mexican, that's just a narrative haters come up with. Matter of fact, he had previously dismissed Munguia for being too green but said a fight with American Benavidez would be a good fight, but it's Benavidez who took himself out of the unification picture by dropping his belt.
And Tim said David should sue the WBC? He only took the actual title eliminator within this past year despite his team lying about being 3 year mandatory fighting Ellis when that was a rando cherrypick he took coming off dropping his belt after dismissing Plant and Smith unifications and rejecting a 175 title shot. Benavidez still doesn't look like he's in a hurry by rushing to sign Gvozdyk even though his team acknowledged receiving an offer from Canelo and the WBC was set to rule on his status this month, along with David saying he'd refuse to cross the street if that's what it takes.
Basically, people are somehow trying to make a hero victim out of the dude who spent the bulk of his career padding his 0 while holding out for a 1 fight cash out and expects it to be on his terms. And he's not even pretending otherwise, in a recent interview David rejected fighting Morrell even though that would be one of the few fighters with upside and size he ever fought saying he shouldn't have to take fights like those since he's not a champ, and said only Canelo should be fighting him when he already took all the other fights David ducked out on and the only one who did the heavy lifting.
Meanwhile these guys aren't even pretending to be anything other than hypocrites like Tim recently saying Bud shouldn't have to fight Boots and should be allowed to pick and choose on his 1 fight a year schedule even though he's only fought 1 reigning champ over the past half decade, but he complains about Canelo who fought more champs than anyone with the biggest debate being which undefeated champ he'll face next-- and unlike Bud with Boots, Canelo never ruled out fighting Benavidez and doesn't even have his next mandatory due with team Benavidez acknowledged receiving an offer but David stays fighting leftovers. Dude only fought one of Canelo's leftovers as his top career opponent in 11 years as a prop but people are acting like he's an eager fighter and some kind of victim when the only person who ever held him back was himself.
