I got an offer to do my masters in Durham and the city is what's most appealing to me. Since I'm a much older student, I don't really care about the nightlife, I'm happy with a good bar and nice places to walk. It's one of my top picks, but I still can't seem to make up my mind. Good video, when I watch this you're already past the 100 followers, so congrats!
congrats on your offer!!! what are you doing your masters in??? durham is great for pubs and walks, especially by the river and bailey. the bars are good too, there's a different pub for everyone (all of my friends and i have different favourites so picking somewhere to start a pub crawl is always a challenge lol).

@@sydewing I’m doing an MA in Education, so I’m really excited, it’s my first time in the UK. I put Ustinov, University (Castle) and St. Cuthbert’s as my college options.
I’ve met my closest friends in my final year, so for anyone watching this in first year who’s worried that they haven’t found their gang yet, it’s okay! Definitely join societies, almost all of the friends I’ve made have been through societies - including Syd!! 💗

This was super super super helpful Syd, thanks for answering everything in depth! One last thing that popped up in my head was the quality of the catering services of the colleges, are they any good or super repetitive and bland? (I am currently preferring to go to a catered college). I'm guessing that mostly first years only use this option but I'm genuinely curious as to whether it is worth it for the high price point.

for college food,
i'll start off by saying if you have any dietary restrictions or allergies, catered colleges are probably NOT the move for you. i know a few people in catered colleges that either we're served their allergens or get meals that just seem thrown together with random bits, if that makes sense...
THAT BEING SAID: i've seen a few different photos/videos of college meals that look amazing at some colleges, but horrible at others. i think it honestly depends on the college so if you're able to, i would look around on tiktok because the most recent videos of college meals will be on there!
what colleges are you looking at right now??
@@sydewing As of right now, my top 3 on the preferences are 1. Chad's 2. Cuth's and 3. St Mary's , essentially made a table out of review videos and catering availability. I believe Chad's and John's have independent catering so they have been said to have better meals from what I've read.

Hey, I'm not too sure as I study anthropology. I would look at rankings, employment rates post-grad, and student satisfaction. One caveat to this is remembering that last year, there were lots of prof strikes, and some of the retribution by students was to leave really bad reviews, so I would take a lot of the low reviews with a grain of salt.

The colleges at Durham are just halls of residences, aren't they?
yes, you’ll live in colleges for first year but they also make up a massive amount of your social circle as they have sports teams, societies, and throw balls that only members of that college can attend.
