- When Dragon Ball comes to mind, the techniques might one of the first things people think about. So many cool moves like the Kamehameha exist in the series, but what about those moves meant to finish off a foe? We probably know the big ones, but what about the moves that were all show and no results? I call these the "failed finishing moves" since they have the presentation of an ender, but ultimately leave the foe around to fight another day. We want to find the coolest moves that ultimately didn't have the final results in the Dragon Ball series. Sam from Dungeon Dive Bar join me for this one.

I never even thought about that. Toriyama really made sure to Chiaotzu out of the way early whenever he was around.

Whoever decided Krillin's Destructo Disc against Cell would just fail completely, instead of having its damage be regenerated away, was being spiteful.

Wouldn't matter anyway cell did the same thing to gohan and it didn't work because his power was too high like any other attack
Yeah imagine how cool of a showoff of his regeneration it could've been if it decapitated him and krillin jumped in surprise and celebration, before someone points out that his body wasn't falling, and in fact he'd caught his own head in his hand, holding it looking toward himself in the classic shakespearean pose, before raising it back above his neck as it reattaches itself, with a comment along the lines of "Not bad human. Between you and that... what was it, tien man, I'm honestly a bit disappointed my journey to perfection was so simple. If I was back in my first form, you two might've made fun toys to play with before my true battle."
I think the main reason they didn't do that was because if Krillin took Cell's head off there it would have ruined the surprise of just how strong his regeneration was and took away from the Final Flash scene

Piccolo praising Chiaotzu’s bravery could be a callback to when Chiaotzu attempted to pull an Oolong on King Piccolo.
Yeah, it’s one of those things that doesn’t have a real world analogue to compare to, but - even if King Piccolo and Jr aren’t technically the same person, Jr does have his dad’s memories as though they were his own lived experiences. Those inherited ‘experiences’ were real enough for Jr to base all his actions upon them until early Z. I would argue then that Piccolo does count as having ‘met’ Chiaotzu prior to the attack of the Saiyans:P
Shoutouts to Toriyama for making it so suicide attack have a 0% success rate subconsciously implanting the idea that doing so in real life will have a similar result

I just remember that depending on who was dubbing it, the "Spirit Bomb" was given other names because "bomb" is a bad word apparently.
4Kids called it the "Spirit Blast"
The Saban dub called it the "Triple Strike" for some reason
The Big Green/AB dub just outright called it the Kamehameha instead.
It's so dumb.
Yes its weird when I first watched DBZ they called it as Triple Strike DBZ Kai called it as using the Spirit Bomb on Vegeta.

Another anime only scene for the Destructo Disc- Kid Buu teleports to Grand Kai’s planet a bit before he senses Goku and Vegeta and Krillin decides to huck a disc at him while the little monster isn’t looking. He connects and actually slices Kid Buu in half at the waist, but Buu just slides his top half back into place and giggles.

@@miky9504 The Tournament arena, RR army base, I like the Pirate secrete base too, the king's palace, supreme kais planet, Karim Tower, Kamis Lookout, not just CC, but the whole west city, Kame House, Ox Satan's mountain, Ura nai babas palace, Gohan's school, there was one episode in an amusent park that looks really cool

Fun fact tao pai pai was based of the villain from snake in the eagles shadow and inspired lau chan in virtual fighter whose name is an homage to tau and Jackie Chan who played the hero in snake in the eagles shadow

If we were going just by Z, I would say the Kamehameha, for as iconic as it is, doesn't really finish anyone off except for Cell. And it wasn't even Goku that did it. Yeah, it's weird. Despite being the hero throughout most the series, Goku only deals the finishing blow twice. Both in the Buu Saga, first against Yakon and then Buu himself.
The Roshi episode of Super was my favorite.
My favorite 2 character designs are Tien and Roshi sadly they are almost always background characters in anything after OG Dragon Ball sometimes getting shining moments but Krillin had better moments
Definitely mine as well. As soon as I saw their techniques in Dragon Ball, I was hooked on watching them do more for the rest of Dragon Ball. Even in Super, it felt like their moments were just made of a specific episode rather than being in fights or plotlines scattered across an arc like the focal characters.
In fairness to Vegeta, the Final Flash is the first time that Cell ever takes THAT much damage from a hit. Every other time he had to regenerate, it was pretty minor damage. I think he genuinely was unsure if he would be able to safely take that much damage until the smoke cleared and he saw most of his body was still intact.
Guess they forgot the fact that Goku ascended in GT, the Buu bomb was only the earth inhabitants, and GT was the Universal Spirit Bomb.

The Genki-dama worked on Buu because Evil Buu was pure evil at heart.
Vegeta and Frieza are cruel, sadistic, bastards... but they're not evil at heart. The Spirit Bomb wasn't going to wipe them out.
When Buu purged himself of any goodness, he inadvertantly sealed his fate against this move. That tiny detail everyone misses, is a perfect climax to the series.

I like that they included him, but I wish TFS had a dedicated filler episode for the Cell arc like they did in their Saiyan and Freeza seasons (and technically the Maron episode).

The spirit bomb against Buu was only from everyone on Earth. The one against Omega Shenron was from the universe.
I felt like the instant/warp Kamehameha should be on the list.
I kind of feel it should have replaced the Angry Kamehameha. Sure the Angry Kamehameha didn't kill Frieza, but as he pointed out in the video it did end the fight. The Warp Kamehameha on the other hand just straight up failed, doing pretty much exactly what Final Flash did.

In the 1995 English dub Goku wanted to use a "TRIPLE STRIKE" on Vegeta during the Saiyan Arc he never got the chance BUT DBZ Kai changed that line from using a Triple Strike on Vegeta to using the Spirit Bomb on him instead.

Technically the spirit bomb is used four times. As an oozaru Vegeta slaps Goku right before he throws it and causes him to lose all the energy he gathered which is why the second one is weaker.

I think the Mafuba gets easier to manage with more training/stamina... and if the enemy isn't overwhelmingly stronger than you...? But that's only with Super in mind... as for Freeza, based on Ressurection F he was still alive when diced to pieces by Trunks since that's how the dragon revived him :O

@13:40 huh?? So initially semi-perfect cell was his final form? Or was the first form just that ugly and they said transition to something less ugly?
There are some interviews with Toriyama that confirm it, so there could be some details lost in translation or not known, but he basically said his editor didn't like Imperfect or Semi-Perfect Cell as the final villain of the arc, so he had to rewrite the story a bit.

I still wish Goku used the spirit bomb against Kid Buu in ssj3. Ssj3 never had a win outside of the movies.
I think the final flash had to fall if the move who'd have been successful in killing cell it would take a lot from his character and the fact that tranks and almost every died because of him

I know that "Tri-Beam" is only the English name, but still, has anyone else noticed that the "Tri-Beam" makes a quadrilateral pattern?
Genki Dama probably would have killed Vegeta if Goku wasn't injured and lost some of it so Frieza was the first time it was used properly.
The Tournament of Power is probably the worst use of it because Goku tried to use an attack that doesn't hurt the pure hearted against someone who was presented as basically Superman.

However, unlike Supes, Jiren is not a hero because he wants to help others, instead he's one because he wants to fight stronger opponents to demonstrate that he is the stronger figther.

All we knew was that he was from a team of galactic superheroes who didn't want to fight in the tournament despite his overwhelming power. That doesn't sound like someone you'd Spirit Bomb. Even if it could have worked it didn't seem like it should

And Goku was desperate at the time as well, everything else failed, after all.

Also they had to shoehorn in a reason for Goku to be able to stand there and gather energy for a few minutes in the middle of an arena where there was a time limit. And spectacle aside, it was a really weird way to introduce a new form.

I don't, I think it fits perfectly with both the story of the technique and with what the characters knew about their rivals.

2 problems I have with Chiaotzu in the Saiyan saga.
1. His power level should've been at lease 1,100.
2. Nappa should've took damage.
The only Spirit Bomb that was more effective than Kid Buu saga was against Super Android 13 which was the Super spirit Bomb also the only True move Goku has is the Golden Dragon Fist which wasn't used very often oddly

Also, if argue that Krillin's Destructo Disc is like Zoltraark in Frieren: a move so good and efficient at killing that it eventually becomes public domain, because everyone learns how to use it.
According to a triva fact in Dragon Ball Z Kakarot, Piccolo didn't actually blow up the moon. He used a magical ability to hide the moon from Earth's orbit

Those are the Bottom 10 entries. Not the Top 10.
These are merely the Top 10 of the Failed moves, rather than the bottom 10 of all finishing moves in the series, so there is ground to say that it is still the top, for what is at the top is bottom, and bottom is top. Now go forth and combine! I summon Stardust Dragon!
