I like how 5 years later people are coming back to this game taking back what they said about it
When it first came out, people were used to getting the same kinda game every year. It's hard to appreciate this game when you expect a fully improved version the following year. Also I still dont like the story

PorkeyWings This game needed to be baked more the Templar dating an assassin could been interesting, but Ubisoft wanted to please investors instead of the players.
5 years ago this game had tons of bugs and ran like garbage on consoles and mid tier PCs. If you play it now you’ll get a very different experience
I still cant stand it. Feels like an incoherent matching of old and new ac mechanics. I found it very clunky and underdeveloped.

The animations look beautiful but there were too many bugs and unrealistic hitboxes,I think thats why they literally dumped the whole physics engine of this game because it was too difficult to handle ,there were too many actions and many environment obstacles that can cause thousands of bugs from anywhere

we did not like it at first because it was a broken mess that was unfinished and pushed out the door to meet a yearly release date its only after they fixed that we could play it properley to see it was a good game

@Christopher Marlowe Because people got tired of it and releasing Unity and Syndicate in quick succession really hurt their sales. Didn't help that Unity was very bugged first year and too demanding to work properly on consoles. With new approach to the series (Origins, Odysset) their sales risen to levels never seen before. Look, I also feel like Unity is one of most underrated games of the entire series but facts are clear: this game was super expensive and it didn't pay off.

Been playing this more recently to try and unlock more pieces of gear. I find myself just parkouring around the entire map, not doing anything else.

The graphics were way ahead of it's time and still looks absolutely amazing.
It's so aesthetically pleasing and satisfying.
The gameplay and parkour are soo fluid and smooth that it makes u feel like a real assassin

Same! Favorite game of the series. Beat parkour, combat, customization, story was good, city was stellar, and the creed is actually there. Even the characters aka villians, and your own members of the creed are cool. Loved unity

@@GumShuro I liked the smaller more simplistic story of this one that focused on the relationship between two characters I stead of some convoluted larger plot. It made a nice change and felt easier to empathize with the characters

The graphics of this game, especially for an open world, was insane. Guess that’s why it chugged like a train on consoles.

It wasn't because of the consoles, there's games like Horizon: Zero Dawn with better graphics that run smoother. It's just it wasn't optimized well when it came out, with the new updates they optimized it fortunately and from what I heard it runs smooth now

Best combat, best parkour, best map, insane details and graphics, underrated.
Combat was way better in Ac3 and Syndicate...but the rest was almost flawless in this game.

I agree with you the hate band wagon was extreme but to be fair as paying customers we deserved better at launch. This and AC3 are among my favorite AC games, where everyone(rightfully) criticized those games I saw potential. Unity was actually the last AC game I bought and played, I wanna get back into the series but don’t see the appeal(though they almost had me with origins, they lost me with odyssey)
Never understood it. Played it from day one on PC. Never ran across these bugs people blew up into mythical levels. It was so exaggerated for no reason. Game was always amazing. Still is. Replaying the whole series on my channel to hype myself for ACV.
@@cptfreeman8966 I liked origins and odyssey a lot personally, have a lot of hours in both games, and ill be getting valhalla aswell, but I gotta be honest, they didnt feel like assassins creed games, they were just another rpg, not bad ones, but they lost the AC soul, I used to consider assassins creed a genre on its own, and Unity was the peak, it had a shaky launch, and still has glitches and bugs, but at its core, it was the perfect AC game.

How does this look and feel more realistic than odyssey?
Odyssey's goals weren't realism or immersion, unfortunately. They really went with a "bigger is better" approach. More landmass, more numbers, more items, more everything. At the end of the day, Assassin's Creed Unity will always be a more 'pure' and fundamental experience than Odyssey could hope to be.

This game is a zombie testimony that graphics and gameplay mechanics were already up there 5 years ago but hardware wasn't. Also bugs were fixed in later patches.
Graphics are wayyy above what they are now as well hardware isn’t though.

The animations are still next gen, as are the textures and lighting. Thank you for showing how truly pioneering this game really was.

Just completed this in 2021, and I have to say this game was way ahead of its time. A very ambitious game with visuals matching the quality of next generation game consoles, with the animations being top notch to go along with the visuals. A very impressive condensed map, that is full of detail, and an insane amount of NPC'S in the game world. I can not believe, I never played this game before, due to the bad reputation it received when it was released way back in 2014. This game is easily one of the strongest entries in the series, it does not deserve the bad reputation. I would love for Assassin's Creed 2, to be remade in the unity engine with all the details that comes with it. After 3 games with huge open world maps, think the next game should just focus on one giant city map, and make it about an actual Assassin. My top 3 AC games are [1]. AC Origins [2]. AC 2 [3]. AC Unity

The atmosphere is one of the best in the ac series when you stand and observe the npc and the simulation, its so convincing i miss stealth ac now it doesnt hit the same. Im glad i grew up playing ac before ubi and some fans changed it

I played this in 2016 for the first time and it was my first AC game ever. Currently I'm playing Origins but I'm proud to say that this one introduced me to everything and I would gladly replay this all over again!
I still stand by the statement that this probably is the greatest looking of all time. It's absurd how ridiculously good it looks.

Unity is still probably my favorite AC game to play. How beautiful it is, how fluid movement and everything is. The size of the city, it’s density.. Then my favorite part; genuinely the MOST I’ve ever felt a game world to be living & breathing, and truly alive.
Unity is so amazing. I’m so glad I first played it when it was mostly patched up. The stealth and parkour is honestly the best in this game. And the graphics still hold up 7 years later!
They needa bring this style of ac games back after unity I ain’t picked up ac game since, origins and odyssey don’t cut it for me the gameplay look mad boring and doesn’t even feel like your an assassin they really did make this big Witcher 3 rip off and thought it was good
They had plenty of time to redeem themselves: unity, syndicate, rogue (one of the best) and they fucked up every game there's simply very little room for improvement in this game style after releasing more than 10 games, ask around and you will see unity was actually the worst ac ever. They should had killed the franchise after rogue and make a new one to add the rpg mechanics because at this point they are just milking it.

@@jace4203 ikr unity had harder combat mechanism kind of reminds me of ac 2 which is good, many people think that the MAIN problem is the game style, so they had to change the whole game style but its not, its because of the boring storyline, still buggy stealth and freerun mechanism which lead to frustration during quests, not to mention how buggy it was at launch probably because the engine was quite new at that time and they obviously dont have enough time to develop the game.
syndicate is even much worse, worse storyline, london just isnt fun for freerunning (cant really blame them on this), tho i like the city visually, worse combat mechanism.
origin is a successful game in its own genre because they took more time to develop and refining the game before launch.

I remember this game had serious fps problems at launch. Even with the high end hardware it used to give 30 fps around. The developers said to lower the settings even though it made no change. Maybe it got better in time.
It's prob also because we have better hardware now. Before not alot of people had a before GTX 970 but today many people have a GTX 1060 which is stronger than a 970.
And cpu power has also increased for most people.
I bought this game yesterday. I expected it to look pretty yet still amazed when playing it. I played in 4K. Arno’s face & eyes could be better but the environment is so beautiful & vibrant. Partly because it’s set in France. 8 years and the graphics have aged so well.
Just downloaded the game 2 days ago cuz I’m bored in quarantine, and I have to say this may be my favorite assassins creed, everything about it just feels so clean and epic.
Honestly... Everything about this game, From the Parkour to the Kill animations... Mmmm... Masterful!😘👌
When Unity came out first I fell in love with the game right away. Best combat system with the best customizations. Interesting stories. I didn't understand why people hated it so much but I'm so glad that people are giving it what it deserves now.

Hey Swifty, just wanted to drop by and say thank you for making this video because it was one of few that made me want to get back into the AC franchise.
ACIII left a sour taste in my mouth and I chose to ignore AC up until 2019 when I came across this video, and others like it showcasing Unity's badass gameplay potential, thus piquing my interest enough to drown out all the negative things that have been said about the series. Because of this I was able to do a full series marathon leading up to Valhalla and have plugged in so many hours into it out of sheer love for not only the game itself, but the entire franchise.
I don't mean to self promote, but I also want to mention that while I do have massive respect for long play videos like this, I've taken a particular liking to making Stealth Combo Montages of Valhalla to my favourite music on my channel.

There's something so fun about still watching people play this game in such a stealthy way. Very nice run!
Here’s a tip for new players for stealth. Smoke bombs are your friends, use them when you’re alone and facing a group of enemies. I also use it when fighting groups of enemies, to either get away or make it easier to kill them.

Honestly this looks so good. They could refine the stealth mechanics some more, make the free combat a little more sekiro-like (with better crowd control) and we would have a near perfect open world game. The potential is there

I love how all of the movements, from throwing a smoke bomb to killing a person with a knife, are all very subtle and assasin-like unlike the newer ac games.

I've only played the last 3 AC games (Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla) and it really amazes me how Ubisoft managed to downgrade the combat and movements so hard when I look at this gameplay. Perhaps I should give this game a try

Could you imagine if Ubisoft made like a medieval era of AC where the targets where the Knights of the round table or the brotherhood were the Knights of the round table!! It have some great potential!! But they need to bring back Unity’s parkour for it!! ( we got just a little taste with the memory of medieval France in unity) where the catapults were firing at you!! And it was an awesome setting!! Just imagine how cool it could be... and maybe they could make Excalibur a piece of Eden!!😍
