I will say this rendition is very lore and reference heavy.

Welp heres my best guess to all the references and stuff:
      1. "turn the juice up put on yo' shoes" is a reference to spamton saying "turn up the juice turn up the juice make sure to not get it on your shoese"
      2. "heart trapped in a cage" is clearly a reference to the ending of chapter 1 (i like how the word cage is red cuz yknow soul color and also love the emphasizing of the word you to show it means it as in the player)
      3. "they tried to look but were blind to see" could be a reference to moti(man on the internet)'s version of entry number 17 where one of the lyrics is "you who look but are blind to see"
      4. "part of a game that he dared not to play" could be referencing the lyrics "part of a game they deigned to play" which i think is a part of the freedom leitmotif that one guy made that (very fittingly) a lot of people use for big shot lyrics and stuff (not sure about this one tho and also i think i might be mixing it up with a remixed version of the leitmotif)
      5. "the end of your tale" hah get it? cuz undertale
      6. "only a fool would try and stop the reign" is a reference to chaos king with lyrics by moti where the same exact thing is said (although in a very different tone so thats cool)
      7. "a game we'll play" idk man jevil i guess
8 "they all think im a [criminal]" is a reference to spamton saying "mike... kris dont believe everything you see on tv! the mans a criminal! a criminal i tell you"
      9. "even if this isnt canon" you already got this one covered thanks fam
      10. "failing yet to see past the dark" might be a reference to spamton saying "so big we stand up tall and see past the dark"
      11. 2:35 to 3:00 is a remixed version of the big shot background lyrics
      12. "the reason why itself is pain" is a reference to the line of text "the pain itself is reason why" from undertale
      13. 2:59 G A S T- HOLY FRICK IS THAT A REFERENCE TO THE SPEAK AND SPELL FROM HEAVEN SAYS. LIKE ITS THE EXACT SAME TEXT TO SPEECH AND ITS EVEN BEING USED TO SPELL A WORD. I REALLY HOPE THATS INTENTIONAL
      14. "why should someone else get to choose our fate" to "hes too late" is a remixed version of the freedom leitmotif (i always love to see this one included in a big shot remix)
      15. "if he wants some fun we'll dish it out with force" oh wow a refence to ad infinitum first one ive ever seen i think
      16. "take back your control" probs not but it could be a reference to the exact same lyric that appears in the theme heaven says
thats all i could find hope i got them all

    • @StarLightShadows
      @StarLightShadows  Před rokem +5

@@rawen1775 Great list! You caught a lot of them. While the G-A-S-T wasn't the same text to speech as in Heaven Says, it was definitely meant to be a reference to that.
"If he wants some fun we'll dish it out with force" is a reference to a Snowgrave song called "Want some Fun," not Ad infinitum. Maybe I might try to fit in a reference to that if I ever do a version two.
One reference I really liked but don't expect anyone to get so I'll point it out: "Chaos Crawls Closer, Answer his name." This line is referencing the Lovecraft Mythos, and its collection of cosmic horrors, as Gaster's pension for driving people insane with forbidden information is very reminiscent of it. Particularly it references the character Nyarlathotep, (Which is the word written in wing-dings in the second half of the line,) who goes by the title "The Crawling Chaos."

After listening to this song for a while i found a few more references:
      1. At 1:14 the word game shows up made out of static which could be a reference to the spamton sweepstakes during which there was a secret website that was entirely just static
      2. The lyrics "And thats why you were summoned to do it all for him but you broke from the plan, they took you and ran" im guessing refer to the intro sequence in deltarune where gaster summons the soul of the player. The "they" in the lyrics is written in blue while the "you" is written in red so im guessing thats reffering to kris getting our soul
      3. The lyrics "Your blood will run cold and stale" might be a reference to specil deal times three with lyrics, specifically the lyric "-And your blood runs cold"
      4. "I send the signals through their domain" might be a reference to VPN's and by extension a reference to Junkil from Deltarune chapter rewritten since instead of a keygen they have a VPN (im not quite sure if thats exactly how VPN's work or just sending signals in general but eh)
      5. "And so the hands come forth to drive you insane" is a clear reference to gaster
      6. "As always were live and this is where i'll stay" could be a reference to moti's mettaton neo lyrics "My name is mettaton and i am here to stay"
      7. "They all think im a [criminal] but im just ahead of the game" is a genius reference to the deltarune community assuming that Mike is some evil showhost villain but really he's not even in the game yet (this is such a good one, cant believe i didnt get it before)
      8. "That cheapskates plan for you has gone off-course" is a reference to the lyrics "the script has gone off-course" in complete indie's version of laugh track

"And that's why you were summoned to do it all for him" him being gaster, and you refers to the player, and that you were summoned, being offered a vessel to use
"They took you and ran!" Kris took the soul and ran, thus, breaking from the plan, "but that won't stop it" connects to the idea that your choices dont matter and that "it" refers to the roaring.

3:08 and 3:21 - Collecting the Shadow Crystals
    3:15 - Don't Forget
3:23 - Musiclide "Want Some Fun?" + Juno Songs' "BIG SHOT"
And having fully typed this out I notice some people have already left comments compiling like, all of this. Oh well.
All in all, this is a very neat cover! I will say it definitely goes some places with the Gaster plotline that aren't currently known but are fully possible. I don't personally think he's masterminded quite as much as you make him out to have; though we may (potentially optionally?) come into conflict with him at some point. Characters like Asgore also have allusions to the devil, despite being well-intentioned. "Beware the man who speaks in hands" mirrors "Beware the man who came from the other world", a line that likely references Sans who, while extremely powerful and should be bewared under certain circumstances, isn't evil. In addition, Clam Girl, who seemingly is an associate of Gaster's, explicitly dissuades you from meeting "Suzy" on any aggressive route, and only leans in further and tells you you'll meet her very soon on the true pacifist ending.

Honestly, don't worry. One of my first lyrical adaptations was a now-deleted Your Best Nightmare, that shamelessly ripped, like, three-quarters, from MOTI. It was my start, and while it's changed since, know that it's not just you. And I believe in you, you clearly have talent. I've been making videos for seven years, and almost yearly I've gone in and deleted stuff. Only recently it's changed.
I 100% see your talent, just a little bit more time and practice and soon you'll be seeing people do videos inspired by you. Be proud, because even if not everything is a success, it's practice and time well spent. You've got this!
EDIT: In addition, there's several sections here that are better than mine, even, so don't sell yourself short.

I think my favorite lyric in this whole song would have to be "Even if this isn't canon, clearly it can still make a mark, cause see all the fans hear my commands, failing yet to see past the dark."
In both of the pre-existing lyrical covers of this song they never had any lyrics referencing the non-canon nature of the character and fight, despite the fangame making it very blatant with the "This is not canon" attack, I felt it was a missed opportunity.
But I especially am proud of the second part of the lyric that I managed to extent from the "it can make a mark" phrase.
It is, of course, a reference to what Spamton said about wanting to "see past the dark," but it's not supposed to refer to the same kind of enlightenment that Spamton was looking for. Sure, enlightenment is a existing concept that some people irl search for, but the "dark" that Mike says the fans don't see past is an entirely different dark, one that Spamton does share, but that he never directly acknowledges. And that's a wool that Gaster has deliberately pulled over the fandom's eyes.
A majority of the Deltarune fandom seem to view Gaster as a benevolent force whose mysterious nature really hides nothing more than an eccentric uncle who does want the best for his associates, even if he sometimes causes issues. Being someone actively fighting against the world-ending threat presented by Ralsei's prophecy.
But, the truth is, when you look at what Deltarune and especially Undertale presents to us, that couldn't be farther from the truth.
Gaster is portrayed by just about everything in Undertale that acknowledges his presence as someone not to take lightly.
His theme is creepy and blatantly reminiscent of Lavender Town, his followers make sure to tell the player that he's always watching in the creeping way possible, while also having subtext that suggests they're outright afraid of him, He's implied to have hired Muffet to kill Frisk and take their soul,(Despite it being unlikely that he intends to use it for the kind of goal the rest of the monsters want Frisk's soul for,) his stats are repeated 6s, an obvious reference to 666, the mark of the beast, he refers to an all-consuming darkness as interesting, and the most major reference to his existence in the game is outright "Beware the man who speaks in hands."
It's a wonder that anyone prior to Deltarune saw him as anything more than a boogie-man, but with Deltarune, his characterization becomes something much more.
Gaster's involvement in Deltarune's story can be split into two camps, one is how Gaster presents himself to the player, and the other is Gaster's affect on the world of Deltarune.
Gaster actively contacts the player and acts notably benevolent to them, saying that the way we've been looking for him is mutual and saying that he wishes to create a bright new future with the player's power. But his actual affect on the story in the universe of Deltarune ranges from suspicious to downright malicious.
Ralsei and his prophecy of the Roaring has many times been pointed out by those in the fandom as being suspicious, and it is, but Ralsei didn't write the prophecy. _Gaster did._ All the way back before Undertale released on deltarune.com. The prophecy suggests that the end of the world is coming thanks to an imbalance in the meta-physical scales of light and darkness, and Gaster has an established history with an all-consuming darkness, implying heavily that Gaster is responsible for the current danger to the Deltarune universe, but the fact that he directly wrote a prophecy about it rules out the notion that this is all the result of an accident.
_He is actively trying to bring about the roaring._ The Prophecy of legend isn't so much a prophecy as it is a *Master Plan* that he is actively manipulating into fruition. Which is backed up by the fact that both Seam and Spamton actively connect him in the appearances he's made in the secret boss plot to *The Roaring Knight,* the entity trying to bring about the roaring.
The prophecy itself is itself deliberately misleading in regards to "The Angel's Heaven," which it presents as the big bad. As the scales of light and dark are shifting in favor of darkness, not light like Angels and Heaven are associated with. Jevil even references an upcoming danger as "Hell's Roar," (Hell being the established opposite of Heaven) a chapter before Ralsei refers to the growing calamity as "The Roaring." This misleading nature connects back to Gaster's association with the Mark of the beast, and thus an entity dubbed "The Anti-Christ," which is to be an embodiment of Satan that presents himself as Christ in order to trick people into following him.
His involvement with the secret boss plotline also portrays him as a manipulative force, taking away Spamton's agency and bringing him to ruin after, not to mention establishing an implicit connection to the looming threat of "Soulless Kris" (Who is one and the same as The Knight,) whose entire fundamental existence as an entity is based on the unwillful manipulation of Kris's own body.
Gaster's self-presentation within the story of Deltarune presents him as a benevolent figure trying to help the player, but everything about his presence in the actual story suggests he's of a not only malicious, but _manipulative_ nature, which recontextualizes said self-presentation as him trying to manipulate specifically the player.
Gaster's overall presentation in Deltaurne is deliberately made to pull a wool over our eyes. Gaster is blatantly supposed to be a malicious force, but thanks to Gaster's in-game dialogue, a majority of the fandom have failed to see past the darkness formed by Gaster's lies.
