Having served on Nimitz as part of the airwing back in the 70's, her maiden Med deployments, she was brand new and and it was quite the experience. I can remember just a couple times we had water over the bow on both my Med deployments and it was quite the ride! The movement of the ship was slow and long and even for her size it rolled alot. I worked on the flight deck as a plane captain in my squadron on the overnight 12 hr shift and didn't see alot going on around us, obviously, but it was certainly something to remember when seas were running high keeping my balance with 8 tie-down chains over my shoulders waitng to recover my plane. That was 45 yrs ago and am still in contact with my buddies, some of the best friends I ever had! A couple have passed away and we don't talk as often as we used to but all the memories are still vivid and alive and I have plenty of pictures to help me along the way. I'm sure I speak for 99 percent of those who served by saying it was the best time of my life and an experience I'd never trade away for anything. AMS2 Robert Johnson VA-35
