I lived in Ipanema in 1972 from January to May. I was 20. My dad was a U.S. foreign service officer working at the consulate in Rio. We lived on the third floor of an apartment building facing the ocean on the street across from the beach. I spent my days getting tan and my nights dancing at the samba schools in preparation for Carnaval! The Cariocas were the friendliest people I had ever known, and I had the best 6 months of my life while there!

speaking english is very common between young ppl in brazil: the language isnt a barrier if you can speak english. and more: most of the places who you might get interested have english signs.
Anyway, why only visiting rio when you can also visit other towns like Florianópolis, Gramado, Porto Seguro, Manaus and Curitiba?

Yo estuve dos veces en río de Janeiro,en el 2015 y 2016.....una ciudad maravillosa,gente amable y cariñosa,muy colorida sus calles y su gente ,una experiencia inolvidable,quede enamorado de esta ciudad......sus calles son tranquilas y muy limpias comparadas con otras ciudades,.,.la recomiendo al mil%.......espero que pronto pase esta pandemia ,para regresar nuevamente y poder seguir disfrutando de esta maravilla.......

Thanks for the tour. The streets in Leblon are more like I remember them - it's a lot of work keeping them nice and they always need maintenance, too. I just love Portuguese and the people are friendly and receptive - well, my wife is in the kitchen and she's Brazilian - love that neighborhood and the beach is amazing.

My favourite place out of the lot. I was a volunteer for the Rio Olympic Games 2016, and what an experience it was. The weather, the beaches, the people, the cerveja. Planning very soon to come back and enjoy the tan :)

@@WannaWalk I used to go to Rio until 2006, when I was flying with VARIG Brazilian airlines. Rio in the 1980s reflects a wonderful decade in Brazil and in the world. In the 90s and 2000s, Rio didn't change to much, the problems were the same. Today we have technology, internet, w zap, so the relationship with the city changes. Today I retired and dont go to Rio, but what I see on TV and know by friends, is that drug trafficking has increased a lot, but a problem that happens worldwide! We had the World Cup and the Olympics in Rio, it was wonderful. But they were buildings with very high prices, corruption, which reflect today. But the city remains beautiful, charming, the beaches, beautiful women, beautiful people, people with good humor and hardworking. Like any big city you need to be careful where you go. Some places in Rio are controlled by drug dealers, But in famous places as Copacabana, Ipanema, Barra, etc is more safe, tourist areas. Sorry about my english...

Lol, then you haven't seen much. I mean, some buildings are great, green streets are also beautiful, but beat up pavement, dirty walls everywhere, trash lying around, ugly ass graffiti.... Sorry, Rio looks amazing from above, but just a regular large city with its problems when walking through. Definitely not "hands down the most beautiful city". You should travel more.

Adoro a zona sul do Rio, é maravilhosa parece uma cidade da Europa, sou de São Paulo mas amo o rio de Janeiro, constantemente viajo para o Rio de Janeiro, e ando muito na zona sul, bom vídeo lindo muito obrigado.
E eu, quando morava no Rio, também adorava ir pra São Paulo. Liberdade, Mooca, entre muitos outros bairros, são um verdadeiro charme!
Mas é muito sujo e bagunçado, se for para parecer com a Europa seria Curitiba a parte nobre dela possui esse ar até o clima.

ppl say brazil is dangereus. but it is only dangereus if you go to where the danger is. Why visiting only Rio when you can visit Florianópolis, Gramado, Porto Seguro, Manaus e Curitiba? There is also so many good places to go in Minas Gerais. Our country is just awesome and we just do not tell foreigners where is the gold we just make advertise about Rio... this is so selfish.

dinamismo, exuberância, muito verde, muita luz do sol, espaços generosos, abundância, muito comércio, beleza arquitetônica , enfim, é uma cidade lindíssima !
O Rio é lindo em paisagens naturais, mas, beleza arquitetônica? A zona sul teve especulação imobiliária já bem antiga; boa parte dos prédios são "caixotes" monótonos e mal cuidados. Neste ponto, acho que o Rio ficou bem atrás de muitas outras cidades brasileiras, que se tornaram bem mais arrojadas.
