Greetings from across the pond. I love to see and I admire the history behind some of these guns and the artists (gunmakers) that are responsible for such beautiful masterpieces. A true delight when you do these kind of videos. I enjoy them immensely. I can spend hours just looking at these beauties and listening to how, when and where they were made. Enjoy the history lesson(s). Wish more people would appreciate what true works of art many of these shotguns really are. Thank you TGS for doing this. Cheers to all!!!

That's amazing John ,my brother Gerald owned one of those (The Finian) he has been meaning to ask you for months if you had ever seen or handled one .
I collected a Lanber Expulsor that I have been looking for a long time, it was what I wanted many years ago when I first got a Lanber. 3 hours in my workshop and it is like new. A bit of 0000 wire wool and oil goes a long way. It looked like it was hardly used but neglected. Viewing ensures you do not bid on a lemon. I think my favourite win in the past was a boxed 45/70 ruger one, which I bought for our shooting club. Now we all get to use it. Great service at Holts.
I could watch and listen to you and Nick as well as Simon etc talk about vintage guns all day and happily not get any work done at all!! Anyway, off to work now so I can actually afford to buy beautiful vintage guns!

The German side by side is a dream it would fit me perfectly being of a height to need a 15 1/4 stock !
I would have liked to have seen the 8 guage I think it was just over your right shoulder I would love to know more about it

That Auguste Francotte boxlock non-ejector may have been made strictly as a presentation piece. "This is what I can do."
Or perhaps it wasn't. Yes, it's beautifully made with exemplary Damascus barrels, beautiful and tasteful engraving with fine finishing touches, all to show the maker's world class skills. It's still a shotgun that can be used and enjoyed as a very fine example of the gunmaker's art.
My very first over and under 12 gauge is a plain Jane boxlock, non-ejector. It fits and I can shoot it with reasonable proficiency. It's still my favourite shotgun. When I go out for the local Ruffed Grouse, it's the gun I always choose even though over the years I have acquired a few much more 'fancy' guns. If I were to acquire that Francotte, I'd take it out for grouse in a heartbeat.

I'm eagerly awaiting a few bargains from the sealed bid on an RFD transfer. I did go on a bit of a "cheeky low ballers" spree. Only really because I had discovered Holts via your channel.
OMG those Francotte barrels are stunning :oO though why would it be less beautiful as a side plate action?

I agree with what Nick Holt said. People have been buying guns like crazy here in the U.S.. And I am talking shotguns not just handguns and rifles. Our problem is the ammo shortage is hurting shooting sports badly.
I hear that alot re ammo shortage in US. Why is that and why has it been going on so long ? Surely the manufacturers would have responded to any increased demand by now....?
@@johngregory8576 I am told it is the shortage of primers. Plus with the country going through a large increase of crime there were estimated seven to eight million new gun owners. Ammo started getting gone early 2020. Shotgun shells are $8 - $10 a box in 12 gauge if you can find any and they limit you most of the time to two boxes. 410 shells are non existent.

Ok J.C. I really wanted to put you on the spot and it took a while to think up this one: For Grouse, Partridge and/or Pheasant, in the UK, would you purchase a pair of Browning B-15 or your recently reviewed E.J. Churchill Hercules? Similar construction theories Browning is Japan - to - Belgium the Churchill is Italy - to - London and discounting the fact that the Brownings are like twice the price of the Churchills. Which pair would you choose / recommend? Thanks in advance
😳 if they were the same price - brownings. But by are not so I would probably lean into the Churchill’s out of the two options

I went clay shooting last night for the second time with a young farmers club. I hit 16 out 25 clays. I was just wondering if you could do a video on how to get into clay shooting. If you have already done one then I will have a look.
