  • In this episode, I start the campervan's Recirculating shower system ( Unlimited hot water shower in a van ), ideally when finished ill be about to have a shower for as long as id like without running out of hot water? living the dream right? this is part 1 building the shower tray, normally not need but I need to raise the shower tray off the ground to keep the drains internal.

    We're planning on building one of these, nice to see someone actually build one instead of saying they have without showing :D

      Yeah I also noticed there are a few videos of people who have them talking about and not many actually showing them being built. Plenty more of this video series to come!

    Seen many videos on the subject, this is the best series so far as it starts with the basics👍

      Thank you, I’m glad you think so. Definitely lots of good video out on the recirculating part itself. But wants to make sure I showed the bigger picture too, like the shower room itself.

    Hi. I had similar issue end up making my own tray out of 18mm playwood and covered with 2 layers of hygienic plastic 3mm each. Top layer set flash with drain plug . Used house drain plug straight out of the van into waste tank. I think if I build again I would never even look for shower tray again. Great videos. Thanks

      I’ve found the shower tray quite good, obviously quite a universal tray but overall happy with the results. I’m undecided if I would do it definitely if I was to do it again

    Really like your vids; especially the way you actually show the detail of how you're doing things and solving problems. Love your shower tray, it's wicked with the multi-outlets. Where did you get it from please? - been looking and can't find one the same online.

    • @MispronouncedAdventures
      @MispronouncedAdventures  Před 3 lety +1

      It’s quite a universal shower tray but getting called “Caravan Shower Tray Compatible with Thetford C400 Range”. having use the shower quite a lot now having to drain holes has been brilliant!

    Loving the build. Will you be using UV light to sterilise your water system

    • @MispronouncedAdventures
      @MispronouncedAdventures  Před 4 lety

      Yes. The grey water will be put though five filters. A 50 Micron spin down filter, follow by 3 10in cartridge filters ( probably 20, 5 & 5 carbon , still deciding on which cartridges ) and finished with a UV filter for sterilisation. Although the water should be “clean” it will never be re-introduced into the freshwater system of the van

    Hey what would you call the reducer part of the shower waste pipe that takes it down to the standard waterpipe size? @21:09

    • @MispronouncedAdventures
      @MispronouncedAdventures  Před 3 lety

      I believe that’s a coupler combined with the standard fitting a washing machine uses to join a 40mm waste pipe

  • @BsYtHandle

    Have you tried roofing battons instead of the more expensive ones you've used here?

    • @MispronouncedAdventures
      @MispronouncedAdventures  Před 2 lety +1

      Most of the sub-floor and sub-wall timber are 38x25mm roof battons. I prefer the 63mmx38 CLS for the structural stuff. However the CLS timber and timber in general is a lot cheaper when I was building the van compared to now

    • @BsYtHandle
      @BsYtHandle Před 2 lety

      @@MispronouncedAdventures could you please say why you preferred the finished timber? I'm trying to understand if there's a good reason not to use roofing batons.

    • @MispronouncedAdventures
      @MispronouncedAdventures  Před 2 lety +1

      Two main reason for me personally. I didn’t like were was still some flex still in the roof battons making stud walls ( Although when it before it was covered with ply over the top that would help a lot more ) and CLS is made for stud work, the pocket hole joints also felt a lot more Secure in 38mm with the long and large screws than they did in the 25mm. and i wanted the 38mm width of the CLS so I could run the plumbing for the shower inside the shower room walls and also some wiring. The 25mm width of the roof batons might of been been a bit tight to run some of the plumbing inside the walls.
      There isn’t a good reason not to use the roof batons as I have seen many use it. But it wouldn’t of worked for me trying to run pipe

    I have watched your recirculating shower build and am keen to take on something similar in my van conversion.
    Can you let me know if this is the order of your components and if you would change the order if you did it again?
    Shower drain, 3 litre holding tank, Pump through heat exchanger to 20 (?) litre tank, Filtration, Pump, Shower head.
    Do you have to run the shower for a long time of the whole system to come up to temperature?
    Thank you
    Richard

    • @MispronouncedAdventures
      @MispronouncedAdventures  Před 2 lety

      Hey sure.
      Shower drain x 2 ( with course Fishtank filter sponge into screen out large debris )-> into tiny holding tank ( potentially not necessary but far easier to combine multiple drains that way ) -> into pump -> spin down filter -> 3 inch cartridge filters -> uv filter -> into hot tank ( any water in the hot tank is being reheated via the heat exchanges on its own separate loop
      Hot tank -> pump -> shower head
      I normally pre-heat Hot tank to 60°, turn it on that then flushes the cold water in the filters back into the hot tank dropping it to around 40, within 30 seconds. Then get in the shower

      5 kW diesel heater for hot air ( using a afterburner controller with it ) and a Bobilvans hot water which uses the diesel heaters hot air and turns it into hot water

    • @MispronouncedAdventures
      @MispronouncedAdventures  Před 3 lety +1

      I found realistically you very rarely are parked exactly level or flat. So one either run just means it drainages if the van is slightly higher at one end of the van than the other

    Where can I get that shower tray from?

    • @MispronouncedAdventures
      @MispronouncedAdventures  Před 3 lety

      It’s pretty common on a range of British campervan conversion websites. Usually under the name of “universal shower tray” or “ Thetford C400 toilet shower tray”.
      Kiravan.com, Jacksonleisure.com, justkamper.com and more all stock in for around the £70 area
