I'm pretty sure there are 2 thunder shot guns cause there is a thunder npc which I have killed and he drops a thunder shotgun.

Exotic is 100% more rare in a duo/ squad game as i think each exotic only spawns once whereas the others come in the numbers of what you’re game size is.
