I especially appreciate the section about protest in voting and how we can show dissatisfaction in ways that have material impacts... to show up and vote against the party we do not want rather than staying home or spoiling ballots. A very powerful message that should be better known!

Great perspective. I need the EFF to become the official opposition, I need them to get at least 20% of votes.
The challenge is that our people do not understand the power they have with their votes, they want to vote for the ANC or nothing while the are other parties like the EFF😉, who assist with their challenges and goals.

The problem I find hear in KZN is that people don't really care about what they are voting for they more focused on who they are voting for... so it becomes difficult to even start talking about it because most of the people perspectives are not wide but very narrow. ... tribalism is also a problem this side

Strategy of the vote....interesting perspective, specially the idea of voting for your "opponent" to hold them accountable. I think Dr Umar Johnson also proposes the same idea in the USA where American Africans are a minority, he make the point of voting as a block (union) for a candidate that will among another things they do in office, is to push your agenda.

Ordinarily in other countries like USA, parties form voting groups like MPC, they vote according to those groups, hence we know The Democrats and The Republicans, their government administration move only between those two because they represent the other parties.
Soooo in South Africa you can have the corrupt grouping of EFF, COPE, ATM, MK, PAC and then you have ANC, GOOD, Al Jamah, the third will be a group of DA, IFP, ActionSA, Rise Mzanzi, FF Plus.

💯 aligned Tessa. Spot on. I am hoping to write a smallanyana piece on this based on the many questions I’ve been getting even from very engaged people re;who to vote for, and like a typical consultant, I thought of 3 points (more like 4) that should guide the voter ~ most of which you’ve mentioned: (i) The idea of the society we ought to be / seek to create, which speaks to the values and the ethical fabric of society ~ so, ideology matters and says a lot about the rest that the party offers; (ii) To your point, ideology is not enough, you need to see the party’s programme of action ~ this speaks to the policy issues you’ve mentioned ~ I would however add that it’s important to also assess the achievability/believability of what is promised ~ exercising common sense + any evidence (where possible); (iii) The people you are voting for ~ the character/stature, their energy and commitment (political will) to act according to what is promised, and ofcourse, track record of delivery (where this does not exist in the public sphere as yet, in other spheres where they’ve led). This would be my 2 cents to what is an epic delivery 👌🏾 of how to dislodge power from concentrated interests back to the citizens/electorate ✊🏾.

If you are black, dark skinned or brown colored, you will vote for the eff because their policies speak to those people, because the other group of people (pink, red and blush, maybe yellow red) does not belong anywhere in afrika.
I personally don't fully agree with the freedom charter on "south africa belonging to red and black" but the eff makes us overstand that peace and economic freedom is a crucial step towards Complete freedom from the Oppressor. because shem, we are being oppressed in all sectors of life.

Tessa has a very strange idea of democracy. This is why she doesnt have much of an idea of the US electoral system... Liek she says, its vote and then the winner becomes president. Im sure she lived there and studied the process for a long time... I wonder why she hasnt helped those poor Amercians. How clueless people are allowed to talk to the public is a clear indication of the decline of the collective intelligence of today's society
