@@TheGuitarGeek the secret mode is cool, I didn’t stumble on that one. I was referring to Mosfet/Fat together with the gain cranked. Very fuzzy/glitching fuzz tones.

Leonardo. I struggle with the sounds of Rats. I need to just buy one and play with it and find some sounds I like. Great video. I love that you open up the pedals and look inside.
If I can offer some advice about rats, it’s this. They have two modes, no matter the version, clone, number of knobs and switches, mosfet, fat, dirty, turbo, germanium, it doesn’t matter. They do a warm boost thing if you turn the gain almost all the way down. It’s a fairly versatile little trick combined with the tone knob. But if the gain gets past 2/10 it just sounds like a rat. Doesn’t matter what you do, it does trebly rat, muffled rat, little rat, big rat. If you don’t like the rat sound, no amount of twiddling will fix that. Save your 40$ and maybe try a big muff? I happen to love rats, both low and high gain but they’re not for everyone and they really only do two things imho. One trick I can tell you is it’s fairly stackable and works great with overdriven amps. So if you find the sound totally intolerable you can completely change it with another drive pedal’s EQ section or by redialing your amp.
Another cracking video. Also, Raphael Edited 3 months later, just grabbed one used locally for $20 USD. It RAT's very well indeed just as I'd expected it to. Accurate demo here.

The only thing that makes these cheaper ones (Joyo Splinter, Little Beat R.Attack) really different from an original Rat, is the fact that at low gain they don't tend to sound like an OD, like the Rat does, but more like a Big Muff on low gain, they sound more like a distortion/fuzz-type effect on low gain. But for the price, you can't beat them, though. Great value, specially when stacked with an original Rat at low gain, for some extra sprinkle of dirt.

They’re kinda harder since they use surface mount parts. It’s still doable, but not for the person who barely got into soldering. The good thing about these cheap pedals is that they clone pedals that have already modded the original pedal. So you don’t really have to mod them, but in some cases to save money they do take out components and you can easily add them back in to unlock more features. The Cuvave clone of the wholly mammoth comes to mind. Instead of the fourth knob they just used a set resistor. You can easily open it up and add a potentiometer to unlock the “pinch” knob. Which controls the famous gating effect.

@@alexcorona yeah this one seems to have a lot of through hole though, joyo has a decent amount of pedals like that. Just finished modding their tube screamer
Red Ralf
michelangeloooooooo :)
What's the frequency, Joyo?
Do you always open the pedals you play? That'd be very nice, sometimes I've just gotten pedals to see what's inside and after that I sell them
Hey, I very often open the pedals. Micro pedals sometimes not... I don't always have the mental strength to put them back together again
@@TheGuitarGeek I'm subscribed anyway, nice to see someone who opens pedals, I like to see the guts, keep doing it!
Hi, is the chip on a socket or is it soldered?
April O' neil keeps them by her side, Casey Jones makes the foot recognize, teenage mutant ninja turtles, heroes in a half shell, turtle power. splinter taught them to be ninja teens, leonardo leads, and donatello does machines, raphael is cool but rude, and michaelangelo is a party dude when the evil shredder attacks, these turtle boys don't cut em no slacks, teenage mutant ninja turtles , heroes in a half shell , turtle power. just in time pizza order is on the way, neutrinos rock and play turtle power is here to stay. teenage mutant ninja turtles , heroes in a half shell, turtle power.
Does this pedal have a LM308 chip in it??
Germanium MOSFET?
What's the frequency Kenneth?
Almost a year now haha
Wow, what an achievement
you look like if howard stern and bill gates had a baby
Is there an Amp Sim output like in their character Series?
No, this is just a regular pedal
@@TheGuitarGeek Thx
I just ordered this and the Oxford Sound. And it's all your fault!
😂 enjoy it!
My favorite was Raphael. He was the asshole of the group and I gravitated lol. All Rats get darker the more you crank them.
This or the Magus Pro????
Raphael btw...
JUST ordered one of these... "Very Ape"! Tone 4, nice!
Yeah! I got some fun out of this ones
@@TheGuitarGeek yeah, I've been a hardcore Nirvana fan since back in the day, so I'm a DS-1 fan, obviously, but I ALWAYS hear people say that Kurt used a DS-1, a DS-2 and a Rat, but I've never seen one on his pedalboard that I can remember... Do you happen to know what he used a rat on and when?
Great video BUT
25 minutes and not once a demonstration of how it interacts with the guitar's volume knob.
Why every single drive pedal demo in youtube seems to ignore that??? It is a very useful information.
There seems to be a very few drive pedals demos that shows that interaction and that is with pedals everybody already know how they behave.
You’re absolutely right.
My favorite turtle is my real turtle, his name is Furtle 😅
3:57 . . . please don't do that 😔
Do what and why not?
@@TheGuitarGeek shake the guitar, my OCD can't handle it!
Lol I'm just teasing.
It's yours do as you wish haha 😄
Great pedal and great video/demo by the way!
I just got mine today and I'm enjoying it a lot!
I've used it as a standard distortion pedal, also as a "fuzz" pedal, also I've "boosted" it with a tubescreamer, and I've also used it as an overdrive itself in front an already dirty amp.
I haven't found a bad sound or a short-coming!
👍
(Although I would like top mounted jacks instead of side mounted but that's the only thing I can even try to complain about)
