ariana and cynthia are both going to crush their roles! they both have such reverence for the origins of this musical while still bringing their own fresh perspectives to the property. everything we've seen so far looks absolutely fantastic

First of all, you guys are adorable. Second, this is a great and thoughtful reaction. So few people have made the observation that you did, of Elphaba essentially being a person of color, and it's shocking that in its 25+ year Broadway history, a black woman has never before played this role!
Thank you for your great comment! After we shot this episode, we also were wondering why there was never a person of color playing Elphaba for the broadway musical. I hope that in the near future, we can see a person of color acting in the role.

Don't listen to them about the book series.... The book is really good (different from the show) !!
I think that if I had read the book first and then seen the show, my opinion would have been different perhaps. I did like that the books delved deeper into the characters than the musical had time to do.
Amber- I read the book a long time ago when I was younger and had different thoughts about the book. I will check out the book again to see if I think differently about the series. Im glad that you enjoyed the book :) (I might talk about what I think when the movie comes out later 2024).
There is another book coming from Gregory Maguire coming in October called Elphie a Wicked Childhood about her younger years

If we didn't have the book, we wouldn't have had the musical.
Never saw Wicked. It should have been in my library of shows, but like Cats, I was not motivated to invest… maybe just to be a part of the conversation 😊

Wicked is way better than Cats. (Cats the musical is really cool when it is on the stage. Wicked the musical is also a really good stage performance)
I'm not an Arianna fan at all (and did they "white wash" her?) unfortunately since Jeff Goldbloom's Hot-ones episode I find him annoying. But it looks good and sounds pretty good. So I will wait while hoping for the best.

Wicked has been completely ruined for me after Ariana slept with that married man.
I will never forget my first experience of seeing the musical and seeing all the beautiful sets and the costume designs, as well as the amazing talented cast. And I had just recently saw it again this past Christmas as I was introducing it to a family friend, so I am so hyped to see this iconic story come to the screen! And ironically the first musical I ever performed was the Wizard of Oz where I played Professor Marvel and the Wizard. 🫧🧹🩷💚
Seeing this musical with the OG cast of Kristen Chenoweth and Edina Menzel is definitely an experience that has stuck with me! I'm really hoping this captures some of that experience for me!
It is such a fun and exciting experience when you get to see a musical in person. The sets and the costumes that they work on are done so well. That is cool that you got to act in a musical of The Wizard of Oz. I bet that must have been a fun thing you got to work on :)
