N.Y.C. Streets Under Quarantine | The New Yorker
Vložit
- čas přidán 6. 04. 2020
- Scenes from a day of weirdness in quarantine in New York City as New Yorkers socially distance to avoid spreading the coronavirus. Times Square, Grand Central Station, subways, and streets appear eerily empty while the residents of the five boroughs have taken shelter at home to curb the outbreak of COVID-19.

This footage deserves to be saved and preserved for the future as historical reference.
duh. there's a lot of that happening bro
I hope they're getting lots of hd footage without people for apocalypse movies
in this Quarantine, i'm planning to watch a movie with my girlfriend. please suggest a good girlfriend.

That saxophone guy is there every day ... even during a global pandemic.

Hearing the sirens day and night during the first few weeks of the pandemic was scary. Seeing the trailers at hospitals was so horrifying. NYC was so quiet, eerily quiet. Going out to do errands like grocery shopping and doing laundry took planning days in advance. We lost so many people.
Sad, but strangely beautiful...
I am legend vibes.
@@walkingintruthknowledge7418 definitely
Ben Marbury Couldn’t agree more.
We are experiencing one of those rare, but inevitable moments in time. We haven't a clue to where this will take us, there was no contingency plan for something so wide spread. God bless yall, stay safe, and become self efficient if not already.
Ben Marbury Just What I was thinking 🤔 today downtown esp. w/o tourists 👍🏻🙏🏻

What?
As a foreigner this looks weird to me.
For those that LIVE there, this must be surreal in the extreme.
Surreal is an understatement, been here all my life and I can say with great certainty that no one ever thought this day would come. NYC life gasping for air...on the brink of economic collapse.
Who knew we would live in a world like this. It feels like we are living in a movie apocalypse, but it's real.
Just the beginning...
Well, sort of real... czcams.com/play/PLGFBuUuyZglMir8caChHkcyyUqKe40uU6.html

And that’s exactly how rapture would feel.

New York City without people doesn’t feels like New York City.

Too many People crowded in one tiny city can be a bad thing. That's why the covid19 cases are so high there.

I said that to my friend last week lmao
I really hope that humanity takes this time off and contemplates about the way we have been living the past few decades. One could think that we are “oh so modern and developed” but it’s only technology that is developed, what about the way of our hearts? and how we think and NOT appreciate everything we have, or don’t have. I wish humanity comes out of quarantine refreshed and with new look on life and this planet. Stay safe
I keep thinking about that...not trying to justify death but searching for some silver linings and realizing that we are still resilient and inventive people, we’ve been numbed out to each other’s humanity. I believe that society is much like a swinging pendulum, we reach an extreme and it’s at that moment we start to swing back towards center.
We got to that far point with being out of tune, lacking empathy, being rat raced to death and this slapped up a wall we couldn’t avoid hitting...people are outside enjoying nature for the first time since the nineties?!
I swear I’m oddly thrilled to hear kids playing outside. I am 42 and over the years I’ve seen kids disappear indoors, nothing could stop it, nothing I thought...but here we are, feeling the effects of being trapped inside so extremely we’ve opted to step outside and look up at the skies.
It can’t hurt us.
I’m sure you’re seeing and hearing all the anecdotes about families actually spending quality time together...it’s beautiful.
We will prevail
Where there’s life there’s hope 🙏🏻
kate carew I’m a teacher and believe me some parents can’t bear their own offsprings. this forced them to see what kind of bad behavior we teachers have to deal with on a daily basis. I hope that we can take this as a second chance and change if not everything then at least somethings.

It’s sad to see this state look this way and we thought it’d never would’ve gotten worse for us, but sadly, it did. I'm 62, I've lived in the English countryside all my life, I can't say I like cities very much, in 2016, I did a guided tour of New England and spent a day in New York, I loved it, was hoping to go back in 2021 for my 40th wedding anniversary, but bloody covid, stay safe New York.
I’m the same way. I grew up and currently reside in rural America. Visiting cities on the occasion is somewhat enjoyable I suppose. I must admit that I find the architectural side of cities beautiful.
When I was in Europe for a brief period of time I adored London. Gatwick airport was also very clean when I went over to your side of the pond.

Watched all these different videos of NYC throughout the decades, its crazy to see how much things changed.
Sirens and background music at the end. Pretty bone-chilling.
Really haunting to come back to this nearly a year later. Feeling the ghosts of panic inside every apartment around them, remembering all that suffering. We’ve finally got a vaccine and half the population won’t take it. Almost 500,000 dead. Cases are triple what they were then and we’ve just gone numb to it. What was this for?
