    Your new photo with the cape is beautiful 😀. Love the links in your info section...followed them...2SilverCats...this could get expensive 😉 an item or two I didn’t know I needed. At least I won’t have to pay HM Customs!!!

      Thank you so much! I've always wanted a beautiful tartan shawl and now I have one! You're in Canada too?

    • @jaybea68
      @jaybea68 Před 6 lety +1

      Ah I would then if she’s based in Canada and comes to the UK for sources. Our Customs duties are high! Nevertheless the capes etc are gorgeous ❤️ What I really “need” is a shawl and maxi kilt!

    Love this! Im still at the stage of cotton flannel from Joann’s 😁. On the skirt, what are the dimensions of each piece? ie is the ungathered width of the tube 3 yds?

    • @Costume_CO
      @Costume_CO  Před 4 lety

      Hi Robin, I will find out!

    • @kristenjones3431
      @kristenjones3431 Před 4 lety

      Generally this will be made to a different widths depending on your body size and type, but all of mine are made with two 3 yard panels stitched together. So the total circumference of the tube before gathering on mine are 6 yards

    • @playsinclay
      @playsinclay Před 4 lety

      Kristen Jones woah! Thats a lot of fabric! Then are you using the width of the yardage for the length of the skirt...if you said it 6 yards of fabric? If you were using authentic 36” wide plaid you’d need much more than 6 yds(?) I’m pretty small, so I could get away with less. BTW, I bought Butterick B4669 for a “corset” bodice that had grommets for the lacing. When you said grommets weren’t period correct, I returned them and used 3mm round “leather” cording and sewed it down each side looping it where the grommets should have been. I’ll cover my stitching with hand woven decorative tape that I made on my back strap tape loom.

    • @kristenjones3431
      @kristenjones3431 Před 4 lety

      @@playsinclay the plaid is much wider than that. It's 56-60 inches on modern looms. I put a double fold hem on the bottom first, then measure up to my desired heights at center front, sides and center back. Then I fold the excess inside and leave it. Then pleat and attach to the front and rear waistbands

    • @playsinclay
      @playsinclay Před 4 lety +1

      Kristen Jones 👍🏻. Good to know that is ok to run the fabric an unconventional way! I’ll figure put whats best for my fabric. Not at all authentic but at a distance looks like coarse linen. It will be fun getting those front and back lengths solo! I plan to just sew a casing at the top and gather with my woven tape, leaving an opening so I can put my pocket underneath... the way my costumer friend taught me.
