    It was so cute how Shapey ran out to his mom when she came to get him but at the same time heartbreaking because she cares so little about him that she didn't even notice he was missing until she reminisced about his bio dad.

    That way she immediately looks toward the doctor when she hears Orel got shot........and then looks away as she's hearing the implication that Clay did it. Like she wasn't expecting anything different. Like she's NUMB to it. She hates Clay too much to spend that time properly worrying about Orel. At least that's what I got from that. It made me both really dislike Bloberta and really pity her at the same time since she clearly cares about Orel but just doesn't care enough because she's too screwed up in her own right to be a better parent.

      Well if you think about it, there really was no one for Blobberta to learn from on how to actually be a parent. Moralton has shown no.good parents, horribly flawed at best and downright abusive at worst. Bloggers herself had a neglectful mother and and a dad who was too scared to even stand up for her. Blobberta never knew how to really be a mom, she just knows some of the platitudes and as much as she cares about Orel, she doesn't know how to separate it from her feelings about Clay.

      Uh he wasn't exactly a "bunny." The seeds for him becoming a monster were always there and they were planted during his childhood. The show clearly establishes that. Bloberta is far from a saint, but the thing she's guilty of regarding her husband is enabling his alcoholism and basically coercing him into the marriage. I cam feel bad for her if I want to. I feel bad for both of them because they're clearly miserable damaged people who don't know any other way to be.

    For anyone who hasn’t noticed; in the previous episode we see Blaberta give Orel a fatty meal, saying the doc recommended it, when in fact, it was herself that saw that poster, and prepared that meal for Orel according to it.
    I think that she does actually care about Orel, at least a whole lot more than Clay, but since she lives with someone like Clay in such a city she has become completely desensitised, and is only in touch with her feelings in small moments. But then again, most of the show is from Orel’s POV, so we don’t really know how she feels most of the time.

      Clay shows love by beating Orel just like his dad did to him in “passing” but as episodes goes by Clay becomes much worse as a human being and stops loving Orel in “Nesting” when Orel stands up against clay and clay refuses to beat him.
      As far as Bloberta, she stops loving Orel in the best Christmass ever episode because she was divorcing clay and left Orel in the cold because she sees Orel as clay. Just my observation.

      @Joe Miguel Clay just barely cares about Orel. The Beforel Orel special showed us he had no real interest in Orel until the town finds out that Orel doesn’t know anything about God or religion and he had left his son at his father’s farm for awhile and saw that Orel had a genuinely great connection to Arthur and Clay grew jealous and angry and started to undo the positive influence Orel had gotten from his grandfather.
      Bloberta on the other hand genuinely does care about Orel and to an extent Shapey as she tends to their needs when they come to her and she tries to give Orel good advice but she is emotionally numbed from years of neglect by her husband and in a way she knows it is her own fault and is part of her punishment for tricking Clay into drinking and marrying her which created a monster.

    • @mizv4043
      @mizv4043 Před 2 lety +56

      I think Bloberta was supremely naive and desperate during the episode help. She just wanted to feel included with the other women and to feel needed by someone. The only example of an alcoholic she had was her father, so she thought that was the way everyone acted when they drank. She thought if she could land a man she would be needed like all the other women and regarded better among them when all she needed was a friend who actually valued her as a person. When youre desperate sometimes you do resort to things to get what you want. Its not right, but thats what it was. Clay could have always said no too, but she was stroking his oedipus complex at certain points. She does show subtle areas where she cares. She could have left block there and forced him to stay, but she chose to keep him, and with orel she does do small things for him. I think the true villains of moralton are not who we think they are. If we were to look back it can be pinpointed to Clay's mother who turned clay into the shit that he is, Blobertas mother who abuse her father and made Bloberta feel worthless in comparison to her siblings, and Coach Stopframe for coaxing clay to cheat and leading Blobera on to the extent of lying to her to impregnate her and then abandoning her with zero remorse.

    Anyone else find the fact that Bloberta uses power tools as toys an extra layer of her own hell? She could probably go to Buried Pleasures and get some proper toys but she would never step foot in there as it would damage her reputation. So instead she buys power tools and uses them just so she can maintain her facade

    I really relate to/feel for Bloberta in this episode. I know what it's like to feel trapped and numb to the point it feels like nothing but mutilating yourself can make you feel grounded. The attention you get from people for it. It's some twisted form of masochism that nobody should have to experience. I may not like Bloberta as a character, but I really just felt her pain in this episode. Clay's an asshole, man.

    Although I've heard it many times, I have never particularly enjoyed or resonated with the song 'No Children' by the Mountain Goats...until now. The context is EVERYTHING. At the intro I fully expected to hear a song different from the usual theme, considering the massive turn with the end of S2, but it took me a full 20 seconds to recognize the song and when I got it my jaw DROPPED. Not only that but the way it abruptly cuts in and out had my jaw on the floor not just the first time but EVERY time, and I can't even say I'm crying right now; I'm just, like, dry heaving sadness if that makes any sense

    People seem conflicted about weather to understand Blobberta as someone who cares or doesn’t care about Orel, and honestly, I think it’s one of the many things the show did right, in terms of showing how things in reality are complicated.
    Like, to me it’s obvious Blobberta cares about Orel. She is also an awful mother. However the thing where she differs from Clay is that, she is in a position where she is ALSO a victim. From both the religious pressures of the town and Clay himself. She cares for Orel, she even cares for Shapey (she actually goes looking for him and expresses distress at the fact that Clay wishes Shapey wasn’t there), however, because she is traumatized, because she is so so so scarred by the pain and misery that is inflicted on her every day, she dissociates from it. She has been abused by everyone she thought she could lean on (represented by the doctor), thus, to cope with it, she pretends to not be there, self harms, and tries to fill her mind with chores and the wish to appear perfect and spotless. That facade, these multiple layers and layers of emotional shielding, that doesn’t leave any space to care for anyone, that doesn’t give space for any emotion at all. And thus, she neglects her children, she loves them, but mentally, it’s like she is not even there.

    • @jefferycrouse4652
      @jefferycrouse4652 Před rokem +1

      Honestly both her and Clay are the victims of their parents and ultimately they are their own abusers. They know they're unhappy but they stay unhappy and abusive to each other because they're terrified of being alone with themselves. And having to stare in their reflections and see just how awful they really are.
      They do in a small way care for their kids but they never should have gotten together and deeply need therapy to work their issues out

    Something to note about this scene.
    This is mostly just me putting two and two together, so let's construct a timeline really quick.
    There's an official script for this show that was never made due to Moral Orel's cancellation, called Narcissism, in this script we can see that Putty is very depressed ever since Florence stopped showing up to church and even stopped being interested in women who weren't Florence completely.
    I believe this scene takes place during it, the Sundays episode is a technical prequel to Narcissism, and this takes place after Sundays, and during the Nature two-parter.
    Probably a little off on the timeline, apologies, but still I think it's neat to see what could have been.
