Czech Steam Motor Railcar - M 124.001 Komarek - Dampftriebwagen - Praha Dejvice

Built in 1904, the preserved steam motor railcar M 124.001 is a real time machine! Fitted with a vertical boiler, just one powered axle and a wooden body, this Austro-Bohemian joint production is fully main line certified and only one of three operational steam-powered railcars in Europe.
The vehicle's design and vertical boiler was produced at the Komarek works in Wien, while the coach body was supplied by Ringhoffer of Prague. In use until 1947, the steam motor railcar spent over half a century as a static exhibit at the Czech National Technical Museum (NTM) in Prague, until it was restored and resteamed in 2005/2006. Since then, M 124.001 has appeared all around the Cezch Republic at public festivals or railway gatherings. This footage was taped in mid September 2020, when this "dream machine" was the star attraction of the annual Railway Day (Den železnice) in Prague. These images were filmed at the Praha-Dejvice station, the oldest railway facilitiy in the city, dating back to 1830.

In Europa gibt es nur drei betriebsfähige Dampftriebwagen. Der "Komarek" mit Holzkasten ist einer davon. Diese attraktive "Zeitmaschine" wurde 1903 bestellt und war ab 1904 bei der Böhmischen Nordbahn im Einsatz in Nordböhmen. Es folgten 12 Jahre von 1906 bis 1918 bei der kkStB. Auch nach 1918 Verblieb der Wagen auf dem Gebiet der neu gegründeten Tschechoslowakei und war noch bis 1947 im Aktivdienst, zuletzt auf der Lokalbahn Dobruška-Opočno. Von 1949 bis 2005 erfolgte die Karriere als statisches Museumsobjekt in Prag, ehe ab 2005 der Wagen wieder aufgearbeitet und in Betrieb genommen wurde, zur Freude von jung und alt.

Actually, the Komarek steam motor railcar has been steaming on the Czech main line since 2006, but it only has a few select events a year, so catching it in action is not automatic.
