the weirdest part about don the vampire is how careful he was with the blood. he used a sterile needle, drew the blood carefully, removed it from the syringe before he drank it, got it from someone he knew and who was as into the whole thing as he was. he even warned viewers that him drinking blood doesn’t mean it’s safe for everyone!

I introduced the show to my students (2nd graders) they love it! They watch everyday for lunch and always scream the theme song lol they even make connections with the educational concepts they teach and what we learn in class! It’s perfect and so nostalgic!

The show pulls you in with their crazy hobbies, and then slaps you in the face with the reality that people are still people, even if they're wacky at a glance. We live in a world where a vampire goes to the grocery store asking for pasta, and we're one step away from not even questioning it.

@@jiaverse I just find it out odd how they were criticizing the first girl because she was on the thicker side (a good body type imo) with too much “jiggle” but criticize the other girl for having a thigh gap. Also the woman judge was just throwing unbelievably low scores at all the females.

As downright weird and freaky the vampire dude was...he didn't seem like a bad guy tbh. I mean when the guy fainted or whatever, he asked someone to get him a soda, in case the guy was dehydrated or whatever he thought, and he *did* tell everyone else not to drink real human blood so....I mean....That's something....My point being it wasn't necessarily what I expected from someone who acts like that and I was surprised by the humanity he displayed, so I thought that was interesting.

yes, the Big Heads show was absolutely horrifying and yes I will have nightmares; but from an artist's point of view? godDAMN that is some great characterization. you know EXACTLY who it is right away and the drama of all of the facial expressions are very on-par with what that style is. it goes way over the top but it's still recognizable, and that's extremely difficult to do. but it doesn't make it less awful to look at

That means that you have a large variety of content (like how PBS has cooking, travel, crafting/art, gardening, dramas, performances, documentaries, nature, kids shows, etc.) and that you heavily rely on sponsors and your patrons for support (which isn't a bad thing).

I watched Mad Mad House when it aired! No one I know remembers that show. I was a little goth kid back then, so I LOVED Don the Vampire, and honestly probably only watched for him. So fun to see a CZcamsr talk about this crazy show!

@@s.t2575 The Popularity of the black eyed peas was comparitively very high in the uk as oppose to some other pop acts, then he appeared as a judge on the voice and a regular on several talk shows/morning shows/variety shows and just gradually cemented his fame to the point where he is recognisable as a mainstream celebrity by a wide range of demographics.
If I had to guess, and this is just my own personal opinion, (I've never actually been to America so take it with a pinch of salt) he's personality and brand of insurmountable enthusiasm is very rare in the uk, he is characteristically un-british, and in that sense he represents a somewhat stereotypical view of an American through British eyes which grants him widespread notoriety as a pop culture reference. I believe he's even been asked to speak on American current affairs before (Trump etc), presumably because his place within the British cultural zeitgeist is so well cemented that when a producer thinks "we need a recognisable american perspective on this" he immediately fits the bill.

Well anyway, vampire turning works differently in every lore. My favorite one is that you have to drink vampire blood to turn into a vampire, which makes a lot of sense.
In some other lores, vampirism is a curse that isn't contagious, but being fully drained would turn you into a ghoul, which is some kind of chicken-craving zombie.

I'd imagine Big Head was cancelled because of all the injuries. When I worked at Disneyland, I worked in the Characters and Imaging department. Barely pulling on those heads hurts so bad. I couldn't imagine running and getting knocked around

Like dude it's not about the individual people being judged it's the entire existence of a show made to push harmful and disturbing body standards. It's contributing to the toxic culture of skinny=good and body dysmorphia so its not only the people on the show who are affected but everyone who has to live in that culture

I remember watching that show when it was on. I was a very self conscious young teen who got bullied for my body my whole life. (Looking back I was very average) and this show has lived rent free in my head since then. The laser pointer and the thigh gap thing was the most prominent moment I always remembered. I hated that show. I always looked at them and thought really bad things about myself. Being a preteen and teenager in the late 90s and early 2000s was insane. I developed anorexia by my late teens and early 20s. It took me a while to get better. But I am better now.

Every time you list the vampires’ names and you end with Thraxx, you always end up saying “anthrax” which is definitely not a very welcoming name when you’re asking people to let you suck their blood lol

I’m upset at how the balloon/cactus dude fell on like 3 cacti, bled on his arm, got covered in dirt and still proceeded with the show.
That whole show was really upsetting. Like, we have a lady getting repeatedly bitten by snakes and sprayed in the face by a skunk. We have rather large snakes and cacti for a guy to wander through while he can hardly see. And even when these people are screaming and crying in pain and fear, we're supposed to... laugh??? Like, I'm sorry, but this isn't your average schadenfreude show. I don't know why anybody would be willing to be humiliated and tortured and actually injured for a bit of money.
