This brings back chills. The Harrier is one of the most difficult planes to fly, period. I was attached to Harrier Support and Maintenance Sqdn in the Corps (MALS-32). I salute all Marine Naval Aviators for the job they still do. They still fly them at my Duty Station - MCAS Cherry Point, NC. Semper Fi to all my Marine brethren and sistren.......
Greetings from a former MALS-16 7011, 3rd MAW, 3rd MAG, MCAS Tustin CA, now Miramar. Semper Fi.
I saw the Harrier while in the Marines while I was driving a jeep out in the field and came around a corner and in an opening not much bigger than the airplane sat a USMC Harrier! This was 1977 and I'd never seen or heard of it and went over and talked with the pilot, a Marine Captain and asked him how the hell he got it there and he said wait about another 10 minutes and I'll show you, then he explained and showed me how it worked and then he got the call to go so I backed off a ways and watch him take off straight up to my amazement!
Thank you for sharing your story with us man i think without cnowing for the harrier i imagene your expresion as seing a alien ship taking of
Its incredible to think that something built in the 60s is so hard to replicate , even nowadays. 3 of the best aircraft ever made came in that decade. The Harrier, Concorde and the Vulcan.
IKR! And the British had a hand in every one of those beauties.
The f22 and f35 are probably the best aircraft in history. I saw them both at an air show, and it was awesome, it was unlike you would ever see before.when the f35 floated in the air and then took off at lightning speeds, and when the f22 roared violently in the skies. It’s the type of thing you wouldn’t wanna see as the enemy
I love how the Harrier is really loud very in VTOL flight yet it's pretty quiet when it fly's like any other plane.
I saw the harrier demo in Traverse City in kayaks about 10 feet from the box and man was that good. I wish it did more passes but I get that hovering burns a lot of fuel, but still. I think it shouldn’t turn away from the crowd for the first two passes. Other than that, it’s pretty awesome to see a harrier at an air show!
Can you still hear?
@@TheEternalUniverse he didn't hear you. You're gonna have to yell louder
Beautiful aircraft, I want it to remain operational for decades and never need to be replaced unnecessarily.
Old, worn out and slow, Brilliant machine but the new Tempest will replace them.
@Pugna. No shit Sherlock
glad to see iconic Harrier still flying. guess those F-35Bs will have to do.
WOW!! IT'S WONDER AV-8B HURRIER MY LOVE! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! СПАСИБО ВАМ БОЛЬШОЕ!
Still stunning!
This is what sexy looks like in the fighter jet 'kingdom.'
Now Yuma is getting 88 F-35's. The Harriers were fantastic aircraft, but now mostly gone.
Best jet ever! 💥😮😎👍🏿
What an amazing Jet, Wow 🇺🇸👍.
Awesome!
Where's the love button?! 😘😘😘💞💞💞
Wow they could fly backwards and stand in 1 spot first time I see so cool
Awesome!🇬🇧🇺🇸
Rob Reider has one of those voices that don’t have to be excessively loud and agressive to be thrilling
Indeed He’s Like no other
Oh I love watching that show 👍
Helicopter without rotor !
SICKENING!
Nice jet.
It doesn't beep when it backs up, so I'm calling OSHA 😂
VMF 214, Boyington's magnific bastards, [as told by themselves. I was stationed there in Yuma [H&HS Sqdrn (Crash Fire Rescue) ] 1996-1999 when I was med retired. and I would go back in a half a Boot Camp heartbeat too!!
That's funny. I was stationed there from 1994-1997. H&HS Squadron.
@@derrickanderson9901 What was your MOS?
I was a cook. I lived in barracks with CFR, barracks 710 I think.
@@derrickanderson9901 I was married so I lived off base, but I did a lot of DNco
They changed from VMF to VMA in late-50s when they transitioned to the A-4 Skyhawks which they flew until the late 80s. Then they transitioned to the AV-8B Night Attack Harriers in the late 80s.
Sweet
Where can I get one?
Didn’t know they still had a demo team for the harrier!
Joe C yeah hearing so much about the Lightening B that I forgot about how cool these still are. USMC must still have a bunch?
80 still combat ready, is all I could find but article is a few years old. Also said they’ll be phased out by 2025? Said their Hornet fleet is hurting so the Harrier is hanging around a bit longer. This was for the USMC anyway.
The air show was at MCAS Yuma and VMA-214 Black Sheep (now VMFA-214 flying the F-35B) is based at Yuma. So, it's not a traveling demo team, it's just a demo flight by pilot/aircraft based at the air station.
رهيب سلاح بريطانيا 😍😍😍😍
I saw that in museum of flight in seattle
Being a fighter pilot has to be the best job in the world!
Except the Harrier is an Attack aircraft, not a fighter aircraft.
Wow
This jet lives in some Argentinas head rent free!
The song SLOW RIDE was appropriate! Just kidding, the harrier is an awesome plane

the jet is flying backwards in 2:19
Is this the only foreign designed aircraft in the US inventory?
I think NASA are still using some modified B57 Canberras as research aircraft, but they have loaned them to the US miitary for use in Afghanistan in recent years.
@@eddiecobbett @TheDisproof Yup, the Air Force used the British-designed B-57 (retired in early 80s) and now NASA.
The US Coast Guard uses the French-designed MH-65 Dolphin helicopter. In the case of the B-57 and MH-65 the airframe is foreign but the engines, avionics and radar were replaced with American made units. However, as of 2004 the MH-65 no longer uses American engines and is currently using French engines. Whereas the Harrier has always used the British Rolls-Royce Pegasus engine because there wasn't an American engine equivalent.
The US Army currently flies the UH-72 helicopter which is also French-designed. It has had French engines since the beginning because the requirement for a certain percentage of American equipment was reduced.
The US Navy/Marine Corps currently fly the T-45 jet trainer which is British-designed - which, like the Harrier, also uses a British Rolls-Royce engine.
There are currently 20+ foreign aircraft types in service with all branches of the US military, but most of the 20 types are small quantities of each. Click the link to see all: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_active_United_States_military_aircraft
At 1:14 the narrator says, "The Harrier has 2 exhaust nozzles behind the wings....". Noooo, it has FOUR exhaust nozzles. And they aren't behind the wing like an F-15, F-16, F/A-18....they are on the side of the fuselage UNDER the wing.
AV-8S/TV-8S Matador In the past, the Thai navy used to be stationed on an aircraft carrier. CVH-911 but now has retired
I am not sure if any of the announcers comments was actually correct. What bold incompetence!
Still operative :- )
Wish they could demo vertical takeoff with the F-35B.
@•F_bash Huh????
The british are geniuses
True lies movie is showwing power of harrier.
Такие самолёты могут делать только англичане и русские..... . Но это в прошлом...... . Жаль, что между ними есть полоса раздела..... .

Only a Leatherneck, can fly a jet like that.
Uh?? The Brits were flying this long before the yanks got any. It's not a Hollywood film. Smh dude.

I hate airshows that blast bullshit music in the background ruining the immersion of witnessing the first true STOVL fighter aircraft in human history.
