    Due to an unshedualed dismounting from a bike on the ride home from work a couple months back I was in the market for a new bike. I had my heart set on the new GT+ as this is a new for 24 model here in the states. I spent a couple weeks hunting one down and rushed over to the dealership to go pick one up, just to get a left over 22 GT. It came down to cost, the GT+ out the door here after tax and fees is $20k where as the 22 GT that was sitting right next to it on the showroom floor was out the door $15k. I love the new features on the GT+ but I love that $5k difference in my bank better.

    I own 2022 Tracer and I’d say this bike is a pure joy. Very well balanced and easy to accessorize. Standard package is already much better than competition. GT+ rises the bar, and those who need all new tech will enjoy the bike for sure. Those who want a great package for reasonable price will for sure enjoy GT. Best engine and chassis in current market from my point of view.

    You have sold me - I was thinking of getting the Suzuki to replace my departed ZX-14, but watching you riding along those roads, and your commentary has me changing my plans now. I knew I didn't need 150hp, and the slightly smaller Tracer 9 is a better fit for me. It certainly has the sporting ride I am looking for, judging by this video. Great job Simon.

    Hi Simon, great review, informative and balanced. I own a 2022 9GT and had 2 previous models. The newer GT engine is a step forward from the previous, more torque and easier access to overtaking power etc. I’ve never been struck by the clocks, as a glasses wearer, I find some of the info a little difficult to focus on whilst on the move. I’ve done over 10,000 miles in the last 12 months on the GT. It’s been round the TT, lapped the Nurburgring, up Stelvio and grossglockner, Assen, Spa, Chimay, Le Mans to name but a few. It’s a fantastic bike. I reckon we’ll try a new one, the radar cruise sounds interesting!

  • @barrykrakovsky756
    @barrykrakovsky756 Před rokem +5

    I own a 2021 GT and it's clear that the GT+ is an improvement. Adaptative radar cruise and braking is an added safety feature. Moving the wheel from the right to the left and changing the wheel to a joystick makes more sense. And the single TFT seems to be what critics of the dual screens want. Still, the fundamental parts of both motorcycles are the same. And this is why I will be keeping my 2021 (16,000) miles and counting. I've sorted out the two problems I had with the stock bike, the windscreen and seat. Thank you for your insightful take on the new bike Mr. Hargreaves.

    Very helpful information presented in an enjoyable way. I hope that this bike comes to the U.S. soon. Given the congestion on many highways (even in Rocky Mountain states) I am inclined to pay extra for the additional technology. It is difficult to avoid some stretches on congested highways when trying to focus on scenic enjoyable back roads.

    I love my 900GT, never been keen on the 9GT, I hate the clocks and dont really like the looks much either. You can keep the radar cruise, I dont want it. Yamaha needs to give us this bike with that TFT for £14k or less and painted a decent colour or my next bike is likely to be the Multistrada 950S.

    I love my 2022 Tracer 9GT! I may have gone for a GT+ for the better screen and radar, but not available in Canada yet. I would love a GT+ just for the dash screen, but the regular GT is already a bike too rich for my blood, so nevermind the GT+. Best I can do is look at used models to get one. There currently is a 2021 GT at a dealer in Ottawa with 15k km on it for $14k that I am eyeing super hard. Only thing is it's over 2.5 hours away from me, so a bit far, but I'm still strongly considering it.

    excellent ! I've been interested in the Tracer 9 GT for a few years now. Still haven't managed to get a test ride !
    Not sure I need the radar stuff, I'm not keen on riding on dual carriageways and motorways , where its likely to be most useful.
    The new dash looks a lot better, a better QS and panniers sound useful. If they found there way on to a standard Tracer 9 GT , I could be completely sold, that is after I manage to get a test ride !

Being honest, I have lost all confidence in rider aids and want to switch the lot off. Adaptive braking and radar fill me with dread. Fantastic revue but, my hang ups are: 15k and rubber brake hoses, the look of most Yamahas are a mess, the assumption that people wanting a touring bike don’t want bright colors? Stick a speed block color scheme on it! Red and white, black and yellow. And for goodness sake, put a tiny bit of thought into the exhaust! I would want to celebrate that wonderful engine with a nice tail pipe.

      Braided brake lines are not essential to function or worth the price out of the gate. Only a concern for 2nd or 3rd owner as the guy who took most of depreciation hit already paid enough for new. Same thing with tail pipe which adds cost and weight. The sound of the motorcycle exhaust as long as it is not harsh or lousy is easily near bottom on my list of must haves. In fact my biggest pet peeves about motorcyclists are the juvenile obsessions needing to be heard. Obnoxious and disrespectful and in particular the loud pipes saves lives is complete mind-dead BS.

    • @Silenti620
      @Silenti620 Před rokem +2

      Please take a ride test on the T9GT on some twistiest that you are familiar with the MT09. Reason I'm stating this: I've done it myself and forgot about the Tracer. It looses a lot of sportiness for not that much more comfort. The MT09SP is a better compromise, especially if you have riding roads near you. The Tracer is way better on the highway of course, but who wants to ride highways anyway?

    Here's a test to check out whether the radar assistance shortens braking distance. Do four maximin stops on a clear track 100k to zero, and take the average stopping distance (my guess is 39 metres) then repeat with a paper wall set up at that distance (to reflect the radar beams) and see if the bike stops before the "wall". No harm done if in fact the radar assistance results in a longer distance, just some torn paper.

    • @writestuffmedia
      @writestuffmedia Před rokem

      Hi Alan - I take your point, but I think the benefit of augmented braking - whether it's ABS or this system - isn't to out-brake practised riders on dry tarmac when then have a defined stopping distance to 'beat'.
      ABS (and this system) is designed primarily to assist during panic braking whilst not interfering with normal braking. Taking ABS to a test track and 'beating' it doesn't prove much. Reducing impact speed by any amount - by slowing the bike in a panic situation instead of losing the front and/or sliding with little deceleration - is more useful.

    Fantastic review Simon! I would be interested in seeing this compared to the Ducati V2S and to hear your thoughts.
    Does the ACC set itself the speed limit for that permitted road? And then adjusts to speed automatically say before hitting road works at a lower speed?

      @@Cycle9568 That's a good shout. Love the 950S. And the V2 - although personally, the lower seat height is a bit too low; but I understand how many more riders will appreciate that.

    • @writestuffmedia
      @writestuffmedia Před rokem +1

      Thanks - yes, that's an interesting comparison. Hmmm... I think the Ducati is the very much more desirable bike in terms of looks, but to get to the Tracer spec you'd need the Travel version, with panniers, which starts at £16.5k... and you wouldn't have radar etc.
      Dynamically, I think the Tracer is more compact and agile, quickshifter is better, the engine... hmmm, they're obviously very different but it's hard to say one is 'better'. I think I prefer the Tracer's triple, but not by much because the Multi's engine is good (and blimey, is it versatile!).
      It's a really tough choice.

    • @writestuffmedia
      @writestuffmedia Před rokem +1

      ..and no, the ACC is manually set. Good idea though - although that starts to get into the territory of controlled speeds! Hate the idea of a bike being electronically limited to the set speed limit!

    I would be very surprised at high sales at that price compared to the competition I have ridden the previous model and then tested the ninja1000sx which I found amazing, and bought the 2022 tourer model and then added more accessories and still didn't spend 15k. Big problem I found on the tracer was wind noise and tubulance, and at 6ft 1 the seat and leg position I found uncomfortable. Must say though I found the handling in twisties good

    As far as the bike goes, I cannot understand the obsession with quick shifters on touring bikes. Where I ride in Queensland, I might ride for two or three hours and not need to change gears except for towns. For my riding, quick shifters are just a unnecessary complication that adds cost. With your riding on the review, bit too crazy for me but it looked like you enjoyed yourself.

    [10:22] You came up behind a truck, just before the traffic lights area. If the bike had decided to brake (when you were not), you would have been annoyed, but it didn't and you were able to safely overtake the truck. So, no controversy there.

      Personally I'd go for the Yamaha - I'm currently running a Tiger 200 Rally Explorer and while I love it, it's a strange kind of love; it's intriguingly imperfect and I have to keep going back to it to understand whether it's me or the bike. Life can be like that sometimes. So maybe it's more of a long-term relationship thing.
