  • Hilo is a place of ancient prophecy, natural disasters and the revival of Hawaiian culture. We go beyond the name of this "wahi pana," or legendary place, and get to know Hilo.

Finally, I saw somebody mention and showed the King Kamehameha stone, which is in front of a public library in Hilo.

Thanks for this video! I lived in Hilo from 1945-1950 and have many memories. I was there for the 1946 tsunami.

Wonderful video and excellent history of Hilo, my hometown. Boy, it brought back many memories! I learned a great many things about Hilo that I was not aware of when growing up and living there. Hilo no ka oe. Thank you for putting this video together. Job well done.

Another great video from you folks at Partners in Development. Hilo to this day has such a special feeling. Is that the voice of the late great Jackie “Honolulu Skylark” Rosetti narrating?

This is absolutely amazing. I am so glad I was was able to view such a great insight to a completely different life style. Growing up in Montana...25 miles east of the Rocky Mountains was very similar to everyone knowing and watching out for others. There truly is a lot to be said of small town up bringing. Thanks for sharing.

Our Hawaiʻi Island correspondent believes that it looks like the bridge in Hilo town over Wailuku River. Hope this was helpful and mahalo for watching!

That's the first bridge mauka from the "Singing Bridge." On the Hilo side it connects to Keawe St, on the Puueo side, to Puueo St. The next bridge up is at Wainaku St, but you have to look closely to see it. The falls you can see are the ones by the hydro plant at Wainaku.
