In this weird and wacky world we live in today , it’s healthy having a hobby like this. It helps my mind hit the reset button. Tomorrow’s not a guarantee! Enjoy today 🤙🤙🏎 thanks for the link to the Tamiya dream tour clip also . It was awesome.

This is a great topic to cover 🙌
A lot of people started out in the 1980s and 90s as RC hobbyists and then began collecting in the 2000s to today.
I collected trading cards as a kid in the 1980s. RC cars were too expensive and difficult to find to collect back then.
In the 2010s I first started to buy kits without the intention to build them. The emergence of the internet, ebay, work income, and nostalgia made this possible.
It feels like we are living in another golden age of RC cars in the 2020s with so many golden age kits available to buy new, NIB, NOS, etc., with more kits appearing every few months.
I wonder will happen the next 10-30 years as the golden age kids get older. RC collectors don’t often give their heirs a good plan to take over their collections ~ I’d love to see more discussion on this topic for RC car collectors.
I have noticed a few unfortunate RC estate sales online by less informed family members or consignment stores. I imagine these will occur more often as we all age.

It’s is another golden age. Interesting about what happens to 30 years time. I guess now is the peak of vintage Rc from the 1980’s. It will be like full size classic cars where as people age then a new generation takes over but they will be looking back at cars from the 2000’s

I saw lot of people online selling boxed stuff for crazy prices since "they had no time" while i basically bashed todeath, upgraded, destroyed every single rc. Collecting is different from palying and building... i belive that with tamiya one should go with the full experience, find a club, have fun and leave the car rest until the next time... that is the healtyest and most rewarding way to enjoy the hobby.

I completely agree with MadBee & Addam, as it can become an unhealthy obsession. I try to keep to my budget, keep it contained within 2 spaces in the apartment / flat (the store room & my study room) and limit the number that I keep. I've managed to sell almost all of my Kyoshos except 2 kits which are still looking for buyers. This will help make room for the Tamiya that I really really want.
The unbuilt stuff that you see that I have in Vlog 001, I was keeping for my retirement so that I wouldn't get bored, if that's a valid reason for collecting. But in fairness if there is a series, I would only try to collect the best in the series (and I try the hardest). If I have the budget I normally want to keep 1 new-in-box and 1 to build. That sounds extreme already I know... but keep in mind, I've been collecting this stuff for close to 20 years so it's a small budget every year spread out through the years.
But then again this hobby is so much better than getting on the booze or gambling / betting on horses etc etc... This hobby is so specific to the person, everyone should enjoy the hobby how they want to if fortunate enough, given the opportunity.
Thanks for liking & sharing my Dream Tamiya Japan Holiday video. The trip to Tamiya HQ was amazing and was super lucky to bump into the great man Mr. Tamiya himself. Meeting him was really a dream come through. It made the day perfect. It still brings a smile to my face thinking back on it. 😊

Can you remember Beatties shops that's where my interest in RC started all them years ago and is still going.. Trouble is the prices for kits is getting stupidly over priced at shops and eBay..... I switched nicotine addiction for rc addiction. The thing I find out every time is that I'll never have enough of this. I thought I own all the kits I desired but within a month I have 3 new kits on my wishlist. And everything you own, also owns you, witch makes it kinda a bittersweet experience. It's like pokemon, you gotta catch them all😂

I am pleased l don't have the money or yes it would become a big problem with me personally!😆
I have a small collection now of just some much loved favourites and some runners as l sold several cars off after hitting money issues! But its seems to have added more clarity to my mind, my hobby and my collection! Big collections you tend to forget what you got anyway unless they are all on display....less is more maybe? You end up focusing more on what you have! Lets face lt we actually forgot what we have when the collection is big and most is away stored somewhere....who am l kidding😆
But seriously it can become a little unhealthy especially if it starts to effective your financial situation! But if money is no object hell why not go for it!
But l do now feel its a shame to have these kits just packed away unless its for investment reasons l surpose!
But generally l do feel we have this need to collect in general its tricky to control for sure! We desperately want something and finally get it then chase the next one not even hardly looking at the last one! I still believe less is more and a top limit to a collection is healthy especially after me personally going from a big ish collection to a smaller one! When money is good now l just get something l know l am very passionate about and l spend time with that kit/car before jumping to the next one! End of the day its all down to what personal position in life you are in and there is no right or wrong just a personal opinion! Yeah Martin l love that vid when l watched it l was like damn enjoyed that!
Nice collection you have Martin but mate don't get carried away 😉😆👍
You only have so many rooms!
    Cheers James

Thanks James. I do sometimes sell cars on to make room, I sold my Avante Black Special, Grasshopper 2 and my TT01 truck. I generally only had one type of each on road chassis. The off road stuff it’s a bit bigger as I do have cars with same chassis just because off road is my favourite ☺️

the fear of missing out isnt really a problem.. even if the car (rere) has gone out of production it always seems to be able to be bought still anyway on places like ebay .. it may just be a little more expensive..
me personally i have a pretty limited period of what i like .. i dont need every single model .. stuff like the rough rider is before my time .. i am from the mid / late 80s period.. the only cars i want(ed) are/were the grasshopper hornet brat frog hotshot fox FAV wild one .. oh and 959 (but tamiya is being stubborn on releasing that one and im not paying $1000+ to own one) ..
i like the last of the realistic looking cars before tamiya went too futuristic and (imo) stupid looking cars like the thunder shot terra scorcher and even the almighty avante .. these cars just look absurd to me, i just dont find them attractive (though i do like the engineering of the chassis on some of them) .. RC cars to me are meant to have some scale realism, and anything after the 80s just fails..
there are only 2 other cars i would consider .. the 40th rc10 .. that car is just so well designed, simple and effective and an a classic (though it doesnt quite do it for me in the same way the 80s tamiyas do)...
the other is the BBX .. the bbx is just about spot on .. combining the best of the cars i love from the 80s..
ill probably get one at some stage and customize it to my tastes..

Thanks for making the video. Very valid question. I guess part of this generation seem to want to revisit the past and manufacturers are granting us a path (with pleasure). As a teenager, when I started in the hobby, occasionally I heard of RC collectors but I could not, in my most harrowing nightmares (back then), imaging that I'd become one.. :-) Oh, well. Some box-art work I adhere to, many I customize, but more so the boxes have piled up, unbuilt. I'd say, enjoy it. With so many offerings nowadays, pick and choose.

It can get a little out of control but I think a lot of it is just having a little kid heart and adult money! LOL! I have spent a small eternity in my youth daydreaming about having so many of these and it has never really gone away so now that I have the means to get some (a lot) of them I have. Yes there is a bit of compulsion to grab the new and cool or the most recent re-re kits as they come out but it is not different that 30 years ago going bananas over the most recent magazine articles and ads of something new and exciting!
    MY three rules are...
    1. Do not make the spouse/significant other angry over them
    2. Stick within your budget
    3. It is better than cocaine or meth so it is not that bad!
