    I am an electronics, instrumentation & automation engineer. Both systems look very capable but I like the apparent simplicity of the Chinese system from what we see here. We need to remember here that these systems are intended to be semi unattended so there will not be an army of technicians on hand to fix things when they go wrong or get broken. Never underestimate the stupidity of the users who will drive in to these systems off to one side, crooked, with parking brakes left off, wheels turned to one side or other..At the end of the day it is not the "perfectly" aligned bog standard operational conditions which will break the system, it is the non standard stuff driven by complete idiots & those people who are intent on scamming the system.

    There was an early version built in Tokyo, it constantly tried to place more than one car in a single spot, sometimes pushing the first one there, out of the parking structure and onto the street (from 6 floors up). They had to demolish the entire parking structure.

    Both of these systems share a fundamental flaw inherent to all current high-capacity automated car parking systems: they only process one car (per car lift) at a time. It takes roughly 2 minutes to take a car from the entrance enclosure, store it and return for the next car, this factor increases as the tower height increases. It will thus take over 2 hours to fill/empty a 60-car tower, excellent for a rental car agency but not an office block where everyone arrives/leaves at the same time. The German system is merely for storage, dispensing cars as the new owners arrive to collect, a purpose for which it is ideal.

  • @christopherbiggs4019
    @christopherbiggs4019 Před 7 lety +71

    The German one is VW AutoStadt not a public car park. There are 4 towers filled with new cars that customers will collect for a factory pickup. Not comparable.

      The German parking has roughly 3 times more capacity of the Chinese one and can park 2 cars at the time, but would be probably too expensive to be dug underground. The Chinese one seems to operate a little faster than the German one. But I agree both are great systems. The underground system is very popular in Japan and it is often integrated to building foundation, which add structural soundness against heart quakes. We had one in our building when I was living in Tokyo.

    I'd like some redundancy, like the German solution but with any elevator capable of serving any parking slot. I can just imagine a whole building unable to go home because the car elevator is out. At least with the German company, only half the building would be trying to get a taxi home.
