I wish the labels KEPT her on massive rotation. To me, she should have been a much bigger star on the Pop and R&B Charts. She was so focused, driven, positive, and her songs off this album was awesome! There's so much we didn't know about Cheryl and her voice is AWESOME!
EXTREMELY underrated vocal talent in my opinion. She is EVERY BIT as good as Patti Labelle and Chaka Khan. And considering this was an older video, she's STILL got it going on today. Just a wonderfully beautiful and powerful voice. Keep using that god given gift honey.
@najbgaj Oh yeah, To Be Real was hugely successful and a classic as well as Shake It Up Tonight, Encore and If This World Were Mine with Luther Vandross.
Agreed. I also sense that she has a lot of humility. Oftentimes in the business, artists are pushed to inflate their ego as if they can't come down from being at a particular top.
Retrorhythms I haven't seen your shared videos in awhile; glad I found you again. And this interview was one I missed so I'm glad you posted it many many thanks
Why does Ms. Carter keep harping on her weight? This is one reason why so many young girls to this day have self esteem issues. All about the image, not that God-given talent that propelled Cheryl into the spotlight in the first place. 😑
@@seanpowell1661 I could have sworn that they did. I did just look at the list - and they did not. Damn, she surely needs one. She had one of the most powerful and ATTRACTIVE voices in history! I still don't know why she gained weight as she got larger in her career and busier, but she is up there on my list of the top singers of all time, and higher than many of the usual names that get mentioned.
@@HardCold-Alquan I agree 100 percent with you ! Rumors has it that, Cheryl was asked years ago but turned the producers down for some apparent reason. The same with Stephanie Mills. However, Cheryl did appear in the Unsung episode on Ray Parker Jr.
She's one in a million musical talent and she's made to feel inadequate about her body!? Shame on world of 1989!! I was obsessed with my body too, all women were back then, it's a little better now with Lizzo and others saying no to body shaming. The huge influence this woman had on house music is undeniable, I got really tuned into her because of DJ Honey Dijon cited her as an influence.
I don't know if she intentionally took that time off. I imagine that she was dropped from the label and had a hard time getting a new deal. Even then, 'Good Time' was only released in the UK and Japan.

many thanks Justin for this great clip! Anything involving Cheryl Lynn is always appreciated ;)
I love to listen to her jams.
I still do too.
The Queen of the Dance 💃 floor!!
First 2mins, the convo was all weight loss😪. Cheryl walked so Lizzo could run. 💖💖💖💖💖 I was born in 89 and I love Cheryl Lynn
Lizzo is a vulgar disgrace. Unlike Lizzo, Cheryl understood that she NEEDED to lose weight.
I remember this interview!!!!!!!!
Loved Good For Me and Whatever It Takes from that album.
Michael Stallworth: "Overworked 'N' Underloved" and "Upset" are both good songs too on that album...

I know, it was a bit much. I think it might have had to do with her being a relatively inexperienced interviewer of musicians at that point.
I am still trying to find her Unsung episode, I missed it.
They haven't did an episode on Cheryl Lynn yet! I hope one day soon..

Idc, she was *still fine* 😇
She was "back" in 1989... and then took another 6 years off afterward.
I don't know if she intentionally took that time off. I imagine that she was dropped from the label and had a hard time getting a new deal. Even then, 'Good Time' was only released in the UK and Japan.
