Hey everyone, it's an absolute honour to have Steve on this channel! What was your favourite story he shared in this interview?
Don't forget that, for the next 24 hours, you can grab TOTO's current keyboardist & vocalist Steve Maggiora's vocal production course at 50% OFF: shorturl.at/qrtU2
I enjoyed this, and my favorite story Steve shared was when he was working with David Foster and YES. Truly amazing progressive Rock talents!
Thank you Warren and thanks Steve for a wonderful interview. My mind is blown! My favorite story was probably Michael Jackson coming in and doing vocals. That must have been
amazing.
Marvellous!@@andrewwilliams8080
Agreed, absolutely marvellous@@davidallenhammond2777
I didn’t know he wrote Human Nature, my bad 😱 Also I like his mindset, he adapted and embraced these ITB days, very cool.
Awesome interview! Met Steve backstage when he was on tour with Toto a few years ago - one of the kindest, nicest, most down to earth people I've ever met.
That's wonderful to hear!
I’m not sure Steve would want to hang with me, but I’d sure love to spend some time with him. What an inspiration he is. Thanks for this, Warren.
Steve Porcaro was the secret weapon of Toto. You will never meet a nicer guy.
Yes, lovely guy
Steve Porcaro, class act. Amazing "not-so-in-your-face" contributions to the Toto sound, synth sound genius. Very interesting personal songwriting voice, great solo album as well!
Thanks ever so much!
Thanks for the great interview. Steve is being very modest when he says he can’t sing. He’s a very good singer.
Yes, very modest indeed!
Legend of a man. Legend of a family. This family produced multiple national treasures. Sadly his brothers and father have already been lost. I've got nothing but love for this man.
Thanks ever so much!
Dick Cavett, Merv Griffin, or Johnny Carson, could not have delivered a better interview. WELL DONE Warren! FANTASTIC interview! You're preserving and documenting music history! Thanks for being so open and honest Steve! I've enjoyed your body of work for my entire life! 🎹
Wow! Thanks ever so much! That really means a lot
I’m blown away by this interview. Thank you Warren from the heart 🙏
Thanks ever so much
Steve you are a gentleman and a scholar. Thanks very much for the great interview
Thank you kindly. Yes, it was a wonderful talk!
That was amazing! Thank you so much!
What a great interview, thank you so much, time flew by without me noticing.
Steve is such an humble gentleman and he conveys such positive vibes far fro mthe ego of some artists. This was genuinely refreshing.
A gem of an interview. Always interesting to hear Steve talk on his career. Thanks for this Warren!!
This is so wonderful! I can never get enough interviews with the Porcaro family.😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Really enjoyed that..I bet this was actually over 2 hrs long. I would have loved listening to the full uncut version.
Another great contribution!!!!! Thanks, Warren! So many great info!
Thanks ever so much
Thank you for a great interview of Steve Porcaro. It was very informative! I subscribed to the channel because, I have been enjoying many of the videos about home recording along with the artist spotlights.
What's up with the likes on this video? It has a lot of views! It was an awesome interview! Steve is a musical treasure with a wealth of knowledge! I was mesmerised with Toto from the very first song I heard in the 70s. I have been a fan since. Every one of the members in the band are a genius in their niche! The session work is phenomenal also! They were involved in so many of the songs I loved through the years! It is mind blowing! ❤
Thanks Warren, great interview.
Thanks ever so much
Bunch of new stuff I did not know before, great interview!
Thanks ever so much
Great interview! Thanks!
Thanks ever so much
This is awesome. Down to earth guy with highest accolades and a story to tell plus a really nice and relaxed interviewer who asks all the right questions and can relate so well. Good job, Warren!
Lovely video and Steve is a great great guy! Thanks PLAP and Steve for all your works
Thanks ever so much
Awesome interview with Steve Porcaro
Excellent interview. Thanks for bringing out interesting material and letting Steve provide such interesting background. Your interviews are like Rick Beato's with respect to focus on what the guest has to offer, which in Steve's case is so rich.
Absolutely amazing as always. Would love to see a follow in the future with some footage of him and how he works on musical works.
Aw shucks! Thanks ever so much
Wow Steve seems to be having a popularity resurgence (deservedly!). Great interview, I love listening to Steve, and watching him play live, he's so animated.
Hugely talented
Fantastic interview!
Thanks ever so much
Such a great interview on both sides! A few years ago I stayed at an airbnb in LA and the owner said Steve lived down the street from him and was a super nice guy. This interview confirms it! What a talent, and from such an early age. Thanks so much for this wonderful interview of a living legend!
Nice interview. Class act 😎
Thanks ever so much
Very insightful interview!!! There are some real golden nuggets there for all of us to take a hold of and put into practice.
Thanks ever so much Tom!
Fantastic interview Warren!
Thank you for your preparation and ability to canvass such a wide array of topics with Steve. The conversation was genuinely engaging and Steve’s recollections were candid and insightful.
Steve has always been my keyboard hero. His career as a member of Toto, pioneering synthesist, composer, studio wiz, and touring keyboardist is legendary.
My favourite part of the interview was Steve reflecting on his career. He had the ability to recognise his niche and pursue it and always welcomed collaboration. Further, his modesty and generosity of spirit, evident in the way he cites others in all his answers, is humbling to see. It’s an inspirational approach to life. 🙏
I had the good fortune to meet Steve (ever so briefly) when Toto toured Australia in 2019. I hope to able to do it again one day.
Thanks again for this interview - it was excellent!
Thanks ever so much for sharing your wonderful experiences
Great interview Warren!
Thanks ever so much
Very interesting and cool interview. Really enjoyed.
Thanks ever so much
Fantastic interview! Amazing career he has had. Thanks!
Thanks ever so much for sharing
Seems those ATCs are kinda my big real Phase Linear speakers, paired with a Class D amp, and you can't get them flatter than that. People saying to me, they sound awful, but they do their job real well. And my reference speakers are Adam Audio with both a sub, also from Adam Audio. They are more colored. But that way you have the best of two worlds. I'm a synth player myself, but I'm not even close to what Steve is doing. Immense respect for what he is doing and done in the past. I'm always excited when you provide multitracks with synths involved. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Great interview Warren, Steve is one of, if not my favourite write of all time. :)
Great Interview, thanks Warren
Glad you enjoyed it
Steve P is a genius. I have met him a few times and the joy of it has been immense. I’d wish someone would dig into his setup during the MIDI days and later on with the software synths.
Steve is a such a synthesizer savant and genius that even synth/keyboard companies asks his experties and consultations in creating different patches, modulations etc back in the day
There has been many good interviews with Steve, this music legend, and many of the topics in this interview have been well documented. Whatever the case I still found it interesting and am always curious to learn what Steve is doing. Well done!
Human Nature, truly one of the greatest songs ever written and recorded.
An amazing song!
Some truly amazing storytelling, so many great life lessons baked in here too
Agreed! Thanks ever so much
So cool !! Thank You for this one !! Biggest fan of Toto here :)
Thanks ever so much
Love listening to Steve! Thanks Warren
Me too! Thanks ever so much
Still to this day I have to explain to people how important this guy was, and is, to music. Absolute legend.
Amazing! Thanks ever so much for sharing
To even sit in a room with a Toto legend would be too much for me. I would never have been as calm as Warren. I cannot put into words what Toto has meant to me and my life in music.
Such a legend and a real pleasure indeed!
10 out of 10 for being one of the few people who pronounces "Moog" correctly!!!
Haha I’ve had it beaten out of me!!
Great, insightful conversation with one of L.A.'s All-Time finest. Thank you yet one more time, Warren.
Absolutely! Thanks ever so much!
That was EPIC!!!
Thanks ever so much
Incredible interview and thank you both for such insight! I couldn't help but notice the Native instruments KB.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Warren, Thank you as always for such quality content and for your unselfish contributions to teaching the music community. Hope you and yours have a wonderful holiday season. Cheers!
@@timothyobrien6165that’s such a lovely comment!! Thanks ever so much
Brother, so great. We’re always in the same wheelhouse when it comes to favorites… Toto and Queen are two of my top tops and well you always knock it out of the park. Thanks soo sooo much.
Amazing! Thanks ever so much for sharing
Agreed! Both great bands
For those who never went to see Toto in the 80s, Steve is an amazing show man which you will not even suspect by watching these interviews. It was hard not to look at him. Toto’s live sound was amazing
A lovely interview. I get the feeling that Steve is a very articulate introvert. I'm about half-way in (32 mins) and I'm wanting to see Steve hands on his synths.. see how he works, so him in his element. Hear what he's doing now... I hope the interview pivots to 'today' rather than the history.
What an incredible array of work. Personal favourite is his keys on MJs Human Nature. That record sounds like actual magic
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
it's good to hear that man be so cool on all of his work. I just love to have one song go top 10 lol thank you warren.
Thanks Dan!
What an interview
All I can say is WOW! What a Legend!
Yes! Truly amazing
How cool! Always new stuff to hear, that I didn't know. Marc Bonilla...he was even in Toy Matinée for a while, together with Sheryl Crow :D Celine Dion? Even I have played with her!
Thanks
Great interview Warren, have you noticed how Steve sounds exactly like your fellow PLAP presenter Joe Caroll? Same voice tone, inflection, very uncanny.
Thanks! Joe has a very southern accent, maybe they have similar pitches?
I mean’t Joe Carrell. Steve was a dead ringer for his voice.
One of the best TOTO album is ISOLATION with the magnificent voice from Freddie Fredriksen....Steve should talk about this masterpiece.
Marvellous! Thanks for sharing
Steve are one of bests synth cats ever. I love his work and feel also a great composer
I'm big fan
Agreed! Huge talent!
One of the greatest musicians of all time, his whole family were genius and we’re the we’re the awesome sound of Toto, great interview very interesting to listen to it
I`ve never seen this kind of in depth interview with Steve. He seems to be really humble and honest guy. I love this guy. The thing ”planets align”, you can`t predict those things. You just do it with passion and the rest will follow. Toto guys had their own slots, I think Steve is crucial part of Toto with synth arrangements (for ex Rosanna,Africa) Steve, Luke, Jeff and David are the core for me. Also love the singers Joseph and Bobby and the all the bassists. Also love Simon Phillips input. The dearest albums for me are Tambu and Falling In Between (no Jeff in there, I know!). I`ve seen Toto live with the new guys in 2022 and loved it!
It took awhile to recognize the guy; he's the man with long black courly hair enthusiasticlly playing on CS 80 in Rossana video. The Toto line up was really something. One pro after another. Today is one boob job done after the ass implants; music for the background noise, haha.
This is good history and interview.
Thanks ever so much
1:05:15 Words of wisdom from both of you 👌🙌
Thanks ever so much
Exceptional interview on a high intellectual level. Magical. D. Foster/Toto - is by definition only the best in the field of music - it can't get any better.
What a great guy!
Agreed 100%!
Awesome
Thanks very much!
As a massive Toto fan, there is absolutely no way I'm going to pass up on watching this! :D
Talent
Absolutely and humility
Master musician,have a great day everybody!❤
Thanks for the great comment!
And yes, agreed 100%!
@@Producelikeapro Thanks for another excellent interview and your excellent taste in music Warren.Happy Christmas to you all!
Happy Christmas!@@cosmicdrifter287
@@Producelikeapro ❤️👍Much appreciated hope you have a fine Christmas as well.I Love Toto and have all their albums up until the end of the 80ies in a cool box -set.a Lot of treasures in there.Bless you all.
Thanks 👍🤩😍🦋🌈👍
Come back to Toto, we just want peace and music! Love Steve!
I have a friend, he knows almost nothing about music but he knows Toto because he's a huge sci-fi and Dune fan. So he likes to send me Africa themed memes since I'm a huge Toto fan because of the actual music :D
Also I remember a couple of years ago at a Toto concert in Budapest, they played short snippets of various songs and if I recall correctly one of them was Human Nature. Of course Steve was introduced by Luke and Steve went in the most theatrical way: "Hiiii, I'm Steeeeve!" :D we all thought it was hilarious.
he has an educational synth video he did in his 20's circulating on the CZcams
Swing Street …great tune 🎼
Marvellous
Wealth of information. Funny, I can't believe how much he reminds me of Tim Pierce.
Great interview
But what is this unreleased song with Michael ?
Amazing
Good question!!
I would love to know too
❤😊
Thanks ever so much
Still using an old Rheem furnace! LOL
I just replaced mine after 30+ years lmao they last forever
would Steve Porcaro consider being a lecturer / professor at a university
hes still a synth geek
I'm pretty sure Toto had arrived on the scene _before_ INXS and U2, though! 😅
Of course, it’s just an analogy he’s using to explain a simple easy to remember name
@Producelikeapro - Ah! Okay 😀
And have a very merry Christmas, you and your PLAP team and all your Loved Ones, Warren!
🎅👍🌲☀️🎵😊
Logic. Good boy.
Haha indeed
No way Steve Porcaro co-wrote 'afraid of love'.
those monitors go down to -20Khz
20 Hz
@@andreirlmeier it was a joke tight butt.
TOTO 1978, U2 Boy 1980, INXS 1980….we wanted the name to be simple like U2 & INXS…huh?
It’s a reference, he’s using well known bands to illustrate his point. U2, INXS have simple and easy to remember names that everyone knows. Doesn’t have to be chronologically correct to illustrate what an easy to remember simple name is.
Gotcha
Marvellous!@@jdfreedom9525
AC/DC
you might need to proofread your CZcams thumbnail?
was about to comment about that. i was a little confused reading "Porcano" instead of Porcaro. lol
You lost me at Michael Jackson…
