    Just got an allotment so have been watching Geoffrey Smith on CZcams.
    As a kid in the 70s I loved his gardening programmes on the TV . My dad enjoyed the brass band music too.
    Sadly missed TV personality.. RIP !

    What a lovely storyteller. Love to hear people passionate about what they were born to do.

    It really angers me how so many gardeners are from different backgrounds, classes but on the BBC they are all middle class. Not just gardening but every aspect of British life. Men like Smith really command respect: humble, talented and nature lovers. I grow up in the country. The gardeners, farmers always understand more than the local aristocrat who owned the lands, gardens. Now we have James Wong with his "exotic" gardening. Old wine in new cups.

      I don't understand (and maybe I've misunderstood your comment) - but wasn't Geoffrey Smith from a middle class background ?

    Sadly, I only recently discovered Geoffrey Smith. From what I see there really are not many on his level now. Very few. I’m thinking...

    Such a pleasure to listen to. Loved the story associated with the Volga boatmen and the way he describes the size of cod and his wife's Yorkshire puddings

    I enjoyed that, thanks for uploading it. I started corresponding with Geoffrey a year or so before he died. I would have liked to have met him. I have the whole of his Favourite Garden series which I have just transferred from VHS to dvd. I will be uploading them to CZcams over the next month or so as they don't seem to appear anywhere and I think it was his best series. Perhaps I have the only copy?

      Thanks for your comment JP, that would be fantastic, perhaps you do, Iv'e certainly never seen it.
      Have you seen his other videos I have posted? They cost a fortune to have transferred from laserdisc but it was a small sacrifice to make to be able to share his knowledge and keep his spirit alive. There's also a couple of videos from an episode of Mr Smith's Fruit Garden that someone kindly posted a few years ago, which I've added to this channels playlist, please let me know when you post your Favourite Garden Series and I will also add to this.
      It's unfortunate that I never got to speak to him myself but he always sounded so enthusiastic and generous with his knowledge and is sorely missed by many.

      Actually I have the whole series of his fruit garden series on VHS I have just realised. I will do the same with that. I will let you know when they are up.

      Brilliant, i've been waiting to see that for years, unfortunately the BBC "lost" most of his programs and appearances on Gardeners World.
      You should add them to here so they're all in the same place and easier to find. Presumably the BBC are OK with it as you haven't monetised any of the videos and filled them with adverts as so many do.

    • @JPinFuerteventura
      @JPinFuerteventura Před 6 lety +3

      I could monetise them but I am sure that they would get a copyright strike straight away by the BBC which then means any ad revenue goes to them rather than the poster. If the BBC have lost them then they don't deserve any money so I wouldn't. You shouldn't be so anti-adverts on CZcams videos though. I monetise my Fuerteventura videos because, as well as taking up lots of time to make and edit, they actually cost me money to make so it is good to at least have help with funding upgrades to cameras etc.

    • @mrsmithsgardenseries6242
      @mrsmithsgardenseries6242  Před 6 lety +3

      I often wondered why they didn't repeat or sell any of his programs to other channels like Living etc, if they've lost them though that's a real shame.
      Unfortunately Geoffrey Smith is rather niche today but I'm sure that those interested enough and looking for his videos will find them wherever they are so don't worry about that.
      I think as a man who spent his life trying to inspire and educate others about gardening he would be rather pleased that people are still interested and watching his videos :)
