    I follow only 2 rules.
    1.) only buy what you love
    2.)pick a lane and stay in it.
    The biggest issue isn’t money, it’s space

      Those are good rules. I normally don’t follow the second as much. I try not to do any mcu… but if something comes out that’s really cool, I’ll take it.

      Thank you so much! We really do try to put a lot of thought into what we're doing. We may not have read every comic in existance or remember exactly every action figure to come out but we love getting on and sharing our thoughts and interacting with everyone. We want it to feel like you sitting in the room listening to friends talk about figures.

    I started out last year with the goal to get ALL the Storm figures to start and complete my collection. I now have almost 60 figures and while I do in fact gave every Storm figure from Marvel Legends, I also have characters I didn't anticipate getting. Still need a Jubilee for my animated X-Men series though.

    • @thestrongcollectors
      @thestrongcollectors  Před měsícem

      That's awesome. I get why some people like to have only one version of a character but I really like the mini collections that can happen inside of a collection like you getting all the Storm figures.

    Another great chat, Strong Collectors
    Here my rules:
    1# Only comics characters from the 60s to late 80s periods.
    2# Not dogmatic. If there's some figures that I like and they don't belong to those periods, I buy it. It works in both ways, I don't buy a comic character that I don't like the figure. It must be a whole.
    I started to collect past summer. I accquired 120 figures aprox. in two months and a half. I saw the latest Hawkeye on a shelve and I thought that it was a great moment to start (high quality sculpts and articulations, lot of essential characters right on my usual shops... On the other hand I searched on the Facebook groups and local apps for some key characters that they were not available anymore. I don't want to remember how much I paid for Kingpin Retro or Galactus 😅

    • @thestrongcollectors
      @thestrongcollectors  Před měsícem

      Those are solid rules. Especially number 2. If a figure looks great I’ll grab it even if I don’t know who it is. Then I get to go find books that have them in it and read new stuff. That’s how I started reading spawn.

    I broke Rule #1 just when I started. It was the Bring On The Bad Guys wave - and I needed it all! It changed my outlook towards collecting forever. Rarely is the bug in my ear screaming for me to buy a complete wave. Rule #2 - collecting action figures is an adult community containing a wealth of info + misinformation. Rule #3 - never ever suck yourself into FOMO. It is very costly, and increases the expense of the hobby exponentially. Rule #4 - I follow your advice on such matters to a great degree of success. I "ebay" my stuff after researching it. Rule #5 - the leaks recently have become extremely accurate and it is great advice. Thanks a lot for these rules guys, I wish I didn't have to experience things the hard way to fully understand the benefit of these rules.

    Trying to become a customizer is really expensive and if you are making figures to fill in spots in your collection next year they will probably release that figure.

    • @thestrongcollectors
      @thestrongcollectors  Před měsícem +1

      That seems to be the slogan of being a customizer. Will you please make a Kashala and pink Ironheart so Hasbro can then put them out

    Strong video fellas!
    Rule 1 is great; having some ground rules like 'complete a team' or 'only comic/mcu' can keep you from losing a lot of funds on filler figures early in collecting. Getting involved with the community (like YT comments!) is a great way to meet other collectors.
    Selling figures you don't enjoy as much anymore is a great way to keep the collection trim and sustain itself! I usually stick to Mercari for selling. It's easy to bank funds on the site to buy other figures without spending more money. Great tips!

    A golden rule i have is that there will ALWAYS be a superior future release of a figure you already own, but upgrading is entirely optional. Just because a better version exists doesnt make the current one any less fun or enjoyable. I have only ONE venom, the king in black winged figure. And since then several superior venoms have been released including the new retro one and venom 2 one but i will never upgrade. Im perfectly happy with my KIB venom as my definitive version of the character. Also, if an alternate costume of your favorite characters releases, dont impulse buy. I love spiderman and have so many alternate suited figures that it took up too much space and i had to sell some of them so be VERY selective of the alternate outfit figures.

    I just started collecting the Marvel Legends MCU/What IF... and X-Men 97' lines in February of this year. 146 figures (including BAFs) later and uh... let's just say I'm glad there is only 1 MCU movie releasing this year and the next wave of 97' isn't slated until next year! And I would have bought more if I could have actually found some of them and they weren't ridiculously priced. So collecting in 2024 has been both a blessing and curse... you couldn't have released this video in January!

    • @thestrongcollectors

      Haha sorry we’re behind for you. Mcu type figures tend to be a little more budget friendly than the comic versions so that’s a plus for your wallet.

    Best advice i could give someone who wants to collect action figures is to only buy figures of characters you really love. Simple really. I went big into legends about 4 years ago, bought the ones i really wanted, but then, the bug gets you. If you have a spiderman, you'll convince yourself you need peter parker, mj, jameson, aunt may etc etc. These were figures i didnt give two hoots about but bought anyways. In the long run, you find yourself with a shelf of 60 marvel legends and you'll only really love 15 of them. So i sold almost everything and only kept the definitive versions of my most beloved characters. Collecting became fun again and wasnt a chore anymore. Being a completionist these days takes up so much time, space and money. It takes over your life. Im so much happier since i cut back. Ultimately, its family and friends over figures, if you can follow that mantra, life is great, and it will make you appreciate the figures you do buy that little bit more.

    • @thestrongcollectors
      @thestrongcollectors  Před měsícem

      That is great advice. You’re totally right that once you get a figure you see a door open to get the supporting characters. That doesn’t mean you need to get them all.

    I'm a 30 years and 3 months Collector, still not sure I know what I'm doing. I am trying to be smarter about New Releases, I only ordered 2 Figures from the Strange Tales Wave, but I spent more Army Building! I am buying extra Shockwave for my NYPD, various Cobra for Cobra, Tracksuit Mafia, even Witcher Ice Giants to use as Frost Giants in my Asgard! I do try to keep Duplicates to a minimum. I have 3 Marvel Earth's, once I get 3 of a Figure I don't buy that Figure again. Even I still end up with extras despite everything. I have 6 Wolverine, I can probably Fudge using 5, throwing 1 into my WW2 Invaders and another into my Exiles Team. So, I will try to sell the extra. I also have some older, way out of date Toy Biz I should get rid of. I also have 6 DC Earth's so that's another challenge. I have an Earth Watchmen, and I have a Superman in Kryptonian uniform, so, my Earth Watchmen has Jor-El on it. LOL. Also has a extra Lex Luthor and Super Friends as Villains since an Earth with a Dr. Manhattan and a Kryptonian would be a little slanted in the favor of the Heroes! LOL

    The good news is that I stopped buying characters/figures that I’m really not interested in simply because I’m bored or they’re available at a great price years ago. The bad news is that there are so many characters/figures coming out now that I really am interested in that the next one is arriving before I’ve had a chance to truly enjoy and appreciate the last one. I keep thinking that the hobby will slow down at some point and then I’ll have plenty of time to spend enjoying my collection, but it’s not showing any signs of slowing down.

    Hey love you guys Chanel been following for a year now! I have a question I hope you guys can please answer.
    So I’m just getting into collecting 2 months ago, and I have all the avengers I need, but now I’m buying the Giant man BAF from toybiz because that’s the one I want I missed the Haslab. I have a guy selling it brand new all 10 figures in package. The cost is no issue btw, 200$ for new, 125$ for used giant man.
    My question is since the figure is almost 20 years old, do you think If I bought the giant man BAF brand new would it give a little more sturdier than a used one, do you think it will last maybe a few years with minimal play before it starts to get loose? Would love for your guys to answer cause I’m not an action figure expert, thanks again fellas, you got a forever subscriber in me!!

    • @thestrongcollectors
      @thestrongcollectors  Před měsícem +2

      Oh that’s an interesting conundrum. I would say one concern of it being new is it hasn’t moved in almost 20 years so I would make sure you heat things up really well if you go that route. With a used one it will probably be loose in some parts but you know the parts have moved. Really with loose figures as long as they can hold the position you want, that’s what matters. Buuut opening an entire wave to assemble a big baf like that would be so fun.
      For me, if I had the money I’d probably go the brand new route just for the fun of opening and assembling. Like I said though, heat things up and don’t forget any movement. Use a hair dryer or hot water.

      I'd agree with this assessment... if money is no problem, buy the wave and put together your brand new BAF, because that's half the fun! (I wish I could have been able to get the PITT BAF, but I missed it completely... my only hope is that Hasbro will reissue that figure in some format, or that I stumble across a REALLY GOOD deal... but I feel like neither of those are likely to happen...😒)
