I haven't edited this comment but I don't want to lose the heart so I'll say it here. Reddit actually posted the full timelapse including the "FUCK SPEZ" at the end. Either the employees were also rebelling or reddit just doesn't care and decided to post it to avoid any backlash
nice move from reddit's part/side, they got bad rep so they brought back something that everyone loves

Development of 2023 r/place was leaked months before the api changes but yeah probabaly still became a motivator for them to push the event out even more
now they are making animations for the timelapse, like the bad apple or an cristiano ronaldo fighting to an bug (it will be on next vid of r/place i think final hours idk)
That's pretty innovative, they should come up with an event like r/place but with the purpose of making a proper animation like a new frame every hour or sum

As someone with 800 total pixels placed between 2 accounts, this event was painful to participate in. It had its moments, but most the time its fighting against bots and giant flags (or giant flags with bots).
The canvas had lesser charm to it because more space is taken by flags since everyone else either didn't participate out of protest or are actively protesting in the canvas (can't blame them, fuck spez).
There were less people playing overall (2 million less than last year). Less streamers this year but somehow they became more annoying, no name Twitch streamer extending their countries' flags with no regards to alliances, to the detriment of the original flag makers and everyone else around them, some even used bots to do so. They announced the end time for some reason, which means botters and griefers waited to snipe the end time to instantly paste their dumb logo on people's shit. It was an unpolished PR stunt, although the giant FUCK SPEZ at the end was hilarious.
Although it was a nice way to send a message I can't help but feel like it would have been better to give the event no attention at all as a form of protest
