Trams Tatra T4/T3 in Leipzig - Halle - Zagreb - Brno in 2023

In 2023 there are still Tatra trams in service in Leipzig. Trains consist of T4D tramcars and NB4 low-floor trailers. T4D means that these trams are derived from the standard T4 type. D stands for Germany (Deutschland) as they have been modified for the requirements of German tram companies. Those Tatra T4D trams that are still in service in Leipzig now have been thoroughly modernized in the late 1990s. The bogies were covered completely. The vehicles are now chopper controlled. So during acceleration and braking you here an electronics-genenerated sound like from modern trams. Normally Tatras are used as long trains consisting of 2 tramcars and 1 trailer. Sometimes you also see trains consisting of 1 tramcar and 1 trailer.
In Halle (Saale), no more T4D are used in regular service in 2023 but the tram museum has vehicles of this type. These are re-reconstructed right to the state in which they were delivered from the factory. They have the original accelerator control. You can hear "clack" when the vehicle starts or ends acceleration. On Open Monuments' Day on September 10, 2023, you could also go for a ride with a heritage T4D. At the heritage trams you can see the bogies well. They are uncovered, like in the state of delivery.
In many East European cities Tatra T4 trams are still in service, e.g. in Zagreb. Zagreb tramcars have accelerator control as well, and so you can hear the typical "clack" frequently. To explain it simplified, the accelerator is an improvement of a classical tram speed controller. The speed levels are, however, not shifted by hand but by an auxiliary motor and there are not only 10 or 15 speed levels but 99. When the driver presses down the accelerator pedal the mechanism shifts up through the 99 speed levels so that the tram accelerates quite smoothly.
T4 tramcars run with original Tatra B4 trailers here,
not with low floor trailers like in Leipzig. Trailers from Zagreb have 1+1 seating arrangement while the tramcar from Halle has 2+1 in most parts.
In Brno in Czech republic T3 tramcars are in use. The main difference compared with T4 is that they are broader - 2,50 meters for T3, 2,20 meters for T4. So T3 look much broader and more massive when seen from the front.

Thank you very much! Yes, I also have been wondering why these Tatras didn't come to Poland. The Comecon agreements stated that GDR was no longer allowed to build trams but had to import them. This led to the situation that trams were declared as "reconstruction" when Reichsbahn workshop Schöneweide produced new 2-axle trams very similar to Gotha trams. Poland, however, could build its own trams, and so Konstal 105/805Na were running in many cities instead of Tatra T3/T4.

Vielen Dank, Robert! Den Fahrschulwagen in Halle gibt es anscheinend noch. Auf der Website der HAVAG ist immer noch das Angebot zu lesen, dort ab Ammendorf selbst zu fahren. Allerdings werden nach wie vor keine Termine angeboten. Vor der Zeit von Corona gab es dort die letzten Termine. Dann wurden aus Gründen des Infektionsschutzes keine Fahrten mehr angeboten. Ich schaue da auch von Zeit zu Zeit nach - mich würde es auch interessieren, einmal selbst Tatra zu fahren. Dir wünsche ich gute Besserung und ein schönes Wochenende. Dirk

One part of the modernization that I wish they had not done was the covering of the trucks with fairings. Personally I prefer to see the trucks, but there is no stopping progress. Thank you very much, Alexander! These Tatra trams are very interesting for me. In my youth I only saw them in Schwerin when we were on the way to my uncle in Berlin. Berlin, however, had no T4 trams in service but many of the so-called Reko trams built at Reichsbahn workshop Schöneweide. But it's great to see Tatra T4 still at work in Leipzig. Zagreb tram company has in plan to withdraw T4B4 Tatras from service. Not now but with time. I'm really sad due this thing. They should be renovated and backed in service. Our T4B4 Tatras are vandalized because there are no cameras inside. Tatra KT4's in Zagreb are modernized and they have cameras and very little of graffiti are inside the KT4 tramcars. You made an excellent with with comparation of T3/T4 Tatras and I'm glad that I have collaborated. Serbus Dirk.
Thank you very much! I think the era of these trams will end sooner or later. Low-floor vehicles are very popular as they are accessible. We do not only have to think of people with wheelchairs. There are more and more elderly persons who have difficulties entering a high-floor tram. But it would be good if some Tatras would remain as tourist trams. When I visit a city, I like to go for a ride in a high-floor tram. You see much more when you sit higher. Thanks for providing clips from Zagreb and Brno!

In my home, also the refurbished KT4 trams were took out of service 2 years ago. I tried to use as much time as possible for filming, riding and watching
last Berlin Tatras. In context to friends and tram mates I looked for unusual routes on the network, visited the tram works and chartered one of the last
Tatras for a special service on my birthday.

Vielen Dank, Brian! Im Frühjahr und Frühsommer habe ich in Leipzig fast keine Tatras mehr gesehen. Ich habe angenommen, dass sie nicht mehr gebraucht wurden, nachdem alle Solaris-Züge in Dienst gegangen sind. Inzwischen kommen aber doch mehrere Tatras wieder zum Einsatz, kürzlich habe ich an einem Morgen 4 Züge innerhalb von 10 Minuten gesehen, das war fast wie vor 3 Jahren! Schöne Grüße. Dirk
@@dirkupnmoor Da sagst du was Dirk! Ich kann mich noch zu gut an das Getümmel vorm HBF erinnern - da sind einem die Tatras ja fast wieder aus den Ohren rausgekommen, so viel war da los...
Ich hab ja noch so ein bisschen die Hoffnung, das die LVB sich Tatras als Reserve zurückhält - so wie eure DT2 damals, die 2005 verabschiedet wurden und dann 2008 wieder auf dem Ring U3 aufgetaucht sind. :)
Da Leipzig so beliebt ist und stetig wächst, stehen die Sterne für die T4D vielleicht garnicht so ungünstig... ;)

Vor einiger Zeit habe ich ein Foto von einem T4 gesehen, darunter stand als Bildunterschrift "Tatra -Fans können dieses Bild hören: Es macht klack."
@@dirkupnmoor ja, ich war voriges Jahr beim Abschied in Dresden dabei! Die Tatras sollten in Dresden nicht mehr das 60igste Einsatzjahr erleben. Meine Mutter hat im damaligen Karl- Marx- Stadt die Inbetriebnahme der ersten Tatra- Bahnen erlebt, kennt noch die Schmalspurlinen 1, 3, 4, 7 und 8. Ich unterdessen kenne nur noch die 1, 3 und 8. Ganz vergessen werde ich dir Tatra nicht, da ich eine Sitzschale mit Sandstreuer mein Eigen nennen kann.

Thank you! Graffiti is always a problem in trailers. It gets a bit better with video cameras, but if people put on a hoodie and sunglasses, they can hardly be identified anyhow.

Tolles Video Dirk wieder Mal in der Ex DDR Zeiten wären sie vorbereitet leider ist bald mit Tatrawegen wenn neue wagen kommen ist ihre Zeit gekommen wo sterben gehen leider wer weiß man nicht wie die neue Fahrzeuge besser ist schade um die alte tenick werden oder schönes Wochenende und komme gut nach Hause zurück
Vielen Dank, Thomas! Der Trend der Zeit geht eben einfach zu Gelenkfahrzeugen, und zu möglichst hohem Niederfluranteil. Die Menschen werden im Schnitt immer älter, da passen Hochflurstraßenbahnen nicht mehr so recht dazu (auch wenn Treppensteigen ja jung und rüstig halten soll …). Schöne Grüße aus Hamburg! Dirk

Vielleicht schaffe ich es irgendwann mal, von Leipzig nach Hamburg über Gotha zu fahren.
11:51 Das heißt der Kontrolleur stand beim Automaten und hat darauf geachtet, ob man auch eine Münze einlegt?
Die Kontrolleure sollen dort auf einer Bank direkt neben oder hinter dem Automaten gesessen haben, so haben es mir Leute aus der DDR erzählt. Natürlich nicht dauernd, sondern stichprobenartig. Ich habe es allerdings öfter gesehen, dass Fahrgäste gleich beim Einsteigen ihre Dauerkarte hochgehalten haben, um eventuellen Kontrolleuren anzuzeigen, dass sie eine Fahrkarte haben.
@@dirkupnmoordas stand bei Monatskarten im Osten sogar drauf.Beim Einstieg unaufgefordert hochhalten.
