Instead, like a good movie, we should let ourselves be lead by our feelings and our emotions, because that will take us to the life we truly want to live. We are truly alive not once we are happy, but once we feel the widest arrange of emotions, from fear, to sadness, to happiness, because like a good movie, feelings are what make us alive. I'm a casual Bible reader but even I understand that Christianity doesn't reject suffering and in fact advocates for it. It makes a clear distinction between worldly suffering and Righteous suffering. Righteous suffering is trial by fire by which we are refined and made pure, as fire is needed to purify gold. It is only through Righteous suffering can we be like Christ, who is our own Ubermensch - our ideal Man incarnate. Esoteric knowledge explains the dualistic nature of life in that we can see envy and admiration are polar opposites of the same pole and where envy breeds contempt and greed, admiration inspires and enlivens. Where envy is the nature of the lower, animalistic man and can only be beneficial to survival, admiration is the order of the Higher Man imbuing us with hope and vitality to ennobles us to seek a higher meaning. The simple fact is Christianity isn't paradoxical; the very nature of life is paradoxical. “We rise by kneeling; we conquer by surrendering; we gain by giving up."
Great Video! Though to be honest, I always felt like the Ubermensch was an idea that Nietzsche abandoned due to the lack of the possibility of such a being occurring. Furthermore, the traits he often described the Ubermensch with were somewhat contradictory at times, which adds to the vagueness of the concept. I do think Nietzsche essentially conceives it as the epitome of the entire "higher man" concept, giving meaning to the "weaker men" as well.
In Beyond Good & Evil, he talks about how misguided it is to operate as if there even are pairs of opposites, when really all things are extremely complex sets of relationships. So If I use that lens and ask myself what meaning/goals in me are my own vs others' (interplay of wills to power), then I have to stop myself and ask what really is the difference? Can I really even separate those two? Why is one better than the other? I think these are big questions that make it difficult for me to rush forward and take the Overman too seriously.
Excellent. I view the striving towards big goals as highly centering to lifes habits, everything falls into place and makes sense; and the simple pleasures as a maintenance to the beings animalistic needs. One is an absolute self guidance and exploration of living with purpose and the other a simpler but necessary enjoyment of now im grateful for this meal etc and recover to focus again. Much like in practicing to master a sport, as any indication of bodily importance our minds best ability is in controlling the body not thinking, but within all evolution of sport are behavioral truths and metaphors to draw ideals from.

Yes, we are "overmen and women", but in another way. We are actually developing as a force in the star system, soon ready to break out (physically and mentally) from our imaginary prison. Modern philosophical anthropology is an incredibly interesting topic imo. In my COMMUNITY section: "The human evolution process, an essay with modern philosophical anthropology as a basis" I reflect on the modern human species and its relation to energy transformation and space exploration. My basic question is, should the modern human species still be called an animal, or is it now (soon) so different concerning its behaviour that it doesn't make sense anymore ? An animal has a brain mainly to control its body functions, a modern human is more and more developing towards a brain in focus which needs a body to survive, air and food. This brain is constructed to not accept total randomness and luck for surviving in the solar system, it can by transforming energy (then being able to deflect medium sized asteroids, survive in severe ice ages etc) and spreading out in the star system, willfully affect its own probability for survival. Then it has abandoned the main principle in the animal world, randomness and luck concerning survival in the long run. There can't, philosophically, be any greater difference than existing or not.

Instead, I find it more likely that a NATURAL thought structure formed in an EVOLUTIONARY way prior to the Big Bang, and willfully transformed (not created) its surrounding forms of energy and itself into a developing physical universe with its physical laws and constants. We can then ourselves now be seen as an extension (a new version of) the Transformer, and now ourselves transform matter into new forms of complementary intelligence (computers, robots etc). Lol how does no one understand Zarathustra's story? Not even Nietzsche? There's an animated infographic of Zoroastrianism and I encourage everyone to go watch it. One day Zarathustra was washing himself and lamenting over how corrupt his society was and if this was all there was to this world when all of a sudden a being which can only be described as a bright spot of energy or light appears to Zarathustra, hovering above the waters he is having a wash in. It identifies itself as the Creator of all things and that all things created were good, but he has a rival that seeks to bring back Creation into chaos, disease, and everything bad. The Zoroastrians called the Creator Ahura Mazda and the evil one Angra Mainyu. Ahura Mazda (God) then tells Zoroaster to not lament though, because Ahura Mazda (God) will be sending a Saoshyant (Literally translated; Savior) for all mankind. Ahura Mazda explains some astrological signs that will occur at the time of the 'Great King's' birth. Thus Zoroastrianism becomes a religion, and lo and behold, they're really good at astronomy. At some point they start recognizing signs in the heavens that were according to the signs foretold by Ahura Mazda. 3 Magi's/Zoroastrians (they are the magi/mages of the real world, the word is derivative from the Zoroastrians) then set out and follow the path of the signs when they stumble upon a manger in the middle of nowhere with a woman giving birth to a child. During Christ's 1000 year-reign the believers now will replace the role of not just earthly kingship, but of principalities and movements of governments like the highest elite, except we will have our glorified body's that will be "like the angels" and we will rule nations with iron rods. Did Nietzche really experience the valleys many others do? He's really good at writing about it, probably saw others who had suffered (and had studies in ppl like Napoleon). But would he see greater meaning in suffering if he had suffered more himself. Seems like it's easy for the larger part of humanity to go from thoughtfulness and anxiety about the meaning of life to not caring anymore. The more you have to grind to make a living, the more busy or the more caught up in materialism the less attuned to consciousness and less thoughtful you may become. Idkb
He was in profound and deep suffering, throughout almost all of his life, and especially during the writing of Zarathustra and the twilight of his life.
His ailments were far beyond just his syphilis. His entire life he suffered from seizures and bloody coughing fits. He’d be bedridden for days at a time. He goes into very gruesome detail on his health in Ecce Homo. His streaks of pain were interrupted by a great bliss when he was healthy.
No WAYYY!!! The Red Dragon!! I was just reading the Thomas Harris novel a couple of months ago. I felt like the main serial killer Dolerhide was a great example of someone who strove to be an Overman (he even has quotes about how he’s a higher man, and an embodiment of a Guess Star and Neutron Star), while also showing the side effect of being extremely competitive and dis functional . The protag is a great foil, as he’s constantly rejected and failing at exuding his masculinity. In the end the metaphor is finalized as Dolerhide disables the protag, and his wife slays Dolerhide instead of him. Great book, kinda gross though 😆
Look closer at Zarathustra. What you say about researches saying living in the moment in addition to a higher purpose is what Nietzsche was also saying. He says “better things have I always done when I learned to enjoy myself more”. So your interpretation is not correct.
When my youngest, my son joined the army, I felt like there was nothing else. I got divorced when my kids were very young. My ex cheated for years and I found out my daughter was not actually mine. I raised her as she were mine since she considered me her father. She didn’t deserve to be abandoned because her mom was a Ho. My kids started off living with her but after a couple years they were living with me. She was as bad a parent as she was a husband. Once they were gone my daughter living in Texas my son in the army and me at home in Philly. I am just waiting for the end. Hoping some days it will come sooner than later. I can’t even get back into my hobbies I had before my kids needed every waking moment, whether it was for school, sports or any of their other activities. The only thing that seems to occupy my mind is dying . I was raised Catholic and went to Catholic school for 12 yrs but lost my faith along the way. Enlightened I guess. Now what? Why am I so obsessed with the end? I’m 52 and ‘my mind thinks I’m 82 and there’s nothing else.
I feel you. I’m only 21 and I think about what I’m going to do the rest of my life a lot. My best suggestion would be to keep a good relationship with your kids and see if you can do anything for them. For me, being close with my mom (my dad passed away) and my siblings is the most important thing because no matter what I’m going through, they’re always in my life. I wish u the best of luck.
Perhaps you need to make the change from camel to lion? Rather than thinking of your life as no longer having any purpose, work on seeing it as being free of former burdens and full of possibility. Allow your own identity to emerge, and give expression to yourself - change what sort of clothes you wear, find an interesting evening-class, try dating (or give up dating for a while), take up a hobby or develop an interest (and commit yourself to getting good at it), read a book you would never have imagined yourself reading (and then another one, and another one), go walking in nice landscapes (do the same walk in different seasons/weather conditions), paint your living room, get a dog (its amazing the people you meet through dog-walking in city parks!), grow a beard (or shave for the first time in 20 years), etc. You'll soon find out the things that you enjoy doing and that make you feel happier.
Don’t believe that certain things are only fit for young men. The way I live and what I strive for, are the same things you should strive for. Capturing love and fighting dragons. You know where beauty is, it’s inescapable in this day and age. And the dragon, is world governments. They will be your enemy so long as you strive for anything above average. I think this is a deeply flawed understanding of the ubermensch. The ubermensch is a result of understanding and living the "eternal recurrence of the same", not some tool to be used. One does not "do" trancendence but rather falls into a transcendant state having no other choice based on the understanding.

What did Nietszche have in mind? I suspect he had in mind the copper haired giant in the short story "Twilight" , by John W. Campbell. What is there to overcome? Biology, social order, conventional thinking, space and time? Perhaps thought itself, or would that be Nietszche's ultimate "nihilism": the abyss that looks back.

Sorry I wrote Linnaeus instead of Lamarck in my previous post, I meant Lamarck. Dog breeders and horse breeders have altered the appearance of dogs and horses for millenia. Their method involved breeding of different lines within a species. It didn't involve genes. Lamarck thought that acquired abilities could be passed down through sex, but not through careful selection of sexual partners (as animal breeders do), but I'm not sure. Lamarck's theory of evolution involved will instead of genes. The difference between Lamarck and eugenicists and dog breeders is that Lamarck emphasized the intrinsic will of the individual. Eugenicists and animal breeders impose "their" will on their subjects to achieve their results. Lamarckians, I think, rely solely on individual intention and improvement to reach a threshold of honing their own offspring's carried abilities. Where Nietszche falls in this debate about the overman comes where? Towards Lamarck I think. Instead of Darwinian Evolution with its geologic pace, Lamarckian self-improvement and its imposed teaching. I don't think Nietszche approved of eugenics - too sexually outre. Modern philosophical anthropology is an incredibly interesting topic imo. In my COMMUNITY section: "The human evolution process, an essay with modern philosophical anthropology as a basis" I reflect on the modern human species and its relation to energy transformation and space exploration. My basic question is, should the modern human species still be called an animal, or is it now (soon) so different concerning its behaviour that it doesn't make sense anymore ?
An animal has a brain mainly to control its body functions, a modern human is more and more developing towards a brain in focus which needs a body to survive, air and food. This brain is constructed to not accept total randomness and luck for surviving in the solar system, it can by transforming energy (then being able to deflect medium sized asteroids, survive in severe ice ages etc) and spreading out in the star system, willfully affect its own probability for survival. Then it has abandoned the main principle in the animal world, randomness and luck concerning survival in the long run. There can't, philosophically, be any greater difference than existing or not.
We are no longer animals, if we ever were. God took out from the loins of Adam's progeny their descendents and they witnessed that they believe in Him.

From my point of view a supernatural being does not, and has not, existed. Instead, I find it more likely that a NATURAL thought structure formed in an EVOLUTIONARY way prior to the Big Bang, and willfully transformed (not created) its surrounding forms of energy and itself into a developing physical universe with its physical laws and constants. We can then ourselves now be seen as an extension (a new version of) the Transformer, and now ourselves transform matter into new forms of complementary intelligence (computers, robots etc). This view on, and explanation of, the development of the universe can be called evolutionary Pandeism (no supernatural entities involved, as in traditional theism, deism and pandeism).
Both our views create a purpose/meaning with our existence, but my Transformer is (was) not perfect as your God is portrayed. And that is what I see around me, a fantastic universe, but not perfect (quite a lot of evil, quite a lot of suffering, a possible asteriod/comet which can kill all human life on earth, etc).

It identifies itself as the Creator of all things and that all things created were good, but he has a rival that seeks to bring back Creation into chaos, disease, and everything bad. The Zoroastrians called the Creator Ahura Mazda and the evil one Angra Mainyu. Ahura Mazda (God) then tells Zoroaster to not lament though, because Ahura Mazda (God) will be sending a Saoshyant (Literally translated; Savior) for all mankind. Ahura Mazda explains some astrological signs that will occur at the time of the 'Great King's' birth. Thus Zoroastrianism becomes a religion, and lo and behold, they're really good at astronomy. At some point they start recognizing signs in the heavens that were according to the signs foretold by Ahura Mazda. 3 Magi's/Zoroastrians (they are the magi/mages of the real world, the word is derivative from the Zoroastrians) then set out and follow the path of the signs when they stumble upon a manger in the middle of nowhere with a woman giving birth to a child. They had brought gifts since this child would be a King, so as to honor and tribute him, because this child, according to Ahura Mazda is the Saoshyant.... Yes, the nativity scene. "What does it mean to overcome the man?" To be an Ubermensch? I suppose. The Bible calls it the believers inheriting the job and position as sons of the Most High because the current ones screwed up and created us a world of garbage and taught us to destroy ourselves more efficiently than we already could on our own. During Christ's 1000 year-reign the believers now will replace the role of not just earthly kingship, but of principalities and movements of governments like the highest elite, except we will have our glorified body's that will be "like the angels" and we will rule nations with iron rods.

Did Nietzche really experience the valleys many others do? He's really good at writing about it, probably saw others who had suffered (and had studies in ppl like Napoleon). But would he see greater meaning in suffering if he had suffered more himself. Seems like it's easy for the larger part of humanity to go from thoughtfulness and anxiety about the meaning of life to not caring anymore.
The more you have to grind to make a living, the more busy or the more caught up in materialism the less attuned to consciousness and less thoughtful you may become. Idkb

He was in profound and deep suffering, throughout almost all of his life, and especially during the writing of Zarathustra and the twilight of his life.
His ailments were far beyond just his syphilis. His entire life he suffered from seizures and bloody coughing fits. He’d be bedridden for days at a time. He goes into very gruesome detail on his health in Ecce Homo.
His streaks of pain were interrupted by a great bliss when he was healthy.

No WAYYY!!! The Red Dragon!! I was just reading the Thomas Harris novel a couple of months ago. I felt like the main serial killer Dolerhide was a great example of someone who strove to be an Overman (he even has quotes about how he’s a higher man, and an embodiment of a Guess Star and Neutron Star), while also showing the side effect of being extremely competitive and dis functional .
The protag is a great foil, as he’s constantly rejected and failing at exuding his masculinity.
In the end the metaphor is finalized as Dolerhide disables the protag, and his wife slays Dolerhide instead of him. Great book, kinda gross though 😆
Look closer at Zarathustra. What you say about researches saying living in the moment in addition to a higher purpose is what Nietzsche was also saying. He says “better things have I always done when I learned to enjoy myself more”. So your interpretation is not correct.

When my youngest, my son joined the army, I felt like there was nothing else. I got divorced when my kids were very young. My ex cheated for years and I found out my daughter was not actually mine. I raised her as she were mine since she considered me her father. She didn’t deserve to be abandoned because her mom was a Ho. My kids started off living with her but after a couple years they were living with me. She was as bad a parent as she was a husband. Once they were gone my daughter living in Texas my son in the army and me at home in Philly. I am just waiting for the end. Hoping some days it will come sooner than later. I can’t even get back into my hobbies I had before my kids needed every waking moment, whether it was for school, sports or any of their other activities. The only thing that seems to occupy my mind is dying . I was raised Catholic and went to Catholic school for 12 yrs but lost my faith along the way. Enlightened I guess. Now what? Why am I so obsessed with the end? I’m 52 and ‘my mind thinks I’m 82 and there’s nothing else.

I feel you. I’m only 21 and I think about what I’m going to do the rest of my life a lot. My best suggestion would be to keep a good relationship with your kids and see if you can do anything for them. For me, being close with my mom (my dad passed away) and my siblings is the most important thing because no matter what I’m going through, they’re always in my life. I wish u the best of luck.
Perhaps you need to make the change from camel to lion? Rather than thinking of your life as no longer having any purpose, work on seeing it as being free of former burdens and full of possibility. Allow your own identity to emerge, and give expression to yourself - change what sort of clothes you wear, find an interesting evening-class, try dating (or give up dating for a while), take up a hobby or develop an interest (and commit yourself to getting good at it), read a book you would never have imagined yourself reading (and then another one, and another one), go walking in nice landscapes (do the same walk in different seasons/weather conditions), paint your living room, get a dog (its amazing the people you meet through dog-walking in city parks!), grow a beard (or shave for the first time in 20 years), etc. You'll soon find out the things that you enjoy doing and that make you feel happier.

Don’t believe that certain things are only fit for young men. The way I live and what I strive for, are the same things you should strive for. Capturing love and fighting dragons. You know where beauty is, it’s inescapable in this day and age. And the dragon, is world governments. They will be your enemy so long as you strive for anything above average.

I think this is a deeply flawed understanding of the ubermensch. The ubermensch is a result of understanding and living the "eternal recurrence of the same", not some tool to be used. One does not "do" trancendence but rather falls into a transcendant state having no other choice based on the understanding.
nietsche revelled in his analysis of the childish religion of Christianity, a simple task that many already knew. However when he tried to move on his analysis of Buddhist thought, a place beyond his capabilities, he seemed to at best to have guesed at the meanings of Buddhist views, something that he was wholefully unable to understand, and worked his egotistical theory thereon. Truly a father of the self centred century that was to follow.

The beginning of the presentation gives an impression akin to Evolution. The overman laughs at man like man laughs at the ape? But as we now know Evolution is based on genes, the "will" has no place in the "science" of biology. So what delusion did Nietszche espouse...Linnaeism? The theory that the will effects our bodies and therefore our offspring bodies?
Certainly man's will has given us science, philosophy, religion, literature. Which would be the sign of Nietszche's Overman, a more intelligent being or a genetically enhanced being? He was born in a time ignorant of genetics, though it believed in something called eugenics.
Who exactly would meet the criteria to be called an Overman? A politician, like Churchill or the "blonde beast" Donald Trump? A thinker like Nikola Tesla or Jennifer Doudna? Certainly not an athlete. What did Nietszche have in mind?
I suspect he had in mind the copper haired giant in the short story "Twilight" , by John W. Campbell.
What is there to overcome? Biology, social order, conventional thinking, space and time? Perhaps thought itself, or would that be Nietszche's ultimate "nihilism": the abyss that looks back.

Dog breeders and horse breeders have altered the appearance of dogs and horses for millenia. Their method involved breeding of different lines within a species. It didn't involve genes.
Lamarck thought that acquired abilities could be passed down through sex, but not through careful selection of sexual partners (as animal breeders do), but I'm not sure. Lamarck's theory of evolution involved will instead of genes.
The difference between Lamarck and eugenicists and dog breeders is that Lamarck emphasized the intrinsic will of the individual. Eugenicists and animal breeders impose "their" will on their subjects to achieve their results. Lamarckians, I think, rely solely on individual intention and improvement to reach a threshold of honing their own offspring's carried abilities.
Where Nietszche falls in this debate about the overman comes where? Towards Lamarck I think. Instead of Darwinian Evolution with its geologic pace, Lamarckian self-improvement and its imposed teaching. I don't think Nietszche approved of eugenics - too sexually outre.
