No one knew what they were- my first dog was a Spitsvir dog out of SA. My second BB was out of SA, also, and was also they same type. Best dogs, ever. Isn't the Boerboel a mix of Bullmastiff, English Mastiff and the local South African Rhodesian Ridgeback? They get their athleticism from the RR and they get there size and strength from the Mastiff in them. Eventually the English people that migrated to South Africa, their Mastiffs died off but not before they passed on some of their DNA to create the Boerboel. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's how I understand their origins. That being said, there shouldn't be anything short about this breed but not the tallest either.
I think u are right. But dont forget the extinct Bullenbeisser(German Bulldog) from the Dutch farmers (boeren)in South Africa. The dogs came from The Netherlands and Germany . The Boxer,Great Dane and the Rottweiler are also related (descendants) to the Bullenbeisser.I also think that the English Mastiff is part of the breed but i think this was done after The second boer war when the Brittish took over Boer republics (South Africa)
Yes some say that some say differently it’s kind of a mistery , on-line you find that info however when talking to experts they will show you different versions however that’s not the point , hundreds and hundreds of generations as passed , we don’t have a mix now it’s a well established breed so it’s one type only
@@EliteBoerboels for sure its one type only i was just giving some info about the origins of the breed.And yes u are right in your video i have a sharpei and with them its even worse .The one i have they call traditional bone mouth sharpei (the good breed) and u have the meath mouth sharpei (the bad breed).I also think dog breeds start to look different because breeders are breeding dogs from all over the world and not 1 breed in 1 local area anymore.Some will breed them for looks some will breed them for companion others for work.Your dogs are one of the best i have seen !
Rui I totally agree, people try to convince people that they have the standard so they can sell their sub standard boerboels, folks don’t fall for it after seeing Rui’s dogs you are ruined I do not see any breeders in the United States that can come close to his boerboels.
You said the Boerboel can run many minutes.... How to then know what is too much for a Boer Boel? Can I for example use my bicycle for an hour in the morning in a normal slow pace, not fast for a dog, but a trotting speed, 16-20 km/h... is this a good start in morning for a Boer Boel? and then focus on strength exercises like pulling or bite work after lunch time... as an example....and then some intelligence training in the evening...
That’s to much my friend , I would do rhe bicycle exercise one day , then the other strength then the other bite work , and will not even push him till 12 month of age , he can handle all that if it is a solid dog like my floki for example but that will hurt his joints to much , like someone said and well for that work it’s a shepherd not a mastiff hope it helped

There is one breed standard. No mention of different "types" in breed standard. Too many dogs today a re bred to look impressive in the showring. No functional performance at all.

I got a pup off of California Catchers. He has a very good, sound male boerboel. In fact, I just had pups and can’t find homes for the little guys. Crappy market right now.
I agree with you to an extent but I have seen some short ones with big heads that are very athletic too. I prefer the tall ones since they are mostly fast and much powerful. Honestly, the short ones can be used as companion dogs but the tall ones are for guarding duties. Most of the in between ones can't guard like the tall ones and can't be better companions like the short ones too so what are they?
Short with big heads are just faults , like skinny and tall with no volume and head is faults , those are not types are just incorrect dogs . A short one can do best as a guard dog that some tall , size is not what define a guard dog temperament is and the breed is loosing is temperament ( not on my kennel we are gaining lol 😂) , my point is ..extremes are just faults not types of boerboels , that’s the argument that people with bad dogs use to camuflage faults on dogs . There is only 1 type of boerboel the correct one , the maximum someone may say is they have a specific line which have special treats like Targus or Afrika line they are very distinct however they have correct dogs but terrier types , bulldog types that don’t exist
Great video. It makes me sick to see so-called 'micro-Boerboels', and Boerboels that are obese and yet called 'big'. My female is 27" at the shoulder, 134lbs. She is that blend of speed and power you speak on, and is still unreal to me when I see her run and play. Another thing.. It is so obvious to see Neapolitan Mastiff in large Black Boerboels. They have the same paws, same dewlaps, same eyes, same forehead, same trunk-type legs and similar movement. They are still amazing dogs, but I feel this takes too much away from the Boerboel look and being.

Not entirely true there are a few d Strains of dogs used in the oritinal foundation of the more modern types that would be boerboels technically. But not like show type. Some of the fanciers of those more primitive strains are trying to establish them into their own breeds or have them recognized as separate strains breed as true strains. But those types are small groups. Ysterbergs would be an example.
Generally we think of it as field (speed) and show (power) and it applies to most every breed to some extent. I'd say Boerboel are actually split between American and other, with American boerboel being notably larger (Americans preference leading to larger in most everything). Also, pretty strange to not talk about black boerboels as that's really the most controversial area of boerboel traits.
American boerboels are just boerboels most bought their dogs 1/2 generations in SA abd they aren’t larger most are just stockier but shorter , a huge share of boerboel owners in America import their dogs actually it’s 60% of my market , there is no American boerboel :) regarding the black that just color it’s not a type it’s just different color my friend 🙏
Kind of agree but disagree at the same time. The Boerboel is supposed to be a balanced dog,, so the diameter of the head should be the height to the top of the withers. When measured in centimeters that should also roughly be the weight of your dog in Kiligrams. So how does this work with taller dogs with narrower heads? I know it definatly doesn't work with the short, big headed, overweight dogs. So IMO if the dog is not in balance, it is out of the breed standard. In your description you say 'Their ears are typically erect but may be cropped for show'....???

@EliteBoerboels And I am telling you that book is ok definitely not the best It's missing so much information but it is an okay book but if you know something about something you know the English Mastiff got introduced to the Boerboel the bullmastiff got introduced to the Boerboel and African Ridgeback introducing these breeds they actually had time to clean it up and make it seem like it wasn't what it was but I have been breeding for a very long time if I'm not mistaken I think I'm actually the first person in US soil to import a Boerboel from sa to the US you cannot say there is only two lines when it is easily proven that there have been other breeds that have gotten introduced to this beautiful breed in the last 20 years ...I can show you pictures from the 60's and 70's where right now the dog looks like a whole different breed don't get me wrong it might be for the better so the whole thing about 2 lines goes out the window and yes that book is ok but there wasn't really no good -Boerboel books- at the time this book came out so people read it and believed it and went about believing every single thing that book said.. So what you said is not 100% accurate.. So there are different lines and within those lines there are different looks.

There are certain types of lines and those lines are different types of looks, making it different types of boerboels... Just look at -Ramkat - your Tarzan-Cabaret Pavarotti -Alexander Black Velvet .. Different types different looks... And no there is nothing wrong with these dogs I just named.
This is the only channel that truly knows about the breed.

A constant hour everyday at that speed is too much for them they are too heavy will put too much strain on joints etc
Thats overkill for a BB. Get a shepherd for what youre wanting.

My 8 month old Boerboels he is 95pounds and have a very large head and is very tough and does not have black mark he have red mark
