  • Why you should never take notes while listening to a lecture. Why Jewish last names usually advertised their owners’ occupations. Yes, a man may be somewhat more than his work, but surprisingly, not as much more as you’d have thought. The activity of work and money-making, influences women’s personalities and identities far less than these things shape men. The real reason that unemployable people are not working; Hint: It’s not because they don’t know how to fix computers or write software. Why their children are utterly uneducable regardless of how much money we spend on teachers and schools. What really happened on 9-11. No, not 2001, but 1683. Explaining Middle-East politics without using words like God or Religion. Why Holland has a stronger economy than Belgium. How to use optimism as a revenue tool. Why the swimsuit industry rejected your rabbi’s job application. The mysterious fifty-year economic cycle in international finance. Why the verb “write” occurs 248 times in the Hebrew Scripture and how you can use that permanent principle to increase your income.

Great lecture. I did not know about Peter Drucker. Also, I enjoy the clarity of your teachings about what is good and bad behaviour. About the comparisons between economies: in the U.S. the largest number of non-public schools are Catholic and its church is the largest non-government provider of health care services in the world.

Speaking of tongue in cheek: You are SO HILARIOUS!! You got me, hook, line and sinker. . . On my third time of listening to this, I am settling down to pondering the wonderful sense of brotherhood exhibited to us, of which you spoke Boy YOU are over-the-top in pulling our legs!! And that's all I will say, I hope I haven't spoiled it for someone else, but I just HAD to comment!!!

To the mystery woman's (wink-wink) buying habits, I would also add that besides buying things "wholesale if possible" -- it gives one a great deal of satisfaction to happen upon an inconspicuous treasure at a thrift store (Yay Goodwill!) or estate sale! Also, Rabbi Lapin, thank you for your validation that it is impossible to do two things well at once. That is an "Emperor's has no clothes" argument. It is time for society to be unshackled from this deleterious concept. As to understanding history, I REALLY appreciated your lesson dealing with the scene in Europe from the years 9/11/683 to 9/11/01. Your oral treatise illustrates why knowing history and the motivations for people's actions empowers us to understand and deal realistically, pragmatically with present-day conflicts. If we deny that, we can't see the gun pointed at us. In addition to your observations on the effects of Catholicism vs. Protestantism on societies, I'd like to note that in Central and South America, the stronger Protestantism is, the stronger the society is, with the standard of living rising noticeably. The Bible (not man-made church doctrine) frees people!!! I was fascinated to hear about Nicolai Kondratiya (how do you spell it?). I would like to read his thoughts, hear his complete story: thank you for the correct spelling of his name. I have one complaint, Rabbi Lapin: your lectures are so ponderous, so multi-textured that I find myself having to listen three or four time before I am satisfied that I have absorbed your content in all its permutations. . . I fear I'm becoming a little obsessive-compulsive!

Northern Italy is Catholic and surrounded by the Catholic France, the Catholic Switzerland and the Catholic and Austria and Catholic Slovenia. It doesn't make border with Germany. And even if it had, southern Germany is Catholic as well.
And guess what, the most industrialised area of Germany is the southern and CATHOLIC Baviera, home of the ultrapowerful Bayer and BMW. Northern and super-protestant Prussia (and its Junkers) was famous for being old-fashioned and feudal even in XXth century.
The richest man in Germany's history (who was richer than, perhaps, even the Rothschilds) was Jakob Fugger.... a southern Catholic Bavarian.
Northern Italy was already industrialised long before the eruption of Protestantism. There you have the almighty medieval Venice and it's commercial and colonial empire, and the medieval Genova and the medieval Milan. So much, that England's version of wall Street is London's LOMBARD Street.
