The godfather of synth,Jean Michel Jarre godfather of techno.
When Jean Michel Jarre made this in his kitchen in Paris in 1976 he hardly had any money. The musician who sits at the back left of him as we face the screen is Domonique Perrier, at Domoniques right hand is an organ called the Melotron. It is a set of magnetic tapes like cassette tape on a rock work reel so each note can only be played for 8 seconds. Each sample had to be recorded separately and then placed under each key, mostly recording of a choir or an orchestra or instrument going through the pentatonic scale. Jarre found one of these for sale in a studio in Paris b and wanted to buy it but he was warned that it only had seven working keys... so he bought it. The seven noted that he had formed the structure of the songs on oxygen, so working with what he had was exactly what he had to do. His doctrine has always been "create boundaries and limits for yourself and always break your habits... it inspires creativity. (I have been to five of his concerts)

Still have the original vinyl. Love 70s electronic music pioneers.
*Wave Potter* Hello from South France,
I discovered JMJ in 1976, and I saw two concerts of him in Paris, the first to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the *Eiffel Tower* and the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution (more than 1 million people), and the second, the following year, 1990, in front of 2.5 million people (the concert is available on YT) at *Paris La Défense.* He was the very first to use scenography by projecting lights, and shapes using lasers and animated images on the facades of monuments and buildings.
But his most famous concert remains the one given in Houston in 1986, remembering the astronauts who died in the explosion of the Discovery shuttle. This concert created monstrous car traffic jams because people stopped their cars on highways, bridges, and avenues to watch a concert like one had never been offered before.
Curiosity kills the cat, lol.
Peace, folks. ☮😉
I remember the first time I heard this album, late night at a party. Already loved synth-pop, and this was next level. Been a fan ever since.
Classic. In the same vein you should check out Yellow Magic Orchestra for 70s/80s Japanese synthwave.
Definitely. Love YMO and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
Todos los equipos, software, forma de editar, grabar, etc... se lo debeis a este tipo de gente y de referentes.
Hello Wave Potter ☺ I have been Jean-Michel Jarre fan since 1987 and still is ☺ I have not all his CD album collection yet, but 20 of his CD albums som far I have in my apartment all original and no copies. I have also couples of DVDs from concerts he have had and 7 JMJ songbooks ☺ I have still some JMJ concerts on VHS tape here in my apartment even though it is years ago since I had a VRC. Jean-Michel Jarre - Paris La Defense I have on VHS tape and on DVD disc ☺
Jean Jean Jean! not a energetic/entertaining LIVE performance but ohhh sooo Beautiful and just pure magic. Along with Mike Oldfield My 2 fav instrumentalists.
Im not a musician really but I had heard this song so many times I was able to make a64 version of just from memory and listening a time or two while working on it.
Thanks for checking this out Wave. There is a Yellow Magic Orchestra (classic synth pop from Japan, very influential) concert at the Tokyo Dome on CZcams that's worth looking at. Synthesizer music was HUGE in Japan and Europe in the seventies and eighties.
Disfruten esa bella piesa musical es historia
Jean michel jarre es un maestro
There is something dark in our existence that constantly threatens our happiness. This doesn't mean denying the mix of dark and light present in all our lives, but trying to understand by looking at our experiences, and trying to ask ourselves a little more of what reality offers us. This is the essence of my musical project, which draws its inspiration from the immense music of Jean-Michel André Jarre
your kidding me mt ya never heard it before.
cheers guys, i was gob smacked when he said that.
You might not have seen the stage during his shows, but you would see the light show and fireworks, covering huge buildings or complete skylines. Paris - La Defense, Houston, Moscow, Gizeh Pyramids or Forbidden City in China, just to name a few,
There was no electronica as you say until this guy and a few other,s invented it. I think some of your comments are ill conceived.
The Mel Gibson movie Gallipolli brought me here. The used one of the songs versions in a war scene.
The melody for this track (Oxygene Part IV) was adapted from a tune called Popcorn by Hot Butter. Check it out.
I actually listened to that earlier today. I was born in 1964 and loved all this stuff gowing up, still do. Used to borrow my dad's stereo headphones when he was at work (we weren't supposed to touch them!)
Absolutely Not !
Popcorn was written by Gershon Kingsley in 1969.
Then remade by Hot Butter in 1972.
Oxygen wasn't released until 1976.
The only connection is the Moog Synthesizer used by both.
It was not. Get your facts straight.
Jean Michel Jarre is son of Maurice Jarre, music score composer, e.g. "Dr. Zivago".
I saw JMJ live decades ago - really stunning performance. The most interesting albums in my opinion are "Zoolook" and "China Concerts"
Brilliant Musician

People are so ignorant. U2🤣
A bit sad to see that his music which has meant so much for people back then is just being met with giggles and condescension by the content creator.
What was condescending about this? You're the one being condescending by thinking there's a wrong way to enjoy music.
@@WavePotter But you didn't enjoy the music, did you? You never really listened, you constantly talked with your co-host, and all you seemed to care about were some technical issues. i.e. back then vs today.
But you never really listened. Did you?
