The wheels look awesome.
Two tips:
If you use an impact gun you don't need to loosen the lugs on the ground, you can do it in the air.
Also if you lift the truck just a small distance from the ground you don't have to lift the heavy wheels as high.
should you add new loctite? 3:38
Powdermonkey99
I have never used Loctite, but nearly all cars in Germany use wheel bolts instead of lug nuts, so maybe there is a difference. You certainly don't need Loctite on wheel bolts and I think you don't necessarily need to use Loctite with lug nuts, but I'm not 100% sure with lug nuts.
As far as I’ve known loctite damages the studs when trying to take a lugnut back off. I sure don’t miss doing maintenance on big ass diesel trucks and duellies. That shit was quite a strain on the back having trucks 4 1/2 feet in the air. Glad I only do my own vehicle maintenance now and got out of working in automotive industry.
Loctite or any type of thread locker, anti seize, etc. SHOULD NOT be used on lug nuts. It changes the coefficient of friction between the lug nut and the stud. It’s a good way to end up with overtorqued lug nuts since your torque wrench will read a lower torque value due to the reduced friction from the loctite etc. If you torque the lugs nuts to spec on dry studs, you should be fine. Just remember to retorque after some driving and then you should have zero concern of anything loosening up. FYI. There are calculations that will allow you to find the modified torque value needed based on the type of thread locker etc. used, but the lug nuts aren’t worth that.
yep, I have never used anything on lug nuts or studs. And I always just zip the nuts off in the air with the impact. Break them on the ground if you have to use a breaker bar. And this is from 20+ years and probably hundreds of times removing and putting wheels back on my cars.
If you're using an impact you don't have to break the lugs on the ground, that's just so the wheel doesn't spin when you're using a breaker bar.
I literally fell out of my chair laughing when you tried to put on that first wheel. Great vid, Matt!
That's why I leave this stuff in. This is how stuff like this goes. I've never removed a truck wheel/tire in my life.
Obsessed Garage seemingly simple jobs and learning curves , dontcha just love 'em . Looks a beast
Obsessed Garage did wheels not come with hubrings?
@@ObsessedGarage
I purchased a Gaither wheel dolly for lifting and mounting the wheels. It's heavy duty.
"Lets be a little smarter about this" Goes and gets loads of bits of wood......... JUST LOWER THE LIFT FOR CRYING OUT MAN!!!! LoL
Then the rear wheels would be touching the ground.
Obsessed Garage so you'd do the fronts first then lifted it to do the rears? That's the way id have done it anyway.
like you've never over analyzed a situation and then were like the hell am i doing..cut the dude a break he couldve edited that part out but didnt... screams honest dude
Obsessed Garage
Put the that wheel and tire on a scale let’s see how much it weight? I’m guessing over 100lbs easily
lol
I was actually laughing out loud when you made the comment about truck guys laughing their faces off, but only because I've been there! Great stuff!
Never seen someone make changing wheels look so hard. What a project you made that.
HUGE improvement. Seeing someone else struggle trying to put a truck wheel on make me feel better about myself :-)
Easiest way to to lift wheels on to the hub is to sit on the stool and stand the wheel up in front of you. Grab the lower spoke and then wedge your feet under the tire. As you lift the wheel to the hub, wedge your foot farther under the tire and then lift with your feet as well. Much easier than any other way I've tried.
Gregory Veizades That's how I do it, but once you get up to 35" tires+ nothing works well. You just don't have enough levridge at that angle.
So I guess I wasn’t the only one yelling at the screen; “lower the lift!!”
Also, put some tape on the hex of the lug adapter, that way it will stay in the socket and won’t drop and potentially damage your wheels.
OMG the first tire I about died laughing!
Love the honesty man when you talked about filming wheel 2 first... your a stand up dude speaks a lot about your character... wheels look awesome nice job
I went with some black nylon bolts to replace the zinc hardware. Looks great, very subtle change but it can definitely set you apart from the other fake beadlockers out there.
This was painful to watch.
H&P Customs why?
Listening to this guy talk is like watching paint dry
I’m a Ford technician and the way you “reset” the tpms isn’t correct. The correct way is to put the truck into training mode. The way you do this is cycle the key on/off 3 times (don’t turn the truck on, should be key on engine off) and press the brake, and you keep doing this until the truck honks and there will be a message on the dash saying “Train left front tire”. The truck is now in training mode and will learn whatever psi your tires are at. The info you had on pointing the tool at the tpms is correct, but since the truck wasn’t in training mode it did nothing. If the truck was in training mode the truck would honk whenever you reset the tpms on each wheel. Sorry for the long comment (my first comment as well). Love the vids and looking forward to all your new ones!
That makes sense as the TPMS read 37 PSI for about 5 miles, then jumped to nearly 70. I should have check the pressures. Tire Rack must send them over aired for shipping.
Finally, someone with patient counsel in helping those that are trying to DYI their vechicles. I appreciate your time and instruction Mikey Moto!
my back hurts after watching you. The struggle is real.
Looking great! I remember the first time I put a big tire on a truck.. it liked to kill me! You're not alone in your struggles Mat!
Credit for not editing this. It is what it is. He's learning!
It's the funniest tires change I've ever seen 🤣🤣🤣
Sorry Matt but I did laugh at you when you tried to put the wheels on.
2015+ F150 dont need to learn TPMS. They'll automatically detect the sensors within like 15 miles of driving. You can also turn the ignition to accessory mode, hit the hazard switch on and off 3 times (press 6 times) and it'll go into learn mode, then you just release pressure from the tires one at a time until you hear a honk after each wheel.
liked it because you left the outtakes during the wheel install haha we're all human and I always make sure to show my flaws and and mess ups on the daily haha keep up the great work brother !!
Bingo
Wheels and tires look great man. They change the look 110%.for the better.
Thanks!
Looks AWESOME ! perfect offset
I am a car guy and I want this truck. I think the Raptor does a good job of being sporty truck without trying to be a sports car.
Agreed.
I purchased a Gaither wheel dolly for moving and mounting the wheels. It's heavy duty and works great with the rollers mounted to the outer most holes and with the tire sitting about 3 inches away from the rear rollers.
We have all had our moments in mechanical foolishness, Matt just films his.
Bingo.
FYI: I'd use some Jack stands with scissor lift for added stability and safety. That's what I do when use them(don't own set of my own, cuz expensive. But use when need to). I'd feel little better for you if had some stands, & or hydraulic jack lift in front & or back of vehicle as well, if you feel weight limit is being reached, or you feel unsafe in trusting scissor lifts. Hope this helps. Great vid. Cheers, A
You dont need to break the lugs on the ground if you have a impact, you only have to do that so if you use a breaker bar the wheel doesnt move
Use your feet to pick up the tire and mount . Just barely lift the truck off the ground and you will save your back etc.
Rear is lower than the front.
One at a time Matt
Very good advice.
Yes, the Method wheels look much better than the factory girly-man wheels. I have a built Jeep Wrangler with a 6 inch lift that is built for serious off-road, and I presently have 35 inch BFG KM2's. When I change out/rotate wheels, I use the following method:
First, I jack up the vehicle so tires is only about 1-2 inches clearance above the ground.
Then once ready to install the wheel, I rotate the truck wheel hub so as to position a lug bolt at the 12 o'clock position. I then position the wheel up against the hub also "clocked" with a lug hole also at the 12 o'clock position.
I then sit on the floor facing the wheel and position my right foot at the 5 o'clock position next to the tire tread, and my left foot at the 7 o'clock position, I pivot on my feet on the ground with my heels and lift the wheel with my feet.
I then position the wheel on the hub and install the lug nuts.
It's surprising how much strength there is in one's feet/ankle, I can easily raise the wheel enough so I can position the wheel into the lug nuts and begin to install the lug nuts.
Hope this makes sense, it eliminates having to use your back for lifting a 100 lb wheel then trying to balance it onto the truck hub. I've used this method for many years now and would recommend it if you can make it work for you. Much better than taking the risk of damaging your back.
You used a similar method with the wooden blocks being used to hold the wheel high enough to fit the wheel on the truck hub, so in the end you did find a way to get it on there.
And I do like the new wheels much better. No more factory girly-man wheels! LOL
I also like the GT3 RS style air vents in the front fenders.
Good Luck!
Good stuff.
Yeah I do it similar by clocking the wheel to match the hub's lug pattern position. I usually don't turn the hub, sometimes I can't if the parking brake is engaged or if the car in park on a FWD car. I just turn the wheel until the lug pattern matches the studs position on the hub.
Beautiful truck and wheels man.
The travel on that suspension is crazy. Imagine trying to lift a corner of that thing high enough to change a flat.
The result is sick ! Love it Matt ! 91 people watched and drive Prius .
Thanks brother!
Matt, i wish i was in FL i would help you. I have learn so much from you about detailing and i like my garage with that swisstrax on it. anytime i open my garage, washing my car outside and people walking on the path walk there jaw dropped looking inside my garage lol.
Man it completely changed the attitude of the truck.
If they were available 18x10 would be my preference. Regardless, the truck looks amazing !
I knew you were going to struggle putting those wheels back on when I saw you take them off! Lol.... Those are some sick wheels! It’s a good look from the stock wheels. Not sure of what ford was thinking about with the stock wheels. Great video!
Not obsessed enough. Method wheels, meeeh! Get Braid Winrace S or Fondmetal Evo Corse, this truck deserves it.
Love the Raptor content.
Matt, torque from the other side of the wheel so you are pushing down on the torque wrench using your body weight to the advantage.
The truck looks fantastic!
I don't like pushing down. It always feels better to me pulling. I like the control of it.
The Raptor looks great with those wheels!
You know what you where thinking; I can't wait to see these wheels on! lol
Keep us updated on the stainless bolts. That's interesting..Looks Great!
Looks perfect! It will ride perfect, tires will be as quiet as stock, it will be as fast as stock, will handle as good as stock and your mph will not need calibration. Exactly how I would do it (and have done it). So many people seem to be crazy about huge lifts and huge tires and most of those pickups ride like garbage, handle like garbage, go slower, and so on... and most never use the added ground clearance.
ROFL you can’t stand to side of wheel Matt stand directly in front lift with squat at gym. I know you were trying not to block camera. But don’t hurt ur back. Still priceless! Looks amazing.
They should have given you rings when you received your rims from tire rack.
Use your lift to just keep the rims off the ground.Maybe a quarter inch off of the ground.
Trust me most guys that spend a lot of money on there truck mods, dont mud it.
Agree - I normally just lift mine barely enough off the ground so you don't have to lift the tire much yourself.
Look at the suspension travel as he lifted the truck. I’m jelly.
Looks great wow amazing now get ADD bumpers with light bar and winch.
Not going to grill you about the way you were risking injuring yourself/scratching the wheels, it was definitely entertaining to watch. Next time you remove or re-install heavy wheels, use your legs while sitting on the ground to lift the wheels up and your arms to guide them onto the studs. Learned this the hard way attempting to lift 150lbs Hummer H1 run flat wheels.
dam that thing is gorgeous! wanna make mine look just like this but different color
I weigh 148 and I just sit on the ground and put my legs under the tire. Most of the time I just sit in a chair and put my foot under the tire.
Why are people bashing a guy for this video? He never claimed to be a expert mechanic or even a truck guy, I appreciate him not editing this video to fool the audience.
I knew what I was getting into releasing this one.
Truck looks awesome! I just put a set of methods on my 2018 Raptor, going to get those center caps 👍🏻
Thanks man. Those center caps are so simple, but look so much better.
Running the calculation of each tire size puts the new ones at barely 1/4 inch taller than the old tires. 34.36" for the old tires, 34.63" for the new ones, give or take, since there's always some variation from what the calculated tire diameter is.
That's about what I observed unscientifically.
Next time use your feet, set the wheels on your toes, while sitting on the stool, and use leverage of your feet to lift the wheels up to the lugs. I worked at discount tire while in college, that little tip will save your back.
Put the truck higher on the lift so you can bear-hug the tire and adjust your height with your legs. Less back strain and hunched twisting.
Look great. Make quite a difference to the truck. So cool having the ramp too!
Looks Great! What an improvement
I call you SMART for not wanting to work under it way up in the air!
I actually think that chrome lugs would have complimented the silver rivets around the outside rim.
Nay, the 70s would then be calling for the return of their chrome, lol. Had to get that in before Jeremy Clarkson did.
You don't need to remove the lugs in the star pattern as well, only when torquing them on.
Works better if you sit by the tire and use your legs/chins to lift and hold the tire up.
Looks great, I totally agree with not "going to the Shop " lol for about anything
That mounting moment oh God lol 😆
Good thing you're not trying to make a living changing tires, that was funny.
Fantastic looking wheels
For air tools, I know you were looking at Chicago Pneumatic, but you should also look into Astro Pneumatics. They have great products and great Customer Service, similar to Twin Busch. I have used and abused both and Astro seems to hold up better and usually cost is better as well
I'll check them out.
lower the vehicle would it make it easier to put on tires?
Its not rocket science is it, lol.
Yeah if the wheels need to go higher bring the truck lower...
Everybody talking about this and that and probably they haven't done this at all, don't have truck....!!!! It's tuff and really heavy..!!!!
I had to change a 265/65 R16 tire from a Toyota and I almost died trying lol
Lower scissor lifts to be able to mount tires, just barely, then raise back up to properly install. Or use hydraulic lift & lift tires to axle to mount the tires. It's so painful to watch you struggling. Hope this gives you some ideas of what can do to help you with things like this. Just something I've learned hard way as well, 😉 & damaging something while trying to install, sucks big time, as I've done, lol. L8R, A
8:36 I know how that feels Brother, always happening to me too lol
I will admit, as a truck guy, to laughing my face off at that first wheel only because I went through a similar experience yesterday when putting my 35x12.5 tires back on the truck that I take to shows and what not...and I didn't have mine up in the air as high as yours. Doesn't help that my wheels are "dual drilled" for two lug patterns so I had to fight that as well as the weight. They're not light, that's for sure!
I like the new look, even as someone who isn't a fan of black wheels. It works against the blue really well.
This is sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need one of those.
Truck looks amazing!!
The wheels and painted fenders look SO good. Looking forward to seeing the new bumpers on there. I've had Gtechniq C5 on the Methods on my 4runner for over a year and it's still holding up great. I didn't bother to top it with anything either.
Bumper just arrived today! Going to get it installed in the next week or 2.
Please get hub centric rings. The weight of the tire should rest on the hub NOT your lug bolts. Not having them will cause shaking at higher speeds and possibly break your lug bolts off. Looks great though!
I don't think they are necessary with these lug centric wheels. No issues on my Gen 1 at 90mph.
Obsessed Garage Maybe not. But what's another $10 to $20 for added structural support? Best to protect your investment. Better for the truck and wheels.....czcams.com/video/5Myk864Wiio/video.html
I don't think they fit with the center caps.
Hope the backs of the wheels weren't too scratched.... But it does look awesome!!
I was laughing watching you struggle with the wheels...i had the same problem with mine, so i used the 2x6 tripled it and lowered and raised the truck with my jack. heavy buggers. not sure if my wheels are heavier, i have beadlock capable wheels from ford, but i will never take them off again..hehehe...thanx for the vlog.
next steup.. Headlight Tint with Shadowshield Dyno PPF than Tail lights Tint with Vivid light smoke ;)
You really need hubcentric rings, wheels will Shane at higher speed. Whether you feel it or not is dependent on your sensitivity. The tire shop should’ve included them, that’s standard procedure. But they do look great!
Rings are largely unnecessary on these. I'm 56,000 miles into my NVs on the Gen 1 with no issues.
For all the money you spend on unneeded things, skimping on hubrings that are designed specifically to compensate for the difference in hub sizes. Think about it if they weren’t needed why do the engineers design our vehicles with them? And get some gloves bro, will save you hands.
Have been through 5 different cars with at least 10 sets of aftermarket wheels and 80,000 miles or so between all of them. No hubcenttric rings, no problem. They are simply for people who don't know how to torque down a wheel in the proper pattern.
The center caps are hubcentric
Not a ford fan but that is one sweet truck
Why didn't you just lower the truck to the hight of the wheel and just slide the wheel onto the lug studs?
Did you put the truck into the tpms training mode forst? If not you didn't program the new sensors. The reason you didn't have a light is most likely because you have the old wheels sitting next to the truck still.
I like hiw the fender flares color matches the body of the raptor
Electric imapcs and wrenches are much better than pneumatic ones now a days. I think milwaukee needs to come out with a DA polisher that runs on the new 18v 12ah battery
in what way are they better? That Milwaukee was super slow loosening those lug nuts. My Ingersoll-Rand pneumatic would zip it off in about 1-2 seconds per lug.
I love this video. Thumbs up!!
dang that's going to be a chore, replacing 96 zinc bolts with SS ones.
Yep...
I got method for ya ! Learn that from military service! Sit down and use your legs in between wheel than lift it up using your leg power baby!
Can you do a 'restoration series. A nasty sunfaded, swirled paint, aesthetically disgusting car and restore it to your general standards?
If you lowered it a little you could put the truck tyre on your toe and wedge it against the hub like that bud, i feel for you though, theyre heavy
nice wheels, did youhave any rubbing on full lock that required trimming of plastic? Any rubbing in rear?
No rubbing with this setup.
Looks good
Those tpms would have synced when you started driving
You can tell that the fender flares are not an exact match in color to the rest of the truck
How could you possibly tell that from watching a video?
Looks great !
giant wheels for a giant truck!
Looks great.
So much better!
Sit down and use for feet to help balance and lift the tire .
Have you experienced any rubbing with this 325 R18 Method/KO2 combination on the Gen 1? Is it necessary to change your perch level?
Was there ever any rubbing with the stock setup and the new wheels/tires?
Only lift the truck just as high as you need to! Only making it hard for yourself taking it up as high as that.
Have you ever changed a wheel before?
