"I could wrack my brain, trying to explain, where it is I think we're heading" ... Amen, brother 😎
I want to be 18 again with all the great music . I bought this album and the Bumpers album from the record shop for next to nowt and i still play them.
Greatest song in the entire realm of hippydom, peace man
Nice Enough To Eat was the first LP I bought. If I remember it cost 14.99 (shillings and pence for those not familiar with the pre-decimal era). It was a bit of a mishmash of styles but introduced me to some great bands such as Fairport Convenmtion, Jethro Tull, Free, King Crimson and of course Nick Drake. Island followed it up with a double sampler called Bumpers which was equally eclectic in its choice of artists. Those were the days, my friend...
Was quintessence also on this album with Gangai mai
It couldn't have been 14.99 - 99 pence is another 7 and a bit shillings - you must mean 14/11 - an old penny shy of 15 bob
I had this LP too, one of the first I bought. Introduced me to a number of bands I'd not heard of and probably helped shape my musical tastes.
Me too and Bumpers also Island records Samplers...also for the same price CBS Samplers Rock Machine I Love You and Rock Machine Turns You ON
You can get those samplers complete on CZcams i think
I love how they only play the chorus once, but it takes up a third of the song. Wonderful song.
More commercial then Zep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was on Nice Enough to Eat, a fine Island sampler sold for a few bob 100 years ago.
A sampler album that was full of great tunes!
@@bobgreen8142 Too right, one of the first samplers I bought. So many great tunes.... a classic album all on its own. Bought many samplers after that....
Thank you A F i t C I have been racking my tiny brain trying to remember the title.
😎
Brilliant, I once had it, I haven't now, but will never forget the lovely feelings that it gave me and my Dad, and will always.
Fantastic. I used to put on the 'nice enough to eat' album and lie back and stare at the ceiling... this was always the high point if you got the timing just right for peaking.
Ohhhhhh Ahhhhhh Ohhhhhh my i want to go back in time.Makes me feel happy hippy, hazy, hang on HUNGRY? my youth was magical as were this band.
Me to
It was great having them around when I was in my teens. An occasional spot on RTE but little else. Never got to see them but saw Tir Na Nog several times when I crossed the pond. Horslips , Skid Row, Lizzy and Rory Gallagher were the order of the day. I vaguely remember a group called Orange Machine and gosh almost forgot Sweeneys Men.
i still use this saying, " strangely strange but oddly normal " , today 2021 ! :)
Me too ! I was lucky enough to see this band. They were weird and wonderful.
Hippy music. Exactly like the Incredible String Band. Very nice vibes.
They had the same manager/producer as the Incredible String Band
Exactly !!
strangely alike, but oddly not nearly as good
I heard this for the first time ever last week. I was like "Why the hell have I never heard of this band....it's just heavenly
:)
You must have been born in the wrong era 😊 this is my teenage years.
Amazing for me! For a few minutes I was about 7yrs old again hearing this on my big brothers record player! la la lala la laa la la la la laa....
A sincere thank you for the upload. Iconic song. Remember first hearing them at a concert in Trinity complete with harmonium and someone passing out sweets and that faint sweet smell of burning weed. The record, Kip of the Serenes? became a soundtrack to our lives for a time. Amazed to see that they are still performing. Pass on my humblest regards.
Ivan Pawle, I love you!!
Such a strange but absolutely timeless and beautiful song. Your upload is greatly appreciated!!
A strangely alluring and oddly haunting song, thanks for posting......DA.
Wow, heard this when I ws about 14, would have been 1979. My mates sister had a number of sampler albums, this one, "Bumpers", "New Age of Atlantic - I played em to death. Didint think I'd ever hear this again.Thx for posting - the wonders of the web !
It was Nice Enough to Eat ..Just checked
a oneiill thx , I must track it down!
oddly,I thought about this song today..then spent the evening listening to a radio documentay about Vivian Stanshall...strange ...I thoughtI recommend the Trembling Bellsczcams.com/video/rVIfjpuXBU0/video.html&lc=z13vgphivxagt5gma22kcdvb3lqghvlvg.1486854484031185
a oneiill Interviewed, and Stanshall once said "If somebody gave me all the money I've spent on beer - I'd probably spend it on beer"
i wish to go back to this time.wheres Dr who when you need him :) thanks for posting,
Only now am I checking this out, but I'm glad I did! Sweet, progressive and really good!
kip of the serenes----my first kiss! happy days
Very late 60s and hippie. I first encountered it on an Island records sampler called, 'Nice enough to Eat,' spelt out on the cover with biscuits. It harks back to a gentler time of endless summers and parties and no material concerns.
The greatest song Donovan never recorded.
🤣
My eternal mitigation, ' must be just my sense of timing '.
On the Track...CFZ!!! Great music and so happy that I was turned on to this many moons ago!!!
thanx 4 uploading this forgotten part of my strange old memory bank ! glad 2 hear it again
I missed this band first time around. Then their albums became super rare and super expensive. I caught up with them now in 2012 - hurrah for the PC.
Never too late to get on a bandwagon.
Thanks for uploading.
Drowning in Nostalgia. Ta for posting this gem from a happier time.
The recorder player got the chops!
There y' go!
this is EPIC! haven't enjoyed music so much since listening to The Incredible String Band!
A favourite since I first heard it in ca 1969! And yes, there are similarities to the Incredible String Band - think they even collaborated at some point.
Thanks for uploading!
Used to catch their Sunday sessions in slatterys of capel st.in summer of 69.essential stuff.
seen this band &bought this record many years ago still very good
nice work,thanks 4 posting.
I had their LP 1971
Never heard of this band until 2019 when Rose Simpson (ISB) mentioned them in her online chats. Zeitgeist music
Lovely stuff.
Ah Nice Enough to Eat, the best of its genre along with The Rock Machine Turns You On.
me too, love that compilation.
Nice Enough to Eat, what a great budget price compilation LP that was (for the post decimalites, long player) 14s = 70p 15s = 75p. by hush me on...
Pure and simply this is....stoned music. You who have experienced this whilst u'mm ahh away will get it. Know it
nice track, takes you back to those times. saw them in 07, 36 years after first time.
VERY WELL DONE,i thank you.
This was on the "Nice enough to eat" Sampler as said below "Such a strange but absolutely timeless and beautiful song"
WONDERFUL
i love this song :)
Takes me back :)
The past seems such a safe place to be, however, I seldom go there without wishing I had never let it influence me....
Although l don't agree with the sentiment, this is a memorable quote which l'm glad l read.
Great album
Obviously knicking The Incredible String Band
"My name is Jon Downes, and welcome to another installment of ON THE TRACK..."
@curtisrunstedler I'm glad you enjoyed the song! Thanks for the comment...Peace!
@stepenwolf7 Excellent sums it up rather well! You're welcome, glad you enjoy them...
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@GiftDWF No trouble at all! You have excellent taste, thank you for the comment.
Peace!
hmmmm.....very strange indeed! cosmic in a down-to-earth stylee! folky & light yet it operates on another deeper plane.........................yes very very strange......?
👍❤️
When everyone was skinny. And, smiling.
Except Bob Hite, Leslie West or Mama Cass.
Mine too!
If you dont get it, seek medical advice from your local Doctor
No, you can't get advice from just any doctor, only advice from Dr. Strangely Strange will do. It's one of those endless circular conundrums that can only be sparked by a Dr. Strangely Strange song.
They had the best drugs.
excellent! any sign anywhere of any film of the band - reunion shows would eb good but is there any original motherlode??
I miss flute in songs
authentic 'bardcore'! (compared to all the MIDI stuff circulating around, at least! 😆)
@bramblechops I believe it was called "Nice enough to Eat"
Where is this Calendar label from? New Zealand? The UK press was on the pink eye Island label
This album is good but I'm not sure their other work is any good .
@jocatale Dans les paroles immortelles de "la Dude»...«Ouais, eh bien, vous le savez, c'est juste, comme, votre avis, l'homme». La paix!
G g g great
Closer to the proper speed
Very String Band-esque. I can't tell if it's better or not.
to me it could be one of their own!
Please, who played the recorder on this? It would be nice to know. Thank you very much in advance!
@TheWindowBeside Ha-ha! That must be the case...
Anyone enlighten me please as to the name of a compilation album they were on in the early 70's i remember it included Blodwyn pig, spooky tooth , quintessence etc ?
nice enough to eat ...and ,,bumpers
@LowStackTom Yeah...that person took full advantage of me being a liberal and believing that everyone is entitled to their own thoughts. He's wrong in his thoughts, but they are his, so he can have them and post them. I'm glad you asked what he said, maybe by posting the translation people will stand up in defense for this wonderful and very talented band. Peace!
Sounds like Incredible String Band for less cool people.
***** the band has commited that the incredible string band was an influence
DeadVoltage1 and they were friends.
Chris Marsh Good to know, as Ivan once stated in an interview, it seem the whole Dublin folk scene back then didn't have much rivalry they were all friends and got ideas of each other, seem to good to be true.
DeadVoltage1 Robin still talks fondly of Ivan. I think they shared a place for a while. :-)
@@schragemusik THey did. I believe Ivan appeared on one of their albums, but I could be wrong
@musicallihearismusic: if you can't tell the difference between a flute and a recorder, perhaps you ought to think about criticising something other than music.
now i'm scared
True! But let's also support those amazing weirdos by buing their records or downloads, otherwise they won't be able to continue supplying us with their wonderful music!
@stylofone I didnt hear the documentary, and I may be wrong, but I suspect it was a revisionist slightly satirical by post this that and everything channel ,4 nme commentators who like to label and denigrate , ie " prog " which has become the put down term of choice. still, its better to have this music heard again on more mainstream media.
@LowStackTom Here's what I said...
In the immortal words of The Dude... "Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man." Peace!
(If you're not familiar with 'The Dude' he's a character that Jeff Bridges portrays in "The Big Lebowski")
I think this was also on Nice eneough to eat. Sorry to me this is crap....
Strangely strange but ugly normal.
populierendreef Yes it was, what a great album that was
+SuperAgeofaquarius
Yes, great album and only cost me 14/6 in old money
I still have the vinyl
Ken Willingale
At that time i paid 4 euro (9 guilders) ...there was an absolutely great song on it from Heavy Jelly.!!!!!!!! What a song....the last song on the second side. Here also on YT ,,but a lousy sound. Pitty....
too much folk for me, i thought this would be you know.. strange! nah
a terrible incredible string band trubute band --- an insult to ISB
i don't see anything terrible about this song?
@LowStackTom Here's what he said...
I was born in 1943 the period hippie, I know well. I find this song very ugly and extraordinarily AMATEUR. The singer has a voice atrocious and completely, it seems a kid 20.La ascent of the votes in screaming with this pace of spoons excruciating is downright unbearable. The "balance" is bad, the flute very, very amateur also. I am amazed that a product as pressure has been able exit on the market!
Have you often thought of the youngest daughter?
kip of the serenes----my first kiss! happy days.
