- Filmmaker David Lynch builds a building. Here he explores with architect Vince Dyer how to approach the design and construction process of creating a Vedic Bungalow using Maharishi Sthapatya Veda Architecture in accord with Natural Law. The Vedas are the original scriptures of Hindu teachings, and contain spiritual knowledge encompassing all aspects of our life. "Veda" means wisdom.
There are many "rules" to follow in designing a proper Sthapatya structure. Such as the center of the space should be open, and windows should be of a certain size. David's greatest challenge is to blend and balance his artistic sense and ideas of what he sees in his mind's eye, and at the same time obey all the rules.
David calls himself "a frustrated builder. A self-described "Eagle Scout from Missoula, Montana", He began to draw and paint at the age of fifteen. His first film "Six Men Getting Sick" was conceived as "paintings that moved", and to a large extent to this day, the worlds he creates are seamless painting-like images that create the strong sense of mood and emotion that you can feel in all his pictures moving or otherwise. His work is genuine and unpretentious both in the stories he chooses to tell, and the feelings they generate whether he's directing, painting, photographing, composing, furniture-building or any other passionate pursuits.
One thing's for sure, whatever he comes up with, David's design has the potential to make a meaningful difference in places people can live.
I can't get enough of David Lynch interviews. haha.
his office is so RAW!
"I like to think about the outside too".

LOL
This was over 13 years ago… video cams were not like they are now modern boy
@@adamsapple7193 Yeah! Everyone knows that prior to 13 years ago, they couldn't figure out aspect ratios, so all video and film media was vertically stretched, just like this video.
David the great man. Thank you.
I LOVE YOU!!!
So good.
David lynch my inspiration for Movie making one hell genius
Best ending!
Brilliant
What you really want, is the healing.
Where can i watch the full documentary?i can not find it anywhere not even on david lynch foundation tv
To be precise its called Vastu, before building a bunglow, Hindus always see Vastu Shastra and build according to it.. its pretty normal in India almost every architect knws it
I love David Lynch so much but given his smoking habit I think it may be more ashtray than ashram
I love that he smokes. He reminds me of my Dad a little cigarettes coffee building things philosophically pondering all the while. Not many like that so I usually just do without Father figures.
This starts off like an episode of Mister Rogers Neighborhood and then they go Vedic and lots of smoke appears
Are there any updates to this building project?
would love to know too
This is the house.
Bird houses are preferred when the door faces east, at least in North America. Scientists observe that the nest is most successful when the door is facing north east, and by quite a substantial margin - but apparently there's some extra comfort in the entry facing east I gather, for the parent birds. I prefer south facing main entry, where practical.
Why do you prefer a south facing main entry?
@@agesflow6815 In the northern hemisphere - and especially as latitude increases - the south facing side gets more sunlight. Although that's nice warmth, the extra illumination may be a safety issue for little critters - not so much of a concern for eagles..
Me too CheddarBob
Do you still want to do it? - No. :)
Is it done? The house is done?
No
It’s still a dream.
The Kalash resembles bacterium flagellum.
This resolution is makes harder to watch this film on telephone.
