Yes hose link is a great idea. Many of the brass connectors still use plastic internal lugs.
Just buy hoselink hose connection, never burst off again.
Personally I prefer the crimped fitting that was cut off the hose - they will not blow off the hose under pressure, which even brass after market fittings will do. Just be sure to use a good quality tap adaptor.
I did that to my hoses n the plastic fittings were better than the brass ones. The brass ones leaked.

Yes, when is use, use the food grade hose.
Been drinking water from garden hoses for over 50 years and it hasn't affected me yet.
