Haunting Ground, known in Japan as Demento (デ メ ン ト) and that could be translated into Spanish as Tierra de Tormentos, is a video game of the Survival Horror genre in third person, developed by the Capcom Production Studio and published by Capcom for the console of PS2 video games in 2005. The game shares many similarities with Clock Tower 3, not only because it features a female character as the protagonist, but also because it is characterized by having a specific enemy that must be avoided for a period while they are solved and deciphered puzzles and riddles until the player is given a chance to confront him. This is why the game is considered a spiritual successor to the Clock Tower series.
The sexual objectification of the protagonist, Fiona Belli, was singled out by some critics as one of the best elements of the game. They found that by illustrating her as an object of desire, the game makes Fiona, and thus the player, feel more fragile and in danger, creating a more haunting atmosphere in the game. The fluctuating degree of the player's control over Fiona has made Haunting Ground a key subject in the study of avatars and their relationship with players in video games.

Fiona Belli: The 18-year-old protagonist, her name is Italian and she speaks English with a British accent in the game. A very beautiful young woman, with an unrivaled appeal and the only human source of Azoth that everyone covets. She just finished college. Although not very athletic, she makes up for it with her good improvisation skills. She rarely shows her emotions and appears to be more mature than would be expected of someone her age. He shows considerable concern for animals and dislikes mistreatment of them. Not much is known about Fiona's history, except that she is the heir to a large estate from her father Ugo.
Hewie: He's a 4-year-old German Shepherd (white shepard). Extremely curious and clever, able to understand Fiona's orders. Hewie is attracted to Fiona after she saves him from a cruel capture in the early stages of the game, from which he had been wounded by barbed wire. Hewie is very loyal, provides reassurance and encouragement. It is Fiona's only hope of getting out of the castle alive.
Weaknesses: The ogre gardener of the castle and in charge of the maintenance. After seeing Fiona walking through the castle, he begins to chase her. A creature with a very low IQ. Its origins are not entirely clear, but it is possible that it is one more of Lorenzo Belli's failed creations. Apparently, despite everything, Fiona sees her as a child in the body of a giant and ends up feeling sorry for her.
Daniella: The castle maiden. She cooks and does housework around the castle. She appears to be in her early 20s and is imposingly beautiful, but her movements are like those of a machine and her character baffles. It is revealed that she is a homunculus, an artificially created human being, and that her creator had not given her Azoth (spiritual energy that every human has, essential to live and feel) so she is not complete.
Riccardo: The guardian of the castle. A tremendously cold and calculating man, and with the appearance of a monk. He appears to be the person in charge of the castle judging from his relationship with Debilitas and Daniella, but in reality he is another servant. Riccardo seeks Fiona's Azoth because he needs it to resurrect. In the forest he reveals the truth to Fiona; Lorenzo created two twin clones: Ugo Belli and Riccardo Belli. Riccardo was created from the transmutation of his brother's energy, which is why he does not possess Azoth. It was he who caused the crash and killed his brother, who had been left dying, and failed to obtain the Azoth from Ugo, but realized that Fiona, Ugo's daughter, had inherited that characteristic from her father. He is apparently the ex-owner of Hewie, whom he came out hating apparently because the dog messed up his plans. Unlike the other pursuers, he does not appear to have intentions to kill Fiona, as he hits or slaps her instead. However, if Fiona gets too close to her during a chase, she can get carried away and shoots to kill with her gun.
Aureolus Lorenzo Belli: He needs the Azoth to achieve immortality, and he was helping Fiona, his last living relative, so that she could get closer to him. He was a great alchemist, but his greed led him to make more and more perfect creations and lose his Azoth as he did so, in addition to aging rapidly.
