    This is so great, thanks for the video. Love the background music, could listen to this for hours. I do mostly wood burning (pyrography) art, but I'd really love to give this a try, I want to make a coffee table out of a partially milled log and dig out a good section of the surface to make it look like a little koi pond. This is very inspiring, thanks again for taking the time to make this ;-)

    Just a tip for anyone who wants to try this> use a UV resin. I did two of these, both were octopus, with regular resin and they came out excellent but the time required for the resin to setup was a pain and the hardner will go bad after awhile if not used (turns an amber color). I haven’t tried the UV resin except on an iPhone screen but that resin sets up instantly once the UV light is applied.

    Thanks so much for sharing the finer details of your awe-inspiring art, the apparently simple steps you explain are deceptive as having the ability to know what these might be is what differentiates an artist from the rest of us, and its big of you indeed to let us see - one question, just how thin is a "thin layer of resin'? Obviously it's the depth of a goldfish (or whatever) divided by the number of layers, so in this instance would that be something like @20mm divided by 6 = a layer of 3-4mm thick?

    • @chierchiagerardo
      @chierchiagerardo  Před 7 lety +1

      it is around 2 mm let's say a toothpick roundness ... in water or resin the goldfish go to be flat so you do not really need to make those 20mm ...also because much of the bottom part of goldfish is under and you don't really see it so ...4 layers of 2mm each and you get the 3d goldfish . if we talk about much bigger goldfish well you need more layers.

  • @karinapalm6419
    @karinapalm6419 Před 8 lety +2

    Hi Gerardo. How do you know, how many layers you'll need to paint a fish? Love your art. :) Do you have any experience with a product called ecopoxy? Would that do the job as well as the resin you use? I think the Ecopoxy isn't that poison to you and the environment. Best regards from Karina.

    • @chierchiagerardo
      @chierchiagerardo  Před 8 lety +1

      +Cherry Ho yes the resins should be dry and every layer you have to wait at least overnight before paint . yes it takes time some time also weeks . if you use resins once you will understand why you can not paint in a liquid resins .

    • @chierchiagerardo
      @chierchiagerardo  Před 7 lety +2

      I use Epoxy resin any clear epoxy resin will do... and yes should be acrylic , because oil take very long to dry ... but I never try oil you maybe can try it ... it is imperative that the colour are complete dry before you pour your resins....

    @sofiakaos5278 Před 6 lety

    Awsome videos i found them because i have this crazy idea but no idea how to acomplish it in which this amazing art style may be my solution... would this still work for a much latgerr size area outdoors inside the balcony floor and where people will step on it from time to time? Im thinking i could do the fish and plants in those small containers and then take it out and just put it on the place i wanted them to be and just fill the rest of that huge area with resin?

    • @chierchiagerardo
      @chierchiagerardo  Před 6 lety

      you can ! keep in mind resin it is very expensive ... and to cover big area it cost money. second it is not good for out door ... in door OK also if they walk on it . but with time get bad ! and more important , resins it is like water so must be hold by something if not will spread all around ... before take big project I think you should talk with whom will sell you the resins... if you never used resin ... you can make big mess ... and it is also a dangerous medium to use because it is flammable ,,, and some resins are also toxic.

    • @sofiakaos5278
      @sofiakaos5278 Před 6 lety

      Indeed the biggest i could buy 700g or so was 50Eur it is gona be hell expensive... but something just marvelous to walk on inside my garden in the balcony... it can be closed so no rain will enter or resin will get out and i researched a bit on it as well know about the dangers and how it will not be clear forever.... you say ok but in time is bad for stepping on it? Will it crack? D: maybe theres a coat of some kind i could use on top to protect it? My balcony has this step down like 5cm high and making it even with the entrance would be a huge bonus

    • @chierchiagerardo
      @chierchiagerardo  Před 6 lety

      resin with climate change works in different ways ... then if it is very hot the resin expands, but if it is very cold it shrink ... especially if your balcony has shiny tiles ??? so it could break with time ... but the main problem remains ... how and with what do you do the perimeter of the balcony where you should put the resin ???? remember it is like to pour water ..
      if you can solve these problems well ... you can protect the surface with the Plexiglas. and when it looks bad you change it.

    • @sofiakaos5278
      @sofiakaos5278 Před 6 lety

      Its made of stone or rock of some kind so very cold and no shiny tiles, wont get much heat from direct sun prob all my plants are more low sun... the perimeter is like alrdy made basicly its a big rectangle hole in the ground. Maybe it would look nice just one last question i rly dont want to be a bother xD resin its rly the only material for a water like finish for this isnt it?

    • @chierchiagerardo
      @chierchiagerardo  Před 6 lety

      if so ... it can be done ! yes resin is the only medium look like water . I don t know of any other material
